Reasonable, but I can't see it working out, we already have both humans and demons, and dark elves are pretty close in concept in any case.

And the faction for the 2nd expansion should be...well,I don't know, but a combination between Lizardmen,Gnomes and`Troglodytes is really good

Bad bad idea, gnomes don't go with either of them (better choices would be humans, dwarves, elves, wizard or any combination of such). Additionally, I've always seen lizardmen as a jungle race and troglodytes as an underground one, and while either could probably go well with dark elves, they don't go with each other.

Dear Bixie.

I always liked your ideas, but this idea... bah...

I mean.
No elves? No demons? No Haven faction? You call it Heroes of Might and Magic?

Also...
Its Heroes of Might and Magic and NOT Heroes of Might or Magic.

And please.

I always liked new ideas, but replacing the original factions with some chinesse/japanse anime-driwen ideas... unorthodox... and for me, disappointing (sorry)
I would rather like to see Hungarian / Slavic / Green / Romanian / Germanic / Scandinavian / Biblie mythology creatures.

hmm, Draco, I disagree. Why just take the European myths, if you take any earthlike mythologies? Then you should be fair and also take the Asian, African, American and Aboriginal Myths (and more, liek Inuit, Southamerican, etc.) And that wuld give several factiosn - indeed I had the impression it is what bixie did...

Yet I agree to you in the point that it is unorthodox and not really heroes fo Might and Magic - but why should the gameplay be fixed on a certain type of setting? During the last weeks, I thought soem times: What if the Heroes-Gameplay would be used on some other setting - I mainly had given fantasy-worlds in mind, but why not use it on the medieval times, ancient times...but I guess there is some thread like this allready lurkign around somewhere here, and it is not really about bixies idea, again

Heroes of Might and Magic 1-4 was the contine of Might and Magic 1-5's storyline... Nival and Ubisoft totaly killed HOMM 5 with the storyline.

HOMM 5 is very driffent than HOMM 0-4 (no traditional creatures), so please don't make any more differences!

I am a bif fan of High Fantasy... And I certanly, don't like the idea of replacing the original Might and Magic with some japanse/chinesse low fantasy stuff. Please, stay traditional.

allow me to clarify some things

thats is partly the point. it seems like being a fan means that you demand the same game over and over again, and when people try to be a bit creative with the franchise, that only leads to disaster for them.

I'm just presenting a possiblity of where the franchise of Homm could go. Don't treat it as direct sequalage, but more as an idea of the potential that Homm has in low fantasy as it has in high. Homm's core gameplay mechanics, mixed with the co-existant worlds of spirit and human, could equal best seller.

Lets face it, most of the factions in Homm have been done before and done better! Homm4 was the first game in the series that tried to mix it up a bit, but due to huge outrage from the fans (Traditionalist rather than Progressionists) it was considered satan's spunk and promptly rejected. If you think about it, Even Heroes 5 prompted outrage when they were ditching the old dungeon to make way for something different. Haven, Inferno, Elvish factions, all have been done before and have, frankly, gotten boring. There is only so much you can do with a faction which is about holy crusading humans beating up everyone else.

Drako, you have raised an important point that I felt needed to be raised. Because of the traditional factions and content, does that define a Heroes game? I say no, You can have a heroes game and forswear all of that, because its about what we what, the TBS goodness set in a fantasy setting. Jiriki hit the nail on the head with this. I might not call it Heroes of might and magic 6.

and to be honest, It feels a lot better when we use real warrior types and so on. if people are really inspired by this game, then they will go and do research on the character, read a bit more into them, find out their fighting styles, and so on. And I also think it is cool that you can have a Viking and a samurai duking it out on the battlefield by day, then at night, a Troll and a Tengu doing exactly the same thing. It gives the idea that "War is eternal and omnipresent".

don't pluck this seed, it has yet a chance to blossom.

Well currently, I go for...

-Keep the Traditioal factions like Haven, Academy, Sylan, Necropolis, Dungeon and Inferno
-Get new Mythical creatures from ALL myths
-Give Guns, Riffles, Cannons and Muskets to Haven.
-2 heroes per faction
-Keep the "humans can also become mage" and "priests can cast spells" stuff... its realy good.
-Some new feathures, like Dynamic Aliances formed during the game, Population, etc.

and I continue Drako's new features:
-I'd like to focus not only on a ground combat, will be good if will be better NAVAL COMBAT,with more types of ships:
Cog : Only transport ship
Galley :Basic war ship,transport ship
Galleon :Flame-big-arrows-throwing ship,big transport ship
Monitor :Ship with big cannon, the best ship in the game, huge transport ship
And in naval combat the ships can attack the other ships,or creature in the enemy ships.A ship can be destroyed during combat,so the hero and all his creatures are lost
-FOOD SYSTEM (but with this the game will be hard)
Food types:
Haven:Meat,Bread,Cheese
Inferno:Flamed bananas Flaming Humans,Flaming fruits
Necropolis:Blood (only for vampires) bones,10000-years old food
Academy: SUGGESTIONS ?
Sylvan:Vegetables
Dungeon:Mushrooms,Onions
Fortress: SUGGESTIONS ?
Stronghold:Human meat,Blood
And the food system will work as the number of creatures the players have, more creatures you have, more food you will need
Food can be find on the adventure map,at a new building-Food Deposit
or buildng food-productions buildings in your town, for example: Dairy Farm(Cheese Production) for Haven

***I WILL COME WITH NEW FEATURES WHEN I WILL HAVE NEW IDEAS***

but not in this tread, probably I will open a thread about this...

