wheather
(always sorry for my bad english)
What do you think about weather in the game?
For exemple rain or snow during combat? Of course on the weather depend the speed of heroes and creatures. In this case you can use better Logistic or Pathfin or Navigation...

Wheather
That's not a bad idea, friend! And there could be spells to create storms and such. One question though: Should you be able to see the rain or snow from the world map? I think so. It's logical.

What did you have in mind?.. Decreased moves in bad weather.. and increased? in good.. Actually that wouldn't change the game that much... everybody would get the same penalties..
Well.. of course looking at the enemy struggling his way towards your castle in a storm might aid you a little.. .Giving you time to mobilize troops.. But on the whole it doesn't give that much to the game itself... does it?
Think of wandering around in swamps during a rainstorm... Not a nice feeling.. I wouldn't want to do it.. . Slow enough as it is...

Weather affecting spells
Weather affecting spells could be a feasible idea after all.Since there will be supposedly 5 schools of magic that seem to counteract each other, there could be off-combat spells that are casted on friendly terrain as a measure to strengthen its defense.
A necropolis hero could possiby cast a death spell like say Shroud of Darkness to strengthen its undead troops in its capitol. This spell pays upkeep in the form of spell points per round. This could make invaders more likely to be unsuccessful in their seige.
Weather spells like storms that slows movement could be cast near friendly cities to stall for time while getting to the city in danger. It's a double-edged weapon. It's up to the player to make full use of itSurely, this makes spell-casting more fun.

great!
thats a great idea!!
there would be seasons and stuff and it will snow and rain...
and when it snows, u should be able to see on both battlefield and adventure map. it would add a lot to the game because there will be alot of stuff related to it(artifacts , spells, creatures...)

Tactical Aspect of Weather
Good ideas for weather effect and weather affecting spells.
I think weather also has some tactical impact.
Imagine:
During a very bad weather, storm and thunder, you sail towards enemy castle to attack it.....
Enemy grin as he thinks he got several days more to prepare for war.....
He calls for back-up from nearby castles....
You cast a spell called "Smile of the God of Wind" or "Serenity".....
You arrive the enemy castle just 1 day before his reinforecement........and VICTORY......

I dont think its needed in this game. If it is used id like to see it just being used to make the game look nicer (baldurs gate) If weathers added i think so will night and day have to be.

dry river beds
There could be dry river beds that can be crossed until it rains and then it becomes a river you cannot cross until it dries up. Also boats could travel down river until it's gone.

I agree with Arachnid, the game doesn't really need the weather aspect. It may create a bit confusion, slow down the game....things like that. The idea itself is great but...I'm afraid of losing the good, old, classic HoMM style I love.
Also, all the changes you are sudegesting will probably change the game quite a bit. If you don't think so, think about the weather effects on movement secondary skills, spells, and maybe even the building reasources?

Flood
a flood spell (causing floods)could be used to wipe out roads. and cause swamps (not my idea look ^ but to repair the road u can build in the castle a second kind of hero. A engineer or something (i really want engineers) that can replace roads build em where you want irragate deserts for better movement. or build garrasins and scout towers Well? what do you think?

weather
i agree with arachnid here, in that weather would be a very nice addition in terms of appearance, but would likely only complicate things if implememented in such a way as to change gameplay. weather spells are cool for combat, or maybe as a single day's length spell on the adventure map, but more than that would probably just mess things up.
day and night would be cool to see but i don't know how they could do it, since you might take minutes or hours on your turn.
seasons of the year make the most sense. leaves changing color and all that. the map, after all, is only a symbolic representation of what is there, and if you have to discern things through the muddled view of rain, snow, or fog, you could miss a lot. already so many things seem out of proportion to each other.
basically i'm all for weather if it doesn't mess things up. if nothing else, it would make the map more interesting. hurricanes at sea, at least. the sea maps are so lacking...but i don't want to mix threads. but they should wander around, of course.

I think weather would be a good idea, as well as night and day. Maybe there could be a skill that helped you through bad weather. Maybe at nightime your entire adventure map goes black exept around your heroes and castles. That would bring up being able to summon a sort of light that lit up that area for you at nightime whether you had a hero there or not.
