Unable to take Screenshots in HOMM
Hi guys...
I wouldn't spent your time but i've searched almost anywhere in the web and i can't find a solution...
i need to take some screenshots of HOMM, ( the first game, the CD version for Windoes). Everytime i try to take a screenie with Fraps, Screen Capture Pro or many other utilities i get an image with strange\distorted colors...
CAN SOMEONE HELP ME!!!

Have you tried hitting Print Screen and pasting the captured screenshot into Paint?

Hmm.. so tell us more, what OS is the computer on? Give some details, please! Monitor size and type, video card info, did you try to take a screen shot while in windowed mode (f4) ?

I believe I know why the distorted colours appear. When you play Heroes I (assuming you're using XP), you're automatically forced to switch to 256-colour mode. That's why, in Paint, the pictures you take are also switched.
Every single one of Heroes I's graphical files uses an individual palette of 256 colours which gives them higher colourful quality. A brown image would use about 256 brown colours. When you paste your screen into Paint, the image is forced to use the universal 256 colours, and loses a lot of the different shades the different in-game graphics use.
(Hope I'm making sense here )
So to fix your problem: boot up Heroes I in 256 colour mode, Print-Screen your ingame image, close Heroes I, revert to the highest colour quality available in Control Panel, then paste your screenshot into Paint. Tested on XP - see if this works

YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
I found the solution guys!!!
Thanx Cepheus you've given me a lead to try something different...
What i've done was to change the resolution of my monitor to 8-bit with the help of the NVidia control panel. Since the game is working in 256 color it was ok. Windows Paint still doesn't work but my other capture programs do. I take my screenshots and then i swich back to 32bit to watch them...
Thanx guys and sorry for wasting your time...

I also encountered the same problem (I had to take many screenshot from the game; you'll soon see why), and I have a much simpler solution.
Try to run Heroes I in a window (not full-screen). Hit PrintScreen. Copy in Paint: all colors are good.

That doesn't do the trick, also i prefer to take multiple screens and not travel back and forth in paint...
thanx anyway...

Anyway, I don't think it has a big importance. Let's drink and screen.
