Too Much Spam....
Ok, I am speaking as rogue the moderator right now.
Stop the spam immediately. Right now. Do not even reply to this message with more spam, just stop doing it. Now.
If it does not cease immediately, I will delete posts and/or lock threads that are contributing nothing to anything.
I'm not talking about off-topic postings, I'm talking about postings that aren't on any topic at all and just seem to exist for the purpose of exercising your fingers.
Any post on the board above this one better be talking about something... anything at all, I don't care, but if I see any spam above this message, I will begin locking, deleting, and penalizing.

About time someone started moderating on this forum. I don't mind the odd 'useless' thread here and there, but lately, seems like people are just cooking up threads about anything they please. Makes me think, gee wierd tavern, don't see much tale swapping and ale drinking!
I've not yet seen Rogue the moderator, but I'm glad that he does have this side to him. I know how hard it is to moderate a topicless tavern, but like I've been saying recently, I've been seeing a lot of 'intellectual' posts going on lately. Come on guys, there are times when IM is there for you to use, so use it. I just think you all like to have the last say (did I say that?!) and don't know when enuffzenuff.

There are also some other things to look in...
But I'm maybe wrong person to talk about them.
But let me say that whether "flamewar" thread still exist or not...
There should be some penalties from offensive posts.
Haven't seen them for a while and people think they can get away from anything.
So do your jobs.
Rogue used to be good at it.
And RMS stop playing around.
Not that I care...just reminder.

Well, I can contribute to the cause. If I see anyone spamming again *looks at 4-5 people and purses lips* I promise I will start such a flamewar that you will think of SHa's thread as peaceful and kind.
You know what irritates me, boys and girls? "I don't care about the post counts and yellow stars!!" Really? Don't you? WHy do you then keep on posting gibberish? Maybe because it's fun. Yeah, if you title says you're a bloody hero, then you MIGHT as well be, so why keep the spamming down? Spam, friends! This will only prove how interesting and funny and cute you are. And how much you don't really care for the stars you get.

Bravo Milena
My sentiments exactly. I guess the only way for some people to prove that they're not here for yellow stars or red stars is for them to still remain as posters once they've got their 5 stars.
But let this not turn into another star thread lol. I just honestly don't like people who have 17-reply discussions with other people in which the language goes like this:
Professor X: That's the idea Wolverine
Wolverine: Uh Huh
Professor X: I want you to kill Sabretooth
Wolverine: What for?
Professor X: Because he sucks
Wolverine: Yeah
Professor X: We think alike
Wolverine: We sure do
Professor X: What did you have for dinner
Wolverine: A furball
Professor X: Any fleas?
Wolverine: I like fleas...
Professor X: Crunchy aren't they?
And so on and so on!
I hate this sort of stuff. NOT funny, NOT interesting and as I like to say this garbage is SKIP material.
If you post like this then I'm not going to read you. Even if you say something worth 50 quality points, the chances are I'll be so fed up with you that I'll just go straight past your genius and read one of Ichons posts.
Please at least TRY to be interesting when you hit that Reply button okay?

Interesting how all of your are beating a dead horse by saying the exact same thing with a little bit of extra window dressing. We get the idea that dumb posters are not welcome in Rogue's yard. Now would you STOP SPAMMING AN ANTISPAM THREAD!!! *hmph*

I say that discussions that are less that 30 words between people and go on for an extended period of time and are in such a manner as to be considered 'converation' material, well then these people should be either reprimanded, have their posts deleted or simply penalized. Of course something like this is going to have a hard knock on the new people who are coming all the time, but maybe it could be included in the FAQ?

I'd say if we could have a few threads of discussions with less than 30 words in each post and very few one-liners in all the other threads I'd be much more happy.
A few posts in a row with less than 30 words have a tendency to kill even the best of threads.
Yesterday, I first saw Murphy being the last poster in the top 15 threads, then Hexa in the last 20 or so threads, then Murphy in the top 25 threads. Then rogue finally acted to put a stop to the madness.
Basically, any thread which neither Hexa nor Murphy was interested in dropped to the second half of page 2 on the Tavern. Most of the threads they were interested in received 1-3 spam posts, some of them even more. For some threads this has the effect of throwing the thread hopelessly off-topic, while others simply become less pleasureable to read.
If anyone else replied to the threads, then there was immediately a reply to it and the rest of the forum just saw the author of the spam post on the forum page and not of the previous poster who may just have posted something on-topic.
If Hexa and Murphy had been posting in 2-3 threads (say like Word Association Game or Kuma's new Tavern and the like) instead I wouldn't have minded.
That said I believe there's no real meaning in continuing the discussion. New members have not done this type of postings at all. It's experienced posters who have done it. The FAQ already contains anti-spam rules.
Murphy: You don't need to worry about getting to be among the top 10 posters. Even if you post only about 10 posts per day, you'll likely be there before the end of the month. Ozzy is not posting much these days, and Inky is banned. As for getting back the qp, start posting like you used to do. You were not always quipping one-liners. Post less and put some thoughts in your posts and the qp will replenish and you'll still get to be among the top 10 posters.
To those who spammed the Tavern: To help the moderators clean the mess you've created... I'd propose you delete the senseless messages you posted to the threads. I'd assume some posts could remain but most of yesterday's harvest filled no purpose.
See it this way: the moderators won't be happy to go through the forum to delete your bad posts. If you offer to do it yourself, you at least show some repentance. (And Hexa and Murphy if you co-ordinate your efforts between yourselves and the moderators, you may just be able to bring some of the threads back on track again.)
You don't cure this by adding posts or arguing over spamming on the Forum. Basically, you do it by informing the moderators and perpertrators of what they're doing, and preferrably through IM, or you may become a spammer yourself. The FAQ and code of conducts already covers nonsense messages, and the penalty they will occur. (Read the FAQ or rogue's post. They say the same thing.)

