Thank you Doomforge for being the first one in this thread to say that.

Standard is not the same everywhere. But these prices are. For some countries, 20 euros is a beer, and in the others, it's your weekly wage. That doesn't prevent hordes of kids playing WoW here too, though...

Alright, 150 euros is an abnormally small wage even here... What's your job, anyway?

The middle age in WoW is 33-36 or something like that. Im the youngest member in my guild (although im still Officer and "Hunter expert", which is the highest rank before Guild Master).

From the survey data, the average age of the WoW player is 28.3 (SD = 8.4).

Ops appears to be 28
Very interesting.
The average WoW players spends around three hours and 25 minutes playing the game each day.
However, I do belive that people dont play a lot on "normal" days but instead mostly on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The main problem about WoW (for me) is that the cinematics are all serious and extremly cool, but the game itself is cartoonish and not my style at all...

The story itself seems so weird and complicated that I don't even feel like trying to understand it. There are spaceships and planets, weird portals and well... they mix this with magic and swords...

The first time I played WoW (And my only time) I created a Nightelf female Hunter, started the game and walked around a bit, did a few quests, got my skills... didn't feel any attraction at all, so I'm wondering, what did I miss?

Somehow I failed to be "hooked on" by the atmosphere, if there was any, the story didn't get any grip around me and I felt like I might as well have been playing a game of Tetris, it didn't appeal to me at all.

I played for about 1,5 hours (and about 30 minutes of that was just because I didn't feel like telling my friend: "Dude, this game sucks!")

Sure, there things I dont like about WoW either like when I was trying to be nice to my friend and helped him kill Red dragon babies for 6-7 hours -.-
Never, ever again. So boring. And it didnt drop, his dragon companion mini-pet.
He got it the next day.

And how to portals not fit in a fantasy world?
A Portal is a way of transport in Warcraft, but it can take much energy unless you have some kind of teleportation runes and is often used in emergency.´
Basically, when you go through a Portal you pass through the "planet-web dimension (spelling?)" called the Twisting Nether.
And there are no spaceships. I guess you think about Tempest Keep and Oshu'gun.
These are kind of like ships but still very different. They warp through the Twisting Nethers like portals but dont have any lazor beamz etc
Tempest Keep is more like a dimensional Fortress and the Exodar (which I think you are thinking of) was a part of the fortress.
The Draenei used it to flee from the planet of Draenor but the Exodar (which served as the living quarters of the keep) was hijacked by Blood Elves who sabotated it.
It caused the Exodar to crash on Azeroth.
And I dont understand whats wrong with other planets?
Many races in Azeroth are basically aliens (orcs, ogres, draenei etc) - there are other planets with intelligent life of in the real world too.

Plus in the old Might and Magic universe the Angels are cyborgs and the Demons insectoids etc. Not to mention Forge (omg Naga tanks). Warcraft is steampunk, just like Warhammer.
However there was little bit much sci-fi in the Burning Crusade... but now we have returned to Azeroth and Northrend which is full of Norse mythology ^^
(lol Voldrassil, Jormungar, Utgarde Keep, Gjalerbron, Ingvar the Plunderer, Vrykul, King Ymir, Ymirherjar)

Anyway my review of Wrath will come shortly.
In the meantime you can watch the conclusion of the first act in WoW: WotLK
Its an awesome cinematic and I did the quests leading up to it yesterday. This is a major event in the Warcraft lore and the big events after it (battle of undercity etc) are very important and may lead to Warcraft 4 (although unlikly, since WoW basically is wc4 and everything in WoW is the real lore).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrMa_sU1Nnk

Explantion
Dont understand the video?
Or want to know what major lore event which happens after?
Xerox saves the day and gives you everything you need.

So what are those viking giants in the video?
They are the Vrykul.¨
When Arthas was in Northrend they were missing because they were sleeping below the Utgarde Keep.
But when the Lich King and his Scourge became the main superpower of Azeroth then the Vrykul awoke and the Lich King enslaved them.
With the help of the Vrykul and the Val'kyr - the Lich King has also gained dominion of the Spirit realm.'

Basically, the Wrathgate (seen in the battle), which is shaped like the Helm of Dominion (the Lich Kings helmet), is the gate into the Icecrown Citadel.
So the Alliance and the Horde bands together again to attack the Wrathgate. Anyway, before you see the battle and become Veteran of the Wrathgate, I will tell you about the quests leading up to it.
Its in four parts.

