Star Trek - The Lost Continuity (OOC)
Space, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Duchess and its varied missions to seek out new life and civilizations; to do all sorts of grunt work for the Star Fleet and boldly go where no man has gone before.
This is to be an RPG that rather vaguely has something to do with Star Trek. Sure there will be the Klingons, the Vulcans, the Borg, the United Federation of Planets etc. But in a very non-canon "fanfiction" sort of way.
This is how the game plays:
I will be the dungeon master and I will play the Star Fleet (give you your missions) and most of the stuff that you guys encounter on your voyages.
You have been recruited to serve as the crew for the new Galaxy class starship: USS Duchess. You will now embark on various missions given to you by the Star Fleet.
It is very important to think your positions very well in the crew and working as a team. If alot of people want to be (in example) the commanding officer or the person who operates the tactical console and nobody wants to give in or compromise there might have to be multiple starships, but I would like to keep the starship amount at a mininum so please play nicely  .
Here is a bit of information on some example crew positions:
Commanding Officer: This person gives out commands to the crew and is generally responsible for the crew's well being (Thats alot of responsibility) and gets to sit on the cool seat in the middle of the bridge.
First Officer: The person next in command (and next in responsibility) to the commanding officer in command. The first officer will assume the commanding officer's position if the commanding officer is temporarily or permanently unable to perform his duties. The First Officer gets to stand around in the bridge near the captain.
Second Officer: The person next in command to the First Officer. Usually being the Second Officer is a side duty to something else.
Chief Engineer: The Chief Engineer is responsible for fixing lots of stuff like computers etc. and delivering technobabbles; mostly giving all sorts of reports about the ship's condition. The Chief Engineer sits at one of the front panels or at some of the other flashy computer thingies at the back of the bridge.
Chief of Security: Is responsible for the security within the ship and is also responsible for the security guards. Usually a side duty.
Tactical Officer: Responsible for operating the tactical console (firing the phasers, photon torpedoes, manouvering the ship etc.) . Gets to stand at the tactical console behind the Commanding Officer's seat in the bridge.
Chief Medical Officer: Responsible for the crew's health, treating all sorts of ailments & injuries, keeping the crew aware of possible hazards and delivering medical technobabbles.
Chief Science Officer: Responsible for analyzing things and delivering a huge quantity of technobabbles. Gets to sit somewhere at the bridge (whereever there is free space).
Chief Operating Officer: Responsible for most of the little yet important operations in the ship like communications, operating the ship's scanners, navigating etc. Gets to sit at the computers in the back of the bridge or at the other front panel. For convienience it is suggested that this is to be a secondary duty for the Science Officer or done by an NPC.

Description: (Race, Appearance, Age, some personality traits and anythign else that you can think of to put in here.)
Background: (The Character's background)

Yes, you could start by filling out the character sheet  .
As a for a few quick basics: Every RPG in here (most of them atleast) has an "Out of Character" (OOC) and an "In Character" (IC) or (RPG) thread.
In the Out of Character thread people discuss the stuff related to the game and the actual roleplaying happens in the In Character thread.
If you have roleplayed before I guess that you know the rest of the drill, but there are a few neat threads concerning the fine art of roleplaying floating about and I will link a few.

I think that I could start this thing with a bunch of NPC crew members so this RPG could start jumping to warp speed and then new players would replace the NPC characters with their own characters.

Position - Chief Engineer
Description -
 Half-Human, Half-Cardassian.
Born January 7, 2332 on New Amsterdam to Mansing Brikando (Cardassian) and Adria Ratmoore (human)
Age - 46
Almost rejected from the Academy due to foreign links
Left arm positronic prosthetic due to mining accident on Brakel IV where plasmic soucher grazed main nerves.
IQ of 189.
Background - Having lived on Mars for all his life, Idon Brikando has learned a lot about machinery and robotics over the years. His Starfleet Entrance Exam results put him well above average in quantum physics and interspace frequencies, but lacking in the protocol knowledge. Upon graduating the Academy, he was immediately placed upon the USS Achilles, then forced to transfer due to haphazard engineering procedures (hydrospanners apparantly don't work well with warp plasma). His new position is the Chief Engineer of the USS Duchess.

