I think I invited you people to post your own impression of your favorite villains. I don't know a lot of them and I hate quoting wikipedia, so I suggest you make a small contribution to this (please) by posting Ming or Alan.

Damnit! it's ike the third time someone asked to post someone here, I say yes and smile and hope they do it, but no! it's like some virus.
Oh, well, I decided to make a small tribute to disney for giving some masterfully engineered baddies by showing off it's proud tradition of making them sing
Be prepared is a song by scar in the lion king where a dark plot is revealed by the ever-so-charming villain, the aptly named Scar.
My lullaby is a song by Zhira, the wife of the previous villain, who plots revenge. She's bitter and uses her children to get back at the people/ animals who wronged her.
Hellfire is a song by one of my all-time favorites, Frollo. In this song, he can't cope with the feelings he has and starts growing to madness. (In fact, because I like this villain so much, I'll link a better ode to him.)
Savages is a song by a rather dumb villain who wants to find gold in Virginia Luckily, the native american tribes sing along so there's a nice grey area that I like and is kinda rare in disney movies.
In the dark of the night (song starts after three minutes or so) is a song by a wrongfully portrayed villain, rasputin. (just saying that you should take the claim 'based on historical events' with mountainous piles of salt) Also, this isn't exactly disney, but rather fox... Style is same though...
Worlds greatest criminal mind is a song by the rat, ratigan, who plans to become the monarch in the mousekingdom. I heartily recommend it for people who like criminals with brains.
Gaston is a tactless, mean and tricky villain. He has a lot of influence in a small farming community and, apparently, sings in bars along with his buds, proving his awesome manliness.
youre only second rate a first rate villain bothers the support character that usually saves the protagonist and continues with his evil plan to become the most powerful entity ever (OFF COURSE!!!).
Welcome to the forty thieves is just a nice song by forty dirty baddies who sing about the advantages a life of crime brings.
I wanna be like you is not necessarily a villain video, since it falls in one of disney's rare grey areas.
Toxic love is song also not by disney, but has a funny style and is... rather unique...
slaughter your world is a song by richard on a tune of the disney song 'what a wonderful world'. I really love it and gives a nice voice to Richard when maiming and killing everyone.
*hopes that this infuriates lex and makes im post disney songs in a rapid frenzy*

I should do write-ups on Sauron, Shagrat and Giovanni when I have more time. I really like those three as they're all evil in their own special way.

Why thank you, ash, and I return with a question on villainy (directed at everyone here), which I'm curious about:
1)What constitutes a good villain? (What qualities does he have, is his appearance important? Backstory? etc...)
2) Please, give an example of a good villain.
I'm not entirely sure wha would constitute a good villain, but...
I think a good villain doesn't nee to like it, he doesn't need to walk the walk or talk the talk. I think a good villain is the guy that makes you go like this: "Hey... Maybe he's right..."
If the villain did this for just one moment to you, he won. He's a terrible (in a good way) and terrifying (also, in a good way). The back of your head says: "He's wrong. It's not right.", but you doubt something. this could bring deep questions about the morality of man to the surface and whether the ones that are portrayed as villains by us, can be portrayed as heroes by others. Alternatively, this can be replaced with the guy that you understand and you'd act like him, if you were in his place.
An example from an anime/ manga. Death note has a villain, he's named 'Kira' in the papers (I suppose it's engrish for killer, but I'll shut my mouth). He is the example of perfect application of the death penalty. Basically, what he does is kill every criminal that got away with a crime. He murders serial killers, mobsters, drug lords, a lot of people. And the problem with this is 'well, why does that make him a villain?'
and that's my problem: I don't consider him to be one, though he becomes powerhungry and murders innocents later on. You'll always believe his basic premise was right.
The same is true with Mariko from Elfen Lied and the joker as portrayed by Heath ledger has it for one or two moments, but I'm not sure, he had all other qualities that distracted me...

I say Jon Irenicus, the wizard villain from Baldur's Gate II, is the best villain from any video game I've played so far.
Why is he a good villain?
As a starting point, he breaks the vastly overused cliches among villains where he goes around being overtly evil just for the hell of it.
The producers make him an extremely dry and bitter character, almost as though he's lost all sapience and is just a machine of hatred. Throughout the Baldur's Gate campaign Irenicus' extreme confidence and power make you feel helpless the entire time. Even when he's supposedly confined in prison he has a cynical and even bored attitude, as though every person's actions against him are completely futile, and until the very end of the campaign, they are. In the end, you discover his heart has turned to iron from rejection from his own people and his own lover, and he now seeks to forcefully become part of his people's ways forever by becoming a god among their pantheon. It is the ultimatel betrayal and ambition.

Plus he doesn't do villain expositions Yes there was something about him, the way he appeared in your dreams, his twisted personality. In a way he was...teaching you. The nature of his punishment was a nice touch, a fall from grace and indeed nothing elven remained in him anymore. Everything from his previous life had faded along with passion, memories, even the memory of the memories felt hollow. In essence he was a hollow man with revenge the only thing to keep him going.
Death note was great because the protagonist could very well be considered a villain. Being a character with strong morals he believed that what he did was right, his motives were pure even if the means were dirty. In the anime it's kinda simplified how easily he decides to use that power, I mean the bad guys he kills are mostly behind bars right? In the movie that part is addressed as it shows bad men getting out to continue their crimes like nothing had happened. Which I'm afraid is the truth. So being a realist he starts dealing with them one by one to purge the world, where things begin to get ugly is that he wants to become a GOD of this new world. Not really surprising for a 17 year old with these powers and no fear of divine retribution but it's an unsettling thought. This is typical teenager arrogance, thinking you know everything and that the world will bend around your ideals, he already considered the world rotten and was not exactly corrupted by the power of the notebook. Kinda like Ozymandias in watchmen tried to 'purge' the world from hostilities and achieve world peace, you can't just press a switch and turn it off, it's inevitable one way or another. But the road to hell is paved with good intentions and Kira resumes the killing with everyone getting in his way. And uses people who care for him as if they were puppets.
A similar case is Jigsaw, in a way. He has seen what most others have not and his methods CAN make you appreciate life again but at the same time he is playing God by 'punishing' people in an ironic way. He does not have an evil intent though and has strong beliefs that cannot bend. Add his calm, twisted personality and masterful planning and you have one classy villain whose crimes may disgust you yet you can't really hate.
Another example? V from V for Vendetta, what he does to Evey Hammond is monstrous, almost drives her to insanity yet in the end she is transformed by the experience, she has shed her fears and doubts being a new person. Throughout the comic/movie it is not entirely clear whether he is a genius or insane, good or bad. He is well educated, intelligent and compelling which is pretty close to the formula the aforementioned fit in.