1. Recruiting the Taunka
The Taunka are an off-shot of the Tauren who lives in Northrend. There capital of Icemist has been attacked by the undead Nerubians. A huge sinkhole emerged below Icemist and is leading directly to the Azjol Empire - Azjol-Nerub.
The Horde recruits the Taunka ínto the Horde and when you have done the quests, you acctualy see Taunka soldiers in the Horde towns.
As the Taunka are with the Horde now, we must assist them in retaking their lands, this leads to the second chapter leading into the Wrathgate battle...

2. The Anub'ar Assualt
The undead Nerubians which are loyal to Anub'arak and the Scourge are emerging from sinkholes all across Northrend.
The Anub'ar are planning to assist the Scourge in the battle of Angrathar the Wrathgate and has already captured the Taunka capital of Icemist.
The Horde assualts the Anub'ar and kills the leader which led the assualt on Icemist.
Now the Scourge has no reinforcements at the Wrathgate.
And these events leads to something much more sinister, the third chapter leadding into the Wrathgate is...

3. The Forsaken Blight
From lvl 1 you know that the Forsaken is creating a new plague. They tell the other members of the Horde that they are trying to make a cure against undeath - and a weapon against the Scourge.
You are sent to the Forsaken town of Venomspite in the eastern Dragonblight in Northrend.
You assit the scary plaguedoctors and helps them develop their plague - which FINALLY is successful after a thousand failed attempts.
These events leads to chapter four, called...

4. The Red Dragonflight
The Horde and Alliance cannot do the battle themself and must gain the favor of the dragons of life, the Red Dragonflight.
You are sent to speak with the dragon queen Alexstrasza.
In order to get her favor, you must assist her flight.
In the zone of the Dragonblight, which is a dragon graveyard and where dragons come to die, the Scourge is raising Frost Wyrms.
You get command of a Red Drake and attack the main base of operations in the Frost Wyrm project.
Beign successful, Alexstraszas promises to help the mortal races.
She also says that the age of the dragons is reaching its end...
You report to the Horde guy that leads the Horde assualt on the Wrathgate.
Saurfang the Younger, son of the legendary Varok Saurfang and brother of Broxigar Saurfang, is the one leading the assualt.
He is a brown orc, one of the Mag'har. The Mag'har are the only orcs that didnt het corrupted by fel energies and were recently discovered in Outland.
Now its time for the battle....

5. 1/3 Act in WotLK: Assault of the Wrathgate
The Alliance and Horde stands ready to assault Icecrown Citadel - home of the Lich King.
But suddenly the Forsaken emerges - and attacks everybody. They have been betrayers for the whole time.
The Royal Apothecary Society now led by High Apothecary Putress plagues down everyone - even the Lich King himself gets attacked.
The Lich King says "Sylvanas..." since he know that she wants revenge on him.

At the end of the battle, the Forsaken has won and the assualt has failed. Many died, both from the Alliance/Horde pact and the Scourge. Saurfangs soul is stolen by Frostmourne and Bolvar plagued to death.
The Red Dragon flight comes and sets a massive pyre on everyone so that the Scourge may not raise them as more undead.

6. After the Assualt
You are asked to bring Saurfangs battle armour to his father. The father says you need to report to Thrall in Orgrimmar.
Orgrimmar is changed when you arrive. Forsaken refugees are everywhere - Undercity has been captured by the Forsaken betrayers. Inside of the fortress city, first seen in Wc3: The Frozen Throne, there are empty buildings and shops.
The citizens are protesting - demanding to know what the hell is going on.

In Thralls chamber you find the Warchief himself and Sylvanas Windrunner. Turns out that there are two different sides of Forsaken. The ones led by Putress and the dreadlord Varimthas and the "good" ones led by Sylvanas.
Sylvanas is very hurt after the Undercity was captured and a bit destroyed. Jaina teleports in and speaks with Thrall.
She says something about the human king Varian Wrynn and that she does not want a conflict to start.
She then opens a portal to the Undercity for us.

6. Battle of the Undercity
The last battle takes place in the Forsakens own capital.
Varimtrash greats you at the gates and together with Thrall, his Kor'kron elite troops, Sylvanas and some Demolisher siege vehicles (if you play Alliance you get to see the Gnomish Battle-Planes and the Flying Machines >.>.

With the power of the elements at Thralls side you battle your way in. In the Royal Quarter and throne room, Varimthas is summoning demons through portals and communicates with his unknown master (likely Sargeras, Kil'Jaedan or Mephisroth).