Crew Position: Chief Science Officer
Description: An android modeled after Data. Appears as a white guy somewhat younger than Data (i.e., around 30), and has more realistic skin. Cannot use contractions in speech. Speaks very mechanically. Lacks emotions, but tries to imitate humans.
Background: Created by Narien Larrel, a cyberneticist attempting to recreate the work of Noonien Soong (creator of Data). Joined Starfleet because that was Narien's dying wish.

I'd say the Chief Engineer never really has a "shift" more like a series of down times.

And, as an android programed with perfect protocol, I'd guess Beta has a history of unsuccessfully attempting to get Idon to use protocol more.

Great to see that more people hsve joined .
I guess that I'll be starting this RPG sometime and I will give unto you the character sheets for some of the (hopefully) soon to be replaced NPC crew members.
Name: Commander Lucas Barack King
Crew Position: 1st Offcer
Description: Samuel L. Jackson, but quite a bit younger.
Background: Born and raised in earth in a non descript city. Went to academy. Calm, intelligent and with alot of potential for leadership position. Now 1st officer of starship Duchess.
Okay. That was only one, but I'm feeling really lazy right now  . Feel free to help me with these NPCs if you want to.

Stardates are inconsistent and quite arbitary. Don't think about it too much.
This RPG takes place around the same time that The Next Generation took place, maybe a bit afterwards. If there is some new or different technology, I will make sure to tell you about it.
On a different matter, I may have misinterpeted Enamelity's post about Beta going to his quarters. I think he might have meant that Beta goes to his quarters after the whole speech thingy has been kept.
Edit: And yes, it is quite open for ideas.

I don't have time to join another RPG but I want to see this game succeed...so here are some NPCs for you lot to play with.
Name: T'kek
Race: Vulcan
Position: Apprentice bartender (or whatever the equivalent rank would be)
Backstory:
T'kek has found an unusual niche for a logical-minded Vulcan in his choice of career, but those same traits have made him oddly suited for it. His precision and sharp memory mean he never mis-mixes a drink, and once he learns a particular cocktail he never forgets it. This skill has lead some to joke that he can produce the same beverage down to the number of bubbles in it, but the flip side is that he is somewhat inflexible. T'kek only rarely experiments with new drinks (usually at goading from his mentor), and some find his tendancy to mix beverages so precisely (the EXACT same mix of ingredients in the EXACT quantities in the EXACT same manner EVERY SINGLE TIME) make his creations little different from ordering a drink from a replicator.
Name: Agora
Race: Betazoid
Position: Senior bartender (or equivalent)
Backstory:
T'kek's mentor; an outgoing, sympathetic woman with over ten years' experience tending bar and listening to songs of heartbreak sung by those drunk on their sorrows as much as their drinks. Just shy of middle age (she hasn't gone through The Phase yet), she is something of a maternal figure, especially to the younger members of the crew.
Name: Braz
Race: Ferengi
Position: Junior Engineer (o.e.)
Backstory:
Braz is very dedicated to his job, and would never knowingly do anything to interfere with the inner workings of the ship. Unfortunately for Braz he's a bit of a forgetful magpie. He has the terrible habit of picking up things--tools, components, it doesn't have to be valuable just small enough to hold in one hand and shiny--and unconsciously carrying them away and leaving them somewhere hidden. He rarely remembers seeing the item in question, and never remembers where he put it. (In other words, he's been surpressing the usual profit-at-any-cost mode for the Ferengi and it's...coming out in other ways. XD) Fortunately it's never anything vital to the ship, or something that will be immediately missed; nevertheless, more than one cleaning crew has come across small piles of wiring and glittery baubles hidden behind desks or in maintenance tubing, covered in dust and forgotten.

My this ship is weird. A Ferengi assistant to a half-Cardassian? Ha. that's gonna be interesting. Though I suppose that the two could have something in their mutual respect for one another. And yelling at him for misplacing hydrospanners would be fun.

What was that elevator thingy between the plate part and the lower part in the ship (battle part?)? Was it a warp elevator or super elevator or something like that?

It has been implied in the starting post of the OOC thread that the USS Duchess is a Galaxy class starship.
