Necro Bone Dragons are much easier to get, they are a lot easier to buy too. And their stats are really ok. The next reason why Necro is the really OP are Vampires - you really kill everything much easier. Last and most important - Skeletons have a really nice stats and they come from every battle.
As for Warlock - you need resources for army, a lot more money for Dragons and a lot mush resources for magic guild levels. If you develop a Warlock - you find it lacking Attack/Defense. A neckro hero gets some def.
Well, i place Warlocks in the fair teams - Barbarian, Wizard, Sorc and Warlock are ok - they have some + and -

I actually liked Knights. Champions are extremely fast, allowing you cast spells before the enemy does (unless you are attacking a Hero with Phoenixes in his Army). Hasten your Rangers and let them obliterate enemy Shooters before they more. Master Swordsmen rock. Paladin's are Necro's Bane. They start with Leadership and Ballistics, which means no trouble from Arrow Towers and acting more often.
As for Magic, typically Haste, Slow and Ressurrection.

You even act before Fenix with Champions, because you attacked.
Development with Knight is very difficult, before you have those things you need means to get them - there the Knight lacks. This new unofficial path that is mentioned some post ago is very interesting in regards of fairness.

Get a good warlock with geddon and some dragons to soften the final battle. Very nice way to counter necro if you get lucky enough with spell towers.

No argue - Warlock has it's strengths.
I'm not asking for a clue how to beat Necro with Warlock - thanks anyway.
I'm pointing to the stats and price on the Bone Dragon and the Skeleton units, as well as the special skill of the Vampire.

I dont know proper Diplomacy formula in homm2 but i assume that its different than homm3 one. If someone knows it and would post it here then it would make things much easier.
I made long time ago an excell table that allows to compute exactly the monsters that can be hired by diplomacy skill (depending on army strenght). Of course they can join for free but they will never refuse or flee if you have army srenght and money.
If there are questions I can answer here without problem.

Vampire lord is very strong in mid game. Just cast steel skin on them and U can win without loss.

Well, there's a time limit to host the file in those free hosting sites. If someone wants the table I can send by email without problem. Or maybe there is a way to host the file somewhere for a large period of time?

Black Dragons OP? Dont think so..
I dont know about you guys, but I use to make my own maps and play multiplayer with friends and computers at det impossible level. I've done this for about 7 years and I know pretty well everything about the different Towns and the strenghts they got.
I notice that most people fancy Warlock in long games because of the black dragon. That's a really big mistake. Black Dragon's permanent antimagic is rather bad then good. They can't resurrect themselves!! What can they do if they face Titans with good spellpower/knowledge, Dragonslayer and resurrect true? Nothing. And even worse, what if they face Necro with zounds of skeleton, with animate dead, Dragonslayer, 3 double resurrect-artifacts and a decent hero.. The black Dragon is slaughted only by skeletons. Once I faced lots of Black Dragon with just skeletons and animate dead. I didnt lose a Skeleton, infact, I earned 7 more with the necro-skill!
I prepher Titans/resurrect true, but I have to admit, if you got skills in this game and get it right with Necro, you'll be invincible.

Don't get into the "what if" game because it will never end.
Assume the warlock had Armeggedon and a very high sp and your skeletons would be taking severe damage.
Assume.....
And so forth.

asuming..
Well. Armageddon takes 50 hp per spell power. Say you got 20 spell power. That's 1000 hp. Again, 1000 hp is like 250 skeletons. If you're good you'll easily get past 1500 skeletons pretty quick(necroskill expert+) by collecting tressurechests and artifacts. Just fight of a horde of peasents regulary. Black Dragon/Armageddon can't cope with the growth of skeletons. When you find animate dead, you'll be invincible. That's a fact. 1 knowledge = 1 animate dead. Bloody cheap to.
Black Dragons/Armageddon vs Titans/resurrect true is also one way traffic. Let's say you're lucky enough to get 20 spell power with warlock and the army is black dragons/armageddon. One shot of armageddon = 3 titans + 100 hp. You'll resurrect that with just one resurrect true. You can also use other sorts of spells like dragonslayer, stoneskin, bless etc.. Armageddon = 20 mana. Resurrect true = 15 mana. Warlock is out of spell before wizard and Titan has won the battle by far.
Im not saying that Black Dragon is worthless, but they're not OP. Even Crusader/dragonslayer can cope with them sometimes.

I'm just pointing out one way to use Warlock and why I liked them.
I remember playing the campaigns and you can win easily if you choose to keep the army you collected over chasing for the artifact. Take that army and give Archie/Roland just the blacks and the rest to the other heroes. With just the blacks you can go and take out the other 3 factions with no losses. Accumulate all your monsters and smash at the end.
Dragons also beat titans 1 vs. 1 with no other hero stats/spells.

Yes, of course. I'm not saying that Black Dragons/armageddon is a bad strategy.. What I'm saying is that when you're at the point of having Blacs/armageddon, you usually have the opportunity to use Titans/resurrect true and 1500-2000 skeletons/animate dead. Therefor, BD/Armageddon is not the "ultimate" strategy. I find BD/hydra/teleport often more threatning.
I havn't tried campaign for many years now so I really dont know much about that. I can't see the point of playing campaign.
Yes, Blacks > Titans without spells, but that's a none-scenario. I wouldn't use just Titans anyway. Never underestimate Dragonslayer. It's highly effective against Blacks. Heroes 2 is truly the most balanced version of HOMM.

I play enough H3 to get my fix and don't need to waste more time on computer games.
I will say H3 > H2 for my money tho.

I'd try i-net buy if i wanted HoMM2. Still not giving slavers money to have a product, that wouldn't be there if not for all of us, is ok in my book. There is nothing original after all.

Whoever said to leave hydras in your castle was plain wrong. Sure, late in the game they're not that useful, but early to mid, they're awesome, here's why:
You see, I love ranged units, and after years of using ranged units, I developed a deep hatred for flying wandering monsters, because anytime I get into a fight with them, they always attack my ranged units. So, sometimes last year I developed this little trick to deal with them: I hire a barbarian, give him all my hydras and just send him on a marauding trip, getting into fight with any flying monsters he encounters.
And every single fights end up being the same: All the flying units swarm around my hydras, my hydras tank a full round of damage, which they survive thanks to their high hit points and defense, and when it's my turn, I cast a little bless spell and I attack all 5 units at once. Next round starts, they attack my hydras and it counter attacks on all 5 units once more... rinse and repeat until all enemies are down.
Sure, it's completely useless against ranged monsters or other heroes, but they're good at efficiently killing flying or walking monsters and particularly those damn ghosts that haunt gold mines and sunken ships. That trick works in HOMM1 too, as if Warlock weren't overpowered enough in that game.
