My discovery - The Most Flexible creature (slot)
I don't know if anyone noticed it, BUT I've found out, that the most flexible creature is the Yeti (CREATURE_SNOW_APE ). Maybe it's not worth creating a new topic for that, but I wanted to share this info with all moders, because it's useful.
Now there are two reasons why this creature is the most flexible:
1.It hasn't been used in the game so you can make it look like you want.(I mean using Yeti's slot)
2.The main thing what I've found out, is that using Yeti's slot you can use any creature's animset and it's compatible with any look of it. ( what I mean is that you can make "Yeti" look like i.e. Angel and use the Devil's animset for it). It doesn't mean that it'll look perfect in that way, but this will let moders to create more complex/new creatures if they'll find good look and animset to use.
Thanks for attention. I hope you understood what I meant.

Well yeah, that's pretty old news. The NCF was created so we wouldn't have to overwrite the Snow Ape slot when adding new units.

Yes, I know that. But I (and I think someone else too) don't use NCF. And I think ANY animset does not work with ANY creature. I mean..like in GotP or TOK (don't remember in which of projects) people where creating Troglodyte using Imp with with Hunter's animset, but it looked strange. Imp just didn't work with other animsets. But using Yeti's slot it would have worked with ANY animset, so it would have been possible to create better looking Troglodyte. It's just an example. I'm not from GB or USA, to clearly explain what I mean.

That's right, but you can add whatever animsets you like to creatures using NCF as well (you did know that right?). It's a matter of choice: use the Snow Ape slot and add one new unit, or use the NCF and add hundreds. Tough decision

Actually I din't know that, but anyway, NCF is too complex for some people, including me. I.e. it's easier for me to use Yeti's slot than NCF. QSII won't use NCF, but it will use Yeti's slot. In this case the patch will be compatible with everyone's TotE, and there will be no need for people to download any additional things and run other .exe. This topic is for those who don't use NCF.

Except for one thing - if somebody downloads another mod replacing the Snow Ape and installs yours as well, there will be a conflict between files which makes one or both mods unplayable. That doesn't happen with the NCF.

It's not a topic about capabilities.

Huh? I'm not trying to advertise the NCF, I'm just pointing out that the Snow Ape method is old and obsolete. There's no need for it anymore. Heck, I was able to make a mod with NCF. You're far better at modding than me, BJ, so don't say you can't do the same.

I'm also not saying that I found something new about using Ape's slot, I just found that it can use any look and any animset at the same time.
The thing about NCF is , that if you want full control and functionality of it, you must download about 6 files, and use instructions to make them work well, AND you must request for a slot before making a creature. But now all slots are taken (if I'm good informed), so you must wait for extended NCF to start making your creature, if you don't want to remake it later. That's what makes me confused about it and that's why it pushes me away from using it.

Two files - an .exe for the game and another for the Editor. All you have to do is extract them into your TotE folder and the new .exes will be available.
If you were, hypothetically, to use a new .exe for your mod, you could make it so that (like the NCF) it supports hundreds of creatures without needing to replace any Snow Apes. The new mod wouldn't be compatible with the NCF mod but then again it wouldn't be the original game so that's not a problem.
(The only reason people reserve NCF slots is so that all NCF mods are compatible and no two creatures use the same slot.)

But if you wanna be able to put your creature in the map, you must make a .pak file with your mod and put it in data folder. Also you must download a pack with all free slots. BUT WHATEVER...This topic is not about NCF.

We used "secret" not added neutral creatures slots in HoF (They were similar fo the Yety ).
But actually posting this is very nice for new modders

That's because of the most common bone names used in the Yeti's skeleton. A Slot can't just be flexible.

Oh..I didn't know that, sorry. I just read or heard something like that.
New modders could surely use this info, thanx.
@Radar
I have in mind the other meaning of flexibility.

Sorry, could someone please clarify for me why the Yeti is so good? I'm confuzled ...
Edit: going back off topic, editing a creature for the NCF shouldn't be much harder than using the snowape - sf said that you just need to make a creature replace the snowape, then just change the creature ID references and maybe one or two other things, and you're there... not that I would know, really. And, the NCF hasn't run out of slots, to the best of my knowledge (?).