Just a little comment on your last post.
First of all I was and am the one that began to act against spamming .. as you could have seen if you would read up on some more threads… I was also the one that made Murphy come out and say why he was spamming.
Furthermore, I had contact with our mods about this stuff (check with rogue and RMS if your little doubtful mind doesn’t believe me).
The reason I spammed was to get attention to this problem as I explained in my thread “spamming” which rogue deleted because he made his own…
[thanks rogue now people can’t see why I was following Murphy around ….. they are now thinking I’m a spammer too .. and I was only trying to make a point]
Well Djive thanks for thinking for me…. It would be better if you spend your times looking into things before you go blabbering your thoughts ..OK
So..I’ll await your excuse.. and I’m not planning to wait long!
PS: why the **** do you think Murphy got a -1qp and I didn't...didn't that make you wonder just a little.. or were you to self-absorbed

1. You do get an honorable mention for acting against spam. (I don't doubt that you told RMS and rogue, an extra plus for that.)
2. You also get a dishonorable one for spamming the board yourself. Your postings in response to the spam made the problem worse, because it caused Murphy to reply to all the threads you had replied to when following him. (If you had just created/revived an anti-spam thread and pointed out Murphy's behaviour I believe the result had been the same.)
IMO the mods made the right judgement in who should get the penalty (and anyway I'm happy to leave this to the mods), all I suggested for you was that you cleaned up the messages you made when following Murphy around.
You've done the anti-spam effort, now it's time to tidy up after yourself. I'm perfectly clear that you just reacted to spam, and my message wasn't meant to be read in any other way. Fact remains, however, that you posted 20+ meaningless messages to the forum.
The morale of what I'm saying: Don't respond to spam. You'll become a spammer yourself.
Anyway, Hexa I'm sorry if my reply made you seem to be the main culprit, you weren't. Rereading my post I can see that I should have made that clearer. I'm sorry.

just me 2 cents...
...the following is the last of a series of IMs between Hexa and me... after some thought, we decided I should post that...
Quote: ...RMS was getting on my nerves... (Romana and I agreed on that ) he is a freaking Mod!!!! the last thing he should do is spamming...
...as for Murphy, I guess he wants to join the supremes... geez!!! ...even i wanted to become a Supreme before the wedding, but I tried to make posts with a certain reason of existense... if I didn't do that, I would have over 2000 posts right now...
...I can realte to your hunt... but it seems that people only see the spam posts...

From IceDragon's New Universe Dictionary:
for Grythandril.
Spam (n):
1) Nearly inedible but cheap tinned meat by-products, a staple of the "trailer trash" community.
2) Unwanted email, often advertising-related.
3) Message board posts that are pointless, short, disrespectful, written without thought, and/or off-topic. These are the messages that take up space without saying anything useful, interesting, informative, or in request of valid information. They are an excellent conversation STOPPER and have the potential to turn a good thread (messageboard conversation) into mindless small talk.

Previously, being "rogue the moderator" involved deleting doubleposts (like when someone clicks submit twice) and censoring swears. This spam thing was slowly building over the past week or so, and I was about to snap. I had to do something.
I'm glad what I did seems appreciated overall.
Murphy: if you stop spamming, your posts will be taken more seriously and you'll be more likely to earn that quality point back. I really don't see what your point was and for all I know, you saying you had a point to make with your lyric post could just be a way of mocking hexa saying he had a point.
About Hexa: I'm glad he did what he did because it opened my eyes to two things: One - That the spam problem was out of hand, and two - that I was not the only person annoyed by this.
I am going to be deleting spam-like postings from many of the threads that are still salvagable as useful discussions. It would save me a lot of time if people deleted their own messages that they might feel are spam as they come across them.
But right now, I'm going to finish a game for a tournament I'm in.
