I'd rather have a $1000 computer than a $2000+ trip to France. But my parents are willing to pay for the latter but not the former, and I have very little money of my own, so France it is.
Bak:
Thanks for the advice.

Slavic beauty?
All:
The $2000 isn't my money - it's my parents' money. If they were to just give it to me in cash, I probably wouldn't spend it on a trip to France.

The $2000+ covers hotels, airplane fare, train fare, breakfast, and dinner. We have to take more money with us to tip guides and buy lunch and souvenirs. Plus it's a tour group, so it's not as good as it would be if we went by ourselves.

Yes they are
They actually want you to see the world. That is good. The experience may be good or bad but atleast you have experience. Other than sitting in front of computer, of course.
Btw, you could ask the french about how they have managed their healthcare system

They give me cash, certainly, but not any significant amount. Most of it (something over $1000) is sitting in my bank account anyway, because I'm saving up for a car. On the other hand, I'll probably go to a university that doesn't allow cars, so if that's the case, I'll buy a new computer.
And I'm 17.

God how I wish I had an extra 1000$ now for not going on a trip, if I were in your place
even if I were to donate it to charity.
EDIT: you guys are no fun. Yes you may get experience, but you'll probably also experience poverty for the next... I dunno 3 years? (at least in my place)

Screen too small... bad LCD quality (to consume few power) results in eye-strain, overheating unless put in special air-conditioned rooms, etc...

Good points, thing is, not everybody is the same. That might be the case for you, but i don't get any of those problems and many others don't get them either. Some may get some of what you mentioned. I bought a laptop the other day for two things: TAFE, which I'll be starting next week and for music on the go. They're incredibly useful, you gotta admit.

A laptop is for basic work like typing, editing, etc.Dont get it for games or hardcore things that need specs.Im so stupid that i bought laptop for that.A laptop of its size must have all those details from about 10x size block and more... and has to do same job, overheating isnt avoiding. However getting a small one like apple and just use it for college needs would be great(plus they cost about twice less)

I already have a laptop. Unfortunately, it's 5 years old (too old to be a good computer, too young for Doomforge ). It's slow and it overheats all the time. I do want a new laptop, but I'm not sure if I'm going to buy one, because I might spend that money on a car.
Plus, a laptop may be weaker and more expensive than a desktop, but it's better for college because it's more mobile.
