Jinxer, why don't you use a quest placed behind each of the 2 towns? Quest behind blue castle is triggered by red, quest behind the red castle is triggered by blue. Activating the quest triggers victory. That will invalidate for ever castle sitting.

For the red rush HoMMV does not have a script possibility to enable a border gate passability from day 2 to 7 and disable it on day 1?

I know it is easy script for WoG, should not be so hard to imagine something similar for HoMMV. I have no idea if scripting in HoMMV can be deep, is it?

The best way to prohibit exploits is to do something in the mapmaking process, later is too late.

Actually... do you honestly have a rule... seige all you want if you leave catapult alone??  That is a great rule! I wouldnt mind castle sitting Near as much if they would kill catapult...  still not loving idea of castle sitting.. but if I have to seige... knowing I have atleast a chance with catapult to eventually knock walls down.. is atleast fair.

Good idea.

To Jinxer - I know many other examples were my opponent try to use false morale to manipulate my... False game morale it's only a tool to manipulate your opponent ... This is war, no rules is best way to go. You so match dislike the way Heroes 5 is, maybe is not your game ?

I see that no one answers here, but the question remains:

If you make an mp map there are a million and ten ways to make sure the game isn't decided by the question whether it is allowed to turtle in town or to kill the catapult. So why are you playing or making such maps? I would go so far and say that a map which needs a 2 month siege after 5 weeks of play to decide it, is simply a bad map for mp and a waste of precious gaminf time and if it was specifically made for mp it's even worse.

iohann: Town sitting is not only normal but its important part from game. If you plan to rush your oponent you need to be ready for beat him in town. If he cant back to defend his town you can get it. Are its unhonorable to get undefendet town because your oponent cant back in time for defend it? Its WAR game. You need to be ready for all. I have games when i give my oponent to get my town to can attack him after it in town...and its can give me big advantage.
All what is dishonor is hit/run and mentored camicadze. Traping oponent with lies in game is dishonor too. For this when you play dont ask your oponent what he doing.

BTW heroes and  chess are strategy games but very different. In chess no radom element for example

Yes  very good point Elit... I have always wished that the HEROES series was more tilted in the chess type of game direction.  More player ability to decide game.. instead of roll the dice and award winner.  I dont mind losing at all... but want my opponent to BEAT me.. not random lucky roll of the dice.

@ Infinitus --- sure there are TONS of things about heroes that I dont like.. but doesnt mean I hate the game.  Just voicing my opinions... same as you do.

Townsitting not a stalemate?
Ok, lets get down to details!
1. Do all agree that townsitting player can buy up all of his troops no matter how long the game and not run out of money? (If no do i need to show how it goes again?)

2. Now lets take a map (don't know many but lets say like Heritage of Deleb without artifact merchant) where every player can only have one town. Our townsitter won't be a helpless noob, just a step slower. He has cleared his side and has built well. His opponent has played much better, is at higher level and better in artifacts. It is early week four.
Please lay out the general strategy how do you ever get strong enough to overcome his castle bonus.

You have a tier 6 dwelling on that map Take his, and then the longer you wait the more advantage you gain from yours.

It would take a long time, but you'll eventually have a much higher army.

I think this is not enough. You can only outnumber him 3:2 in one stack. For that your shooters have whooping 50% more penalty.
I have tried several attacks on castle where I outnumber opponent by 40% in all stacks. It was a blowout for me. Quick blowout. His troops just won't die behind those walls.

I mean, has that map made specifically for MP play, human on human? If so, I can't believe it.

Ok then:

Get Mentoring perk (if you don't have it you can visit the Memory Mentor on that map)

Mentor a lot of secondaries and specialize them in destructive force (this includes CotN/WoL)

Hit (and you don't even need to Run away) his castle with those mentored Heroes with troops from his dwellings

I think that should weaken him enough so that your main can take him out.

When playing with lame castle defenders who don't want to admit their defeat you have to use all nasty tricks.

What's not to believe? The map could be Heritage of Deleb itslef. Even with artifact merchant you will have to wait for AGES to assemble full Dragon set. Months, maybe years in game time.

@JJ: Besides, that DOES prove my point that Mentoring is broken, since it allows you to win in this situation when the enemy is overpowering you with the castle defenses.

So Mentoring = IMBA and completely broken.

Townsitting
If we exclude Dwarf 'bug' of 500+ lev1 join in town when fight inside, i think is map's obligation to help the one who made it all the way to opponent front door (attacker)

I agree that is very annoying to see opponent wait in town, but equal annoying is a reaction of style: 'so now you gonna sit and wait in town'?. If game allows it is legal.

As for stalemate in general.. hey! we could just play happily each one in his side and never fight for territotial expansion.. but is suppose to be WAR situation, dont ask me why.. so... that.

Heritage of Deleb
never been hostile bout a map before, nor i want to now, yet i see it raise many complaints. Have to accept that this is a 'freak' map, perfect for exploit, and balance is not even an issue. I respect it cause is a league on its own, but not treat it as a normal h5 game.. is more like when baggamon and h5 appetite come together and cant decide which to play

Why do I have to tell everything thrice? This is Heroes FIVE. so we have a lot of experience with things.

That's why a decent MP map must either

1) have additional victory condition(s) except kill them all (and you can basically have ANY vc you want with H5). Example: conquer a specific town.
2) have means on the map to give a big advantage: DECISIVE outside creature dwellings, certain spells (in a wand, scroll or grimoire), tear of asha, big cache of money, additional town(s), fully built or with creatures, relic artifacts, DECISIVE heroes to be freed,

PREFARABLY AN INTERESTING COMBINATION OF MORE THAN ONE THING!
