Sorry for the wait, but I was off from work on Friday and Monday and tend to not stay hours on-line during week-ends...

OK, I read this Q this week end and had lots of time to think about it.

I decided I'd go back in time (with a bunch of equipment) to when the first Amino Acids linked to become a protein. I would like to study this, to know more about where the AA's came and how/when life first evolved on earth. I'd note the conditions under which it all happened, then what happened to that protein, maybe even how the AA's came to exist on earth.

It's too bad you said "in the world" as I would of picked the big bang! (or maybe simply when all the galaxies where in one place at one instance).

I'm not a scientist, but I find this sorta stuff highly interesting. I guess you know by now that history is not my interest, so I had to go scientific.

I didn't go to much detail, but I'm not sure what to add...

Anyways, my next question is to Léo:
How did you become "spiritual"? was it after reading The Celestine Prophecies? How has that book changed your life? What did you read before and after it?

I realize these are more than one question, but they are in the same train of thought.

Oooooooooh! Good question, Conan! I am eagerly awaiting this one...popcorn in hand!

*munch...munch...munch, sitting on the edge of my seat*

Oh wait! I have to answer this myself...
*falls off chair*
My spiritual journey began back in Grade 10, when my buddy Dan Blais introduced me to The Celestine Prophecy. Looking back now, I can see how everything was set in motion just the way it was "meant to be". You see, my buddy Dan and I hadn't really spoken for the last few years that we knew each other because he started hanging around with another crowd after we left middle-school and went on to high-school. Even though we were still in the same school, we were just polite with each other and didn't usually talk that much.

That's why when he came to me and started telling me about this book on a daily basis, I was very curious to see what had changed within him. So, I read the book, loved it, and learned a few things along the way. For the next few years I started looking for "energy" all around me and started recognizing people who fit certain categories. After reading the Tenth Insight (follow up to "Celestine Prophecy") I adjusted my behavior to focus on "being happy" and distanced myself from people who were too negative.

Around this time, my father introduced me to Conversations with God, but it took me 1 year to finally get to reading it because I got into Celestine Vision. Once I did though, my life changed even more than it had after reading The "Celestine" books. After reading the 1st Conversations with God, I knew that my whole life had led me to that moment of realization of who I am. And now that I have been to that point, I can never go back & it feels great!
+++My question is for Asmodean:
How have you been doing these last 4 - 5 months, since I've joined HC? How do you feel? Is your life going in the direction that you want it to...do you even have a "5 year plan"?!

In the last 4-5 months I've been getting used to life in Manchester.
It's very different from my hometown of Belfast, Ireland. Things are a bit faster paced and I live right in the city centre, compared to the suburbs of Belfast, so I'm right at the heart of things.

I live directly on campus, so on those mornings that I actually go to lectures I can literally wake up 20 minutes before class, have a quick shower and still be on time(ish)

Is my life going good? Well it's going for sure. The course is incredibly intense, and whereas I used to breeze through exams and assignments in high school I'm finding that university really does take you to the next level of education, making you research loads of things just so you can write a few paragraphs in you 2000 word case study!! (not an exaggeration!!)

I'm also working part time in a bar, which I've never done before.
I mean, I've had lots of bar experience, but usually from the Other side of the bar
I'm finding it tiring though, and it can mess with my sleeping pattern so I may look for a different job soon.

I've also met a nice guy over here that I've been going out with for just over 5 months now, and I still find it fun to hang out with him one-on-one and just chat about stuff, so on that front things are going great.

Is my life going in the direction I want it to? In general yes. In specific -NO!
If it was going the way I wanted it to I'd be signing a million pound record deal with Sony about now, but sadly that's a bit further on the horizon because I haven't been able to start/find a band that I can properly mesh with to make a proper go of it.

A 5 year plan? Well in my dreams, in 5 years you'll be buying, or maybe illegally downloading my songs and albums (of which all were 5x platinum selling) and I'd be starring in my first movie which would be a mega-hit and make teenage girls cry at night because I'm forever out of their reach

But in all seriousness, In 5 years time I'll hopefully be working on a graduate program with either a pharmaceutical or genetics company, hopefully pioneering a cure for disease or stem cell research or other exciting things (well, exciting to me at least).

I also want to own my own house, or at least be paying my mortgage off. It'll have at least 3 bedrooms, a tropical greenhouse where I can keep exotic lizards and a basement recording studio, where I can spend my time trying to crack the music industry before I reach 30 (only 6 years away!! The terror!!)

Anyways, hope that gave you a better insight into the phenomenon that is Asmodean, thanks for asking.

My next question is for Real Deal - how's the fitness programme coming along?

Industry doesn't have graduate programs.  If you want a graduate program, you have to be at a university.  Besides, industry research is boring, repetitive and derivative.

Hmm

Perhaps companies will look toward more ascertive approaches now that stem cell research is indirectly approved of in the U.K.. They refused to sign that recent international law banning stem cell research. Perhaps this move will encourage companies to offer the graduate programs for U.K. subjects.

just a thought...

Very rarely. Once a month, maybe less. Though the combination of food that I put in me could be considered junkish under some standards.

Question for bort: Why is it that you dont put a pic of you in the RL pics thread?

