Well, it kind is strange to swap the bodies of two soldiers into five live prisoners. But maybe Isreali prisons are full, because of the thousands of what it calls security prisoners. Most of them are Palestinian however. Truth be told Israel can easily afford to exchange even for dead bodies. It is not like it is unorthodox even. In early 2004 more than 400 prisoners were released to Hezbollah in exchange for a reservist colonel and the bodies of three Israeli soldiers.

As for what it does to peace.. Nothing most likely. If this is any way to build trust, and work on your negotioational skills then maybe it has some merit. Then again many arab leaders see this as a victory for Hezbollah, and this group probably grows in power as a result.

Not sure I understand... Care to explain what made this deal so special that after this nothing can be accomplished?

Well, I haven't really been tuning in to the Israel-Hezbollah talks, and since this thread is named Price of Peace, I'd like to go off on a small tangent that's been bothering me for a while, related to war:

We, as humans, never really fight wars for peace. Look at most of the recent wars in history, and you'll notice that the main purpose behind them is money. Money for corporations or for interests benefited by the war. People who sell weapons make a killing (pun intended) off of war, so they never want it to stop.

So, the price of peace, in my opinion, is letting go of greed. As long as greed exists, war will always exist.

Thank you all for your attention.

I saw this on the news O.o

Why did you trade some ALIVE prisoners for DEAD bodies?
Its seem very strange to me ;P
But it seems like both sides were happy atleast

Still, I dont think you ever be able to make peace down there :S It seems distant now atleast.

And why would the price of peace be war? My country had peace for over 200 years. We didnt slaugther people for that -.-

The price of peace would mean the extinction of human beings.
Lets face it, every species become extinct.
Even us. Yes us!!

In reality no one wants change.
I mean a majority of the people who run the world like the Govt.
Look at some of the people who tried to make a change? They usually get assacinated for it.

As long as there is hate which is an emotion, then there will never be peace or change.

The price of peace = death.

I agree. We have to be the most self-destructive, cruel, sadistic, and egocentric race on the face of this Earth.

(Harsh? Yes. True? Definitely! )

Of course, that's not to say everyone is like that, because that isn't true.

@Doomforge: Well, you don't see most other animals killing out of greed. They kill out of necessity. Whether they do it to eat or to secure their territory, it ends up at the same place.

Would you prefer if I wrote...

We have to be the most compassionate, caring, and selfless race on the face of this Earth.

Like I said before, it isn't to say that there aren't people like that, but quite a few people (including quite a few in power) are the direct opposite of the optimistic statement I wrote above.

That is wrong. Animals can kill you or other animals for no "reasonable" reason. See an elephant on musth. Once he sees you, he will most likely trample you for no reason. Go an tell him animals don't kill for pleasure or because of rage. I somehow feel he won't listen Yes, he will kill you, not because you are a threat, not because he is hungry, but because he's on rage and he kills everything he wants.

Or the hippopotamus. That animal, although herbivorous, killed the most people in africa of all mammals, more than lions or any other predator. Because it's awfully aggresive. It kills for little reason.

And, as for your statement..

Look, you're trying to say that you kinda don't belong to your race or what by saying that crap? You are human. By saying we are blah blah blah you call that yourself, too. That's masochism, you know. Do you enjoy calling you and your family/friends (they are humans too, you know?) weird names? Selfish, cruel etc.. I would never call my parents that because it's not true and I'm tired of people indirectly insulting all people because they want to feel eco, emo or whatever.

Those stereotypes tire me. Please, cut it.

I want you green people not to be ridiculous. Your love for nature turns into some weird hatred towards your own kind.

I'd say 99% humans are like that. How many people do enjoy destroying their own world? Think about it. I don't know even a single one who does so.

Granted. I exaggerated, as I sometimes do. But, they don't kill because of greed, which was kinda the point I was trying to make.

I never said they enjoyed it. So, at least here, we agree.

And, the rest of the post I won't even comment on, because I want this thread to remain civil and because I dislike arguments.

(Not to mention, all we'll probably manage to do is get mad at each other for an undefined period of time. )

Mad? Huh? I'm not angry even a tiny bit. I'm just not a goody two shoe. Maybe my words seem harsh, but as long as I don't insult anybody, I think it's ok - just my style

One last thing to add, cause I feel I haven't convinced you : Imagine yourself as a director of a power plant. You give people that would otherwise become unemployed work, you give power to cities around so they don't have to live in the dark. Oh, and power for the PCs of eco people so they can write about how stupid and merciless and cruel you are on the internet You are a normal person, you like animals, nature. But some people can't get over what you do. They just don't understand the pollution your power plant brings is the price we pay for not living in the dark. Everything comes for a price. We can't do much about it. Not every country can afford a bunch of nuclear power plants so they no longer pollute the air. Mine can't for example - we have problems building ONE.

See? It's not that easy. Even those who are the major "pollutors" of this world don't necessarily have to be evil bureaucrats who dump radioactive wastes to the nearby forest because it saves them a couple bucks. Saying such things about our poor race is just oversimplifying Most people are not cruel and not heartless. The vast majority, I'd say.

And, as for the original topic: I am afraid peace in your home is pretty much impossible, antipaladin - and with all that "let's attack Iran" problem, it can only get worse. As for the dead bodies vs. alive prisoners idea - well, most likely your prisons are full indeed.

Oh ok...no problem then.

Ok...ok...I'm convinced!

And actually, hydrogen power plants (water is the only by-product) are the way of the future. But, that's besides the point of this thread.

However, I'd like to ask one thing...

You see all the devastation caused to the planet by wars that are fought over trivial (in the big picture) things...all the suffering, death. Don't you ever get mad at the human race?

(Be honest! )