When I first read the title of this thread, I felt sceptic, maybe because we all like so much the stories of the magical realms fighting each other. However, after reading a bit, I realized that this story and the entire gamimg concept, is actually excellent. Switching from the humans to the spirits with the day and night changes sounds like one of the most interesting and innovative suggestions I have heard recently.

Anyway, too add this more variety, I would give every day kingdom different human creatures, mechanical creatures and beasts, and every night kingdom different kind of magical creatures. I hope you're planning to add them. Otherwise, you have only two line-ups, which is like having two towns in the game - what you wouldn't wanna see in Heroes 6, right?

Anyway, +QP applied.

Like Bixie said in his first post:
Quote:
for those of you who don't know what low fantasy is, it is essentially humanity and magic. so, here it is.

You know that not all Fantasy games require you to have all monsters and stuff? I mean, if you look at Heroes of Might and Magic 5 you can clearly see that they have their fair share of Humans in there. And just look at the name: Heroes of Might and Magic. It doesn't necessarily say anything to do with any creatures of some kind now does it? I personally like Bixie's idea and it would certainly be something quite different for the game.

Also, I disagree that a game should have Hungarian, Slavic, Green (what?), Romanian, Germanic, Scandinavian and/or Biblie fantasy in it. In fact, I wouldn't say that there is too much fantasy to be had there. If you want fantasy then perhaps look at the ancient Roman and Greek Gods. You could also look at the ancient Japanese and Chinese Gods since there were a lot of mythology to do with that.

I hope to see some more improvements and await what else you have to say on this, Bixie.

About adding technology into it... I'm a little weary about it. Look at the time period, its set in early on in humanities development, where we were still building empires on the bases of plumbing.

but on the other hand, I've included a fireworks master already, so I can't really complain.

Bixie what about this for your Norse (norns) Spirits (I'm quite Familiar with Norse Mythology myself):

1) Brownie => Fairy/Fae
2) Nibelung (can be either a Gnomish Spellcaster or a Ghost like creature) => Sniverblin/Erlking
3) Dwarf => Black Dwarf/ Grey Dwarf
4) Einherjar (Spirit's of Fallen Warriors) => Ragnarok Einherjar/ Walhalla Einherjar
5) Troll => Hámartroll/ Blood Troll
6) Fenris Wolf Brood (Giant and extremely Ferocious wolf) => Fenrir/Fimbulwinter Wolf
7)Jotunn (= Nordic Giant) => Surtr/Buri

Btw: Why kind of Creature is a Firbolg?

Firstly, thank you so much with your critism.

Second, Firbolgs are, like the fairies in some way, a Celtic creature, a monster who stalked the marshes, armed with a lantern to guide people to safety. However, Firbolgs were bad-tempered, and if you annoyed them, they would lead you into the marshes and leave you to drown.

What would be really interesting is to see the different bits of design work for each of the creatures for the norns, because of the fact they are so intertwined with nature. the fairies would have strange, flower-like garbes and fly along on them, whilst the trolls will look like a small mound of rocks, whilst the firbolgs would have marsh-land plants growing out of their back, all the way to the Giants who are hills, even with a fence across their back... sorry, I'm rambling.

My reason for not including the Einherjar is simple. the Jangsin spirits are already dead people... Maybe I should write some more backstory on them, but hey ho.

First of all it's an interesting approach and I like it. Especially that your are working with different human factions and therefore different themes rather than different races. That reminds me on my own concept (second draft) where I work with unique themes for each faction with the difference that I don't split each faction in human and non-human part but use different races instead.

Maybe that's the point why my concept can be called high fantasy and yours low fantasy. But to be honest I don't really see the low fantasy in your concept. For me in low fantasy the magical and supernatural world have to be reduced rather than just separated into night time. But maybe I misinterpret something and it will become clearer as soon as more details are known (more history, more game mechanics etc.). If I would create a low fantasy setting I would integrate magical and supernatural creatures mostly as magic summonings and rare, not very numerous but rather mighty recruits.

Then another remark, I wouldn't call the nordic faction Norns because norns are actually more spirits rather than humans. They are "numerous female beings who rule the fates of the various races of Norse mythology" (wikipedia).

Well really, your both right and wrong. The non-human parts are seperate and they have also been reduced as well...

Most of the Homm Games have generally relied on the idea "They did this because they are elves," or "He did that because he's a demon". If you reduce such cliches in this format, then you might have an interesting story with non of the speiciesism.

for want of a better word, really.
I tried to call them something else.
Nords (Done before)
Jords (what the hell...)
Fjords (Oh god, the coastlines are attacking!)
bjorns (Abba without the other three)

so norns were the rational finish.

i also did it partly for the spiritual link as well.

hmmm, for the Carthan units...looks like you base Cartahn mostly on the ancient meditterranean civilization (Romans, Greeks, usw.), am I right here?

Then I, in your point, would probably add a War Chariot in some of the higher ties, would maybe boost up Hoplites a bit (weren't they rather well-trained?) and make Phalanx an upgrade of them (or other way round). Then war elephants may be good, but I think, you had in mind to use them in your desert or your jungle faction, eh? Another good idea could be Legionnaires for tier 4-6, as heavy infantery, or a light war machine (ballistas, for instance).

However, a completely new idea for the Carthan human lineup:

Hero: Noble
Tier 1: Militia > ?(no idea yet)
Tier 2: Spear Thrower > Javeliner/?(okay, here, I got no creative idea)
Tier 3: Hoplite > Phalanx/Spartakians (okay thats just madeup^^, but got no better idea so far)
Tier 4: Gladiator > Legionnaire/Arena Champion
Tier 5: Priest > Mars Priest/Jupiter Priest
Tier 6: Legionnaire Cavalry > Chivalry/Knights
Tier 7: Chariot > Blade Chariot/War Chariot

Just as an idea...
