Musicians Tavern

We have many Tavers here, but I thought I could start this one up for anyone that wants to talk about music.

Ask if you want any drink or something to eat and I shall send someone to make it for you.

But I will need some people to actually serve the food and make it I will be the main one conducting business

So I have something for you for those interested in keyboards in regards to analog and digital:

Do you think that the introduction of Digital keyboards was worth it?

I think it was because if Digital wasn't introduced, then that means that most of the songs that we like today wouldn't exist.

Also, underaged people will not be served any alcohol. Milk, water, coke (not the drugs), pepsi, or anything like that will be served.

I only use virtual keyboards (software) so I don't know whether it was worth it or not

Who needs keyboard when you got drums?

Serious(I know, I dont have that power): Keyboards are ... for effecs and people with no money to buy a piano. Or if you play disco. I really dislike keyboard because I think it is misused to many times.

Hehe, well artists today use software. For example (yes another mention of TD)P, use software synthesizers to do some of their live concerts. Edgar Froese has used the Arturia Moog Modular V software synthesizer with some of his concerts. It seems that these days, many artists are emerging who do make music via computerised means such as software synthesizers or music making programs.

I have a mix of both digital and analog software synthesizers. I don't know what one I like more since they both sound very different from one another, but I can assure you that they both sound cool, in my opinion.

Anyone want some drinks and to talk? It doesn't have to necessarily about making music, you can talk about music in general I guess. Just need some more customers in here

Well, I really dislike people who make all the music elektronic, it makes the music feel so ... Fake and non-real. Also if you make all your music elektronic you don't have to be musical, but just able to put notes on a screen and make a bad drum rythem.

I would just like a coke, nothing more pls.

Sorry but I must disagree with you. I don't see how the music can be fake and not real when it isn't really trying to emulate anything. It is it's own unique sound. A sound that you haven't heard before. How can that really be fake? And not all Electronic song have bad drum beats. I can make some pretty cool drum beats and I have also heard songs which have awesome drums in them.

*gives you a coke*

Well yeah, even Hans Zimmer and Jeremy Soule (I hope you know Jeremy from various games like Morrowind and Neverwinter Nights and Dungeon Siege, for example) use software synthesizers. My way of making "samples" is using a lot of various tools. The subtractive synthesizers are only the first step, since they usually don't sound that dynamic. You can then re-synthesize the output with an Additive Synthesizer, then modify it (make it more dynamic, that is changing over time), and export it, then open it up with some sound editor like Cool Edit (now Adobe Audition) or Soundforge or even some freebies. Then have a look at the individual samples (points) that make up the sound (which are stored in the file), you can't get more low-level than this. If you need an ensemble, just repeat the process, then mix them together.. Possibly add a chorus effect later on

Yeah now my mouth's dry, I need some Water (mineral water, how do you call it in english?), just because I don't like alcohol and get drunk.

Hmm... all I am trying to say here is, more or less, I like music where I know there are real people playing the instruments, everything else makes my world turn upside down!

Yes

Yes ofcourse people are playing keyboard, but elektronic music is not 5 guys playing on 5 instruments, it is more or less 1 to 2 guys playing keyboards and just pressing buttons... no fun

Wrong. Again I mention TD, they usually had 3 people operating a number of instruments that were around them. They sat in the middle, usually with synthesizers, effects, sequencers etc all around them.

It must have been very hard.

Jean Michel Jarre made music just by himself and he was surrounded by many synthesizers. He could play 2 things at once, which is quite impressive.

Honestly I don't like to be pressed by time and sweat, so I like to pre-program (software for example) the music patterns and then let the computer sing by itself

Thanks for the mineral water, I really needed it.

I am a fan of orchestral music emulated on computer software (every recording is on the computer anyways)

EDIT: Do you know the orchestral soundtracks from games such as Neverwinter Nights, Morrowind, Dungeon Siege (basically made by Jeremy Soule)?? Or do you know the orchestral soundtracks from movies made by, e.g: Hans Zimmer? Those are made with computer software, not a "real" orchestra

I agree.

Currently, I am the Lead Guitarist of a Black Metal band. We also use Syntheisers, but we use computer very rarely - only to distorate vocals, and make the ballance beetwen instruments and vocals.