Some pages ago Consis asked me this question, so I think i will lob it right back at him

Quote:
In your fictional written(typed) stories, do you have any personal guidelines on how far a love scene should go and be illustrated? What I mean to say is, do you write a very nondescript story online for the chat forum 'cybergeeks' but then secretly turn away from the computer and go all the way to last detail with pen and paper?(secretly stashing your adult material in a locked desk drawer for your eyes only)

Your turn Consis, and remember tell the Truth, the WHOLE truth and nuthin' but da truth

No.

First taker:

Describe an occasion when you either :
a.  were caught cheating (by the person you were cheating on)
or
b.  caught someone cheating on you.

(cheating in the scarlet A sense, not dealing from the bottom of the deck type of cheating)

If nobody answers by, say March 26th, to the first taker:
Coke or Pepsi?

I still think its your turn.

Well jeez, you should have been more specific in your question then.  One reason is professional, when people google my real name, I want them to see my publications and awards, not my town proposals (Just so all of you know, some employers do google your name before interviewing you just to see if they can find out anything about you.  In a profession as small and quite frankly as inbred as mine, this can be a real problem).  Another is personal.  I don't want my mom going through my posts and going "so, did middle aged women really proposition you in high school?"  "No ma, it was just a fictional story.  Well, once, but that was kinda weird."  Finally, it's simple cost benefit analysis.  What do I gain by putting up personal information about myself?  Nothing.  However, there is the potential risk, albeit small, of picking up a  stalker or other internet freak.  (Before anybody gets all up in arms and snow like that, I'm not accusing any HC members of being a stalker.).  In other words : benefit from posting personal info : none.  Risk : extremely small, but greater than none.

Satisfied?

Well...

Well bort we all have a right to our own privacy. I guess I shouldn't press you for it if that's your wish.

I think it's obvious what kind of person I am. I've been this way my whole life; just like my father. He's the kind of guy who's been in trouble for all kinds of things. He's not too smart and neither am I. I'm the only person I know how to be. I respect your wishes and all. As if it wasn't already obvious, I was looking to be your friend. I haven't got anyone I hang out with anymore. I haven't got any relatives that I spend time with either. They all live in Texas. I'm just lonely you know what I mean? After seeing all the great minor details you've written about yourself, I can't say I know you at all. Maybe I was simply looking in the wrong direction. You're right about the internet. You never can tell. I just have to accept that. It's just that I've never been an internet chat person before. Not being able to reach out and touch the person you're talking to, can be hard on a person like me. I hug my friends, both guys and girls. That's just the way I am. I guess I like to try and make friends where ever I go. This is the new home I've come to; what with being a stay-at-home parent and all. Sometimes I look forward to when my kids grow up and I won't be confined to talking with people whom I can't see or touch. But for now I'll cope with it. It's all I've got if you know what I mean.

I meant no offense being so intrusive. As a fellow grown man, I can definitely understand the need.

Another day at HC.....

Thanks Leo_Lion

I don't think of those(IM/email) as being very dependable. You can send but never really know if the person received. Also, bort has stated that he is quite weary of internet person's motives(afraid of stalkers). Posting it rather than (email/IM)-ing it is like meeting at a public restaurant in the open rather than making a phone call or writing a letter. Some people feel more comfortable in an open public places. If something uncomfortable happens or is said then there are many bystander people to witness and testify to it.

I normally don't go to such lengths at thinking through an attempted friendship but bort seems a bit sensitive on this subject. He may or may not have had something bad happen to him in the past regarding this very same issue. I think it's best error on the side of sensitivity.

Interloping

Another extremely detailed and candid post by Consis!

I gotta tell you, you and bort are about as opposite on this subject as two people could be.  Where you are extremely personal, forthright and revealing, bort tends to hold this place at arms length.

I can sympathize with your reaching out to bort, though, Consis.  There are a few people I have always most liked and admired in HC and bort is right at the top of the list.  It's hard not to admire him (for me at least) and when somebody like me admires somebody I always want to make friends with them, learn more and get to know them better.  I always sorta wanted to do that with bort, but he definitely maintains his distance.

And of all the people that it distresses me to tick off or upset, again -- at the top of the list is bort.  And I have done so, several times.  I don't quite understnad why this distresses me but it does.  Usually I don't give a whip about people getting ticked at me because I think of myself as a consistently reasonable person, and if somebody doesn't like something I do I figure they're just overreacting.  But for some reason with bort it's different.  It does matter.

On the other hand, bort, I should say that I can understand why you keep your distance.  Within a matter of weeks upon joining this board, I had a total nutcase after me sending me really nasty (I mean filthy) insulting and threatening e-mails.  And word had it he lives here in my town.  Remember FOT?  Man, what a trip that dude was.  It definitely put me on guard.  Haven't had anything like that happen since though.  But I'll say it took me a while before I felt comfortable revealing personal information, even to people I befriended on the side, and while I do talk about personal details on the board, I still do not reveal my name and probably never will.

On the other hand, bort, I have observed you coming out of your shell a bit more lately, I think because this place slowed down so much that you maybe didn't have must better to do.  Participating in this thread is an example. I must say it's refreshing to see.  Personally I think it's cool.

I hope it's okay us yapping on like this about you, man.  But take it as a compliment,  We are clearly fascinated with you.

Anyways, thanks for letting me spew you guys.
