Quote: You really don't know when to let it go do you? This thread was heading into the direction it was originally going to take but you had to steer it off course again. Maybe you should just make that as a HCM and I can delete this post and you delete yours.
Someone has to clarify that what you said at first was misleading

Yes, TheDeath, but it just makes this thread Off-topic. If I'm wrong then I'm wrong. Do you honestly need to do things to threads like these. No wonder OSM has been going downhill lately. (not a reference to Downhill Times)

If necessary I could just make a tutorial on extracting the H3 sound files...

That would be great Cepeheus. If you did that then I might even try to do it as well. Would be great to have the classic sounds in the games again.

All right now talking about sounds:
Maybe I don't remember it right, but were the H3-build sounds really that interesting? I would rather like to see the H2-golem walking sounds back.

Alrighty.
Tools you need:
ResEdit 2
Heroes III
Audacity, Windows Media Player or any .wav player
1. Download ResEdit 2, then open it up. Click "Open resource file" and navigate to the Heroes III directory, which should be in C:\Program Files\3DO\Heroes 3 Complete\Data
2. There's a good few archives in here. Open the archive named Heroes3, which contains sounds. You should now see a load of .wav files to choose from.
3. Press Shift+Ctrl+F11 to access Preferences. Now choose the General tab and set the extract path to a directory you can access (like the Desktop).
4. Now just select the files you want to listen to and extract them using Ctrl+S or the extract button. There's no way to listen to them before extracting: just look at their names for a clue as to what they are. FIREBALL.WAV for example is the sound effect for the Fireball spell.
5. Head to your extract path directory and open the files using Audacity or whatever .wav player you have.
Simple as that
As for Heroes III sounds being interesting, did you know that the HV Gargoyles apparently use the exact same soundset as the HIII Wyverns?

Quote: Anyone knows if they are hosted somewhere? Would be fun if I changed that annoying msn sound to an H3 sound effect
Haha, it is possible. Some years ago I changed my Windows start sound to the menu music of Heroes 3
P.s - and yes, the H3 sound files are mp3's!
P.s.s - Radar, thanks for the good job, man!!!

I'm sorry if I repeat...
but nobody knows my own MOD
FormerSongs.h5u is attached to FormerSong folder containing, about me, the best hits of H2, H3 and H4.
and that containing also somes sounds like when your heroes up the level, its the up level h2 sound we can hear.
I didn't release my MOD yet just because it takes at least 40mg. (all ogg files)
