The music vs the message
Have you ever wondered why most popular music isn't as good as it used to be? I have a theory that the majority of music in the secular market is marketed to those who only care about the beats. What the hell happened with 'Hollaback Girl'? Perhaps there is only room for the most nonsensical of crap that the music industry provide when those of us with a brain would believe otherwise. Whatever happened to the message? Is it heading for an early grave?
There are many genres of music, some with more positive messages than others. I have not much respect for death, as the majority of death metal musicians promote murder, rape and other travesties. Ever wondered the Christian music industry is growing by the nanosecond? The majority of Christian music fans, like the average alternative rock listener, only listen to music for the message. For Christians this is important as they believe the lyrics are the soundtracks of their lives. A lot of other genres and singer-songwriters have the same ideologies.
Even political messages have success in music. The most notable of these are the protest songs of the Vietnam War era and the early anarchist-punk movement in Britain (political ideals are still common in punk music today).

I don't care for either consignment or quality of the music I listen to. If it brings good memories, or amplifies certain feelings, I love it. If it fails to generate such feelings or bring back memories, no matter how good it is, I turn it off.

I agree with Doomforge, and btw, I listen mostly to orchestral soundtracks which are in 99% cases without any kind of lyrics.

I think that most synth pop music from the 80's had strong messages. Many included elements involving love which is something that all of us can relate to. But it doesn't necessarily matter to me. I can listen to a 20 minute song without lyrics and be just as happy as if I were to listen to a song with lyrics.
Doesn't bother me really. Although 80's music is really starting to sink in to me, and it is having an affect on the way that I create music, minus the lyrics part.

@TheDeath, yes, all of them are in mp3. They are, of course, in different bit rates. But I have a few hundred of their songs (so many more to collect)

I don't actually liston to music because of the message but the sounds.
The music is good if there are some good sounds, which can either mean the sounds of the instruments or the sounds of the lyrics.
But of course the lyrics normally mean something and this meaning (a.k.a. message), in my opinion, is usually able to enhance the sounds and raise your emotional level.
But I wouldn't never listen to a song just for the message alone because I can always recall this message in my head in the same way without listening to the song again because you don't actually sense the message, which you get out of the lyrics, with any of your five senses; your brains kind of forms the message from the lyrics and this forming doesn't feel any different as if you were just memorizing it (Your brains do the both thing anyway)
But what comes to the sounds, by memorizing them, you can't hear the sounds in your head the same way you can hear them from your stereos with one of your senses. This is why I like to play the song again instead of just replaying it in my head. I like to hear the sounds with my ears and then let my brains process them.
Best songs are those which sounds, both oral and instrumental, fit with each other forming a solid style.

These over here take up 14.3 GB of space.
And there's still so much missing.
I've got two A4s full of artist names. How am I ever gonna get all fitting at my PC?

As you can see it's pretty diverse.
I should note for all you soundtrack lovers that I do have all the soundtracks from C&C games. I ripped them from the .mix-files and burned them. Now if I only could find those CDs...I swear I saw them somewhere a while ago.
Have you others had those "Error! No action defined"-thingys jumping at your face lately when trying to post? Is this a new common error or what?

Fitting on the hard disk is not such a big deal. It's worse when you won't be able to truly enjoy a song since you have too many and can't listen to one properly (very few times)