You defeat him and close the portal, then Alliance horns sound.
King Varian and his royal Knights comes rushing in and with the death of the Alliance champion Bolvar Fordragon - he starts an official and real war against the Horde.
Thrall and the Horde doesnt want war - as the union/pact between the two superpowers is the key to defeating greater "villians" like the Burning Legion forces at the Sunwell, the Scourge in the Plaguelands and the Lich King in Northrend.

A battle is about to start when Jaina teleports in, freezes everybody and mass teleports back the Alliance to Stormwind.
Thrall and Jaina talks with each other. And all there years to remove the hatred between the Alliance and the Horde has been eradicated in a few minutes.

THE END

---------------------

This was an awesome big in-game event and quest chain which makes BCs story progression seem weak!
As a lore nerd, I just waited for Blizzard to screw up or retcon something but they didnt!
All this happens on a LARGE SCALE in-game and I missed to write a lot of stuff.

And if you play on a PvP server then its your own fault.
I regret making my priest on one for sure...

In a PvP server you accept the fact that there is a chance that you might get ganked in low levels - and gank others back in high levels

To some of you who don't like WoW

I think to really enjoy WoW you need live into it and have enjoyed the Warcraft series and lore. I know much of this has been butchered but with the "lasT" expansion they seem to have fixed this and finally seems to have put some love and lore into it.

Basicly I think it revolves about the player taking part of the univers and create his/hers own playing style and role in the huge world. I enjoy it, but I have also left it like 3-4 times and returned a couple of months later

No, its just me that cant spell it >.>

But I thought you said that the Demons were like insectoids in disguise? Or do they just behave like insects?
And that some developer said: "you dont want to know what Angels are" - which made me think they were like ancients in humanoid form or cyborgs lol.

Seriously, I thought Forge was a joke when I saw it the first time and my view of the HoMM universe collapsed (I liked it a lot, but it was before I found Warcraft 3)
I was chocked.

But you knew what I meant atleast, that Warcrafts "technology" is much less advanced then the Might & Magic universe.

I have actualy tried to play HoMM3 again and read the campaign but... its not a fun game in my opinion anymore and I would rather play WotLK ^^ Dont got much time for other stuff lol.

The Kreegans are not disguised as anything.  They do behave like insects, they aren't insectoids though.  The Ancients already appear in another Might and Magic game and they aren't angels.  What the angels are is unknown.  But there's no "cyborgs" in the universe either - at least that's not what they're called - only Guardians which I nicknamed cyborgs / androids to help non-MM players to understand the plot because that's what they act like.

The Forge faction was dropped from the story so it doesn't exist in the universe anymore, and never really did.  Even if it did, it would have been the first time Naga tanks or chainsaw Zombies would have appeared, since they weren't in any earlier games.  Using it as a basis against the story's quality or coherence is flawed, because it isn't in the story in the first place

Of course you don't like Heroes III as a game, it's ten years old already  But enough about this, after all we are in a Warcraft thread I guess

Good to know.

And those that complain about WoWs graphics.
Personally, I think its beautiful.
I will go and take some screenshots of Borean Tundra and the Dragonblight. Warsong Hold is awesome.

The reason for WoWs graphics is not that Blizzard is poor or wants kidz to play their game more then adults.
Its because all Warcraft games have looked like that. Play wc1, wc2 and wc3.
They all share a similar style with WoW.
Its also so that most computer can handle WoW without much problems, and I can have it one max settings except the shadows.
The shadows are awesome but makes you lag a lot if you have a computer like mine.

WoWs graphics is one of the things that has made it the king of MMO games.

Blizzard wanted to create two Warhammer games (sci-fi and fantasy). Gameworkshop (lol I dont remember the name) denied them. Blizzard created Warcraft and Starcraft then.
True story.

There is almost nothing similar to Warhammer anymore in War/Starcraft.

However very, very, VERY early in Wc3s production Night Elves were called Dark Elves. This was however rapidly changed and they are very different.

Personally im happy that the Warhammer guys denied Blizzard - otherwise Warcraft, Starcraft and likely even Diablo would not have existed today. Blizzard would not even be famous and would contiune to do Lost Vikings and Rock & Roll racing instead

But are you saying that portals and dimensional gateways are inspired by Warhammer?
I think not.
And I might be wrong about teleportation. I based it on the Shaman spell "Astral Recall" which description is like this:

"Yanks a caster through the twisting nether back to <Home>. Speak to an Innkeeper in a different place to change your home location."

There is however no other source of information of this so I might be wrong.

Actually I've heard from several people that all of that is just an urban myth... correct me if I'm wrong, I'll look into it myself now.
