More Siege Weapons and different types (upgrades)
As i watch the only one shot from HOMM4 i've seen that the battlefield is larger - and more complex. We'll probably need more siege weapons, and NWC for sure are workin on them.
We'll need something to crush the walls, or just ladders to go up. Of course defenders can use fire and brimstone or swamp-soup to stop us!.
And... I found this interresting page about medieval weapons

Agreed.
But it may look funny for a behemoth to climb the ladder

right... Behemoth on ladder -
and if there is Play-By-Play or color commentator the game it will sound like
"...And now the Behemoth is taking along the boards, moving up trhough center and breaking the ladder just in front of the net.".... "what a mess"...
hehee... really stupid idea of me about the ladders

Ladder is good!... for the weaker creatures. Generally the behemoths are huge stalking powerful brutes. Unless castle walls were to be massively fortified to unseen of lengths, i see no reason why the behemoths couldnt simply climb the walls or smack em down. Same with other massive ones.

Yeah....
No ladders, u can't build a ladder 50 feet tall.
But behemots and other large units should be able to attack walls.

Yeah, not ladders needed, but powerfull creatures can destroy walls, just like cyclops did with their rocks, why not have creatures that destroy walls while they are close to it...

a new creature
since we r on the subject, I think that a wall creature would very cool, it would be a wall animated through magic, it blocks 2 hexs, has like 30 defence and no attack. upgraded ones would block 3 hexes and have more defence and 2 attack.

Ladders, lol! What about the snakes?
Hey, one thing I would like to see in Heroes 4 is the inclusion of a very important seige weapon.
The battering ram.
It could be a very slow moving object, say 2 hexes per turn, which would give the defenders plenty of time to rain arrows on it, but it's a very quick effective way for a player without ballista secondary to open up a way into the town...
And for that matter, let's have moats that actually prevent ALL non flying creatures from crossing. There could be potential for a bridge-type unit which would be used in seiges, to lay bridges across moats. What say you?

huh?
i don't think a moat should stop flying creatures because thats what bein a flyin creature is all about.. flyin over obstacles. right?

She ment non-flying units, behemoth.
I think these ideas suck except for the ram, only that it should be a war machine which will open the drawbridge at the beginning of a battle and shouldn't be present at the battle itself.

Battering Rams
If such a thing were to be included, all you would need would be the required gold to buy one and you'd have instant access to all castles, thereby negating the need for drawbridges at all. I think that the 'instant' opening of a drawbridge should be left to a spell or an artifact of some sort. There's not much point in having a seige weapon if it isn't actually needed during a battle. And besides, you'd need to give the defender a chance to destroy it before it reached the castle gates anyways.

i think the battering ram is a good idea but i think it needs more speed cuse all u need 2 do is kill it and u might not be able 2 get in the town. but this is only what i think. attila

I dont think ladders is a good idea considering that the one unit can represent 3000 they would have to wait along time to climb them. I like the idea of the battering ram though i also think that you should be able to buy attack towers these could act like a unit able to move to the walls and fire arrows at the enemy. When at the walls these could allow some troops to enter inside maybe only lvl 1 creatures. Heres another idea being able to have units on the battlements where they could have a good shots at the enemy and some protection from the walls as well.

More sieige engine ideas
Having ranged units on the battlements is a very good idea. They should have increased accuracy but in order to counter this, their defence skills should be reduced by one or two.
Attack towers are a little difficult to implement and they seem to be a little bit too much like ladders.
Why don't we have flaming catapults? People with expert artillery could have the option of attacking walls or trying a random shot actually INTO the castle with burning artillery. Any hex landed on could turn into a firewall hex and burn for three or four turns. It would certainly smoke out the defenders wouldn't it? Especially if the battle went for five or six rounds and the attacker had expert firewall spell...
Imagine the 3rd degree burns from a battle like that!

Actually, how about making the siege units work better than they already do. I find that the aiming of my catapult is terrible. (I aim for a tower or the drawbridge and it hits the walls until they're smashed... but when the computer attacks, it works and hits my places early on... go figure!)

more
In HoMM3, there are 4 slots for war machines which can only hold 1 of each. How about loading up all four slots with ballistas, catapults or tents.
Heroes with specialty of first aid are useless in battles but if they could hold 4 tents this may not be so bad.
Also imagine christian beefed up with 4 ballistas doing double damage for 8 shots. Very sweet.
4 catapult or 2 catapults and 2 ballistas for sieges.
And I think I should be able to use ballistas when defending my castle as well.

Battering Rams, Trepuchets and as well scorpions could be cool, but maybe it could destroy the game-play...HOMM games have always been creature fights...
Yeah, expert First aid is crab...

Garrisons............
I think you should be able to hide troops in the castle its self. This way they can't get hurt until it's taken down. Also archers should be able to garrison towers (making them immune to attacks other than catupult.
