Mutations
The title says everything. Let's speak about mutations.
Forget about Marvel comics. I speak about real mutations, in real life.
There are many people, who are different from ordinary people. People call them 'mutants'. But are they still humans? Of course yes, they are same people as ordinary people, but... erm... 'ill'. So what's the problem? Ordinary people don't like those who are different from them. Why? Perhaps it's instinct. I don't say that they hunt mutants or something, but still, they don't like them and often act contemptuously towards them.
Come on, people! They are not spawns or monsters. They are humans as you are. Why do people judge others by appearance? And mutants are not guilty in that. They have to suffer this 'discrimination' only because of accidents and sins of their parents.
Most of mutations appear because of mutagen substanses or radiation rays. People, affected by mutagen usually don't suffer changes. But it affects their genes, no their children can born as mutants. Most usual mutagen in our days is nicotine and some other substances included in drugs and alchohol. Morale: don't smoke, don't take drugs and alchohol or you may become in a great responsibility towards your children.
So what was the matter of this thread? I want to know what does HC think about mutations and mutants. What are your opinions? Maybe you know somebody mutant or even you are mutant yourself? Let's talk about it here.
As for me, some of you may know, some not, anyway I'll tell. Yes, I am mutant. But for those of you who think that I am a monster, I have to dissapoint them. I don't have any tentacles, addition arms, wings or something. My mutation only caused an additional phalanx in my big finger of right hand. Yes, I have more bones than any of you. I'm telling that because I don't want to hide it. I don't think it's something I really need to hide. How I became mutant I can't say exactly. Most probably it is a result of the thing that my parents were smoking.
So, let's speak about mutants here.

I totally agree, why they need to be called mutants, when they simply try to get to the 'normal' society. They din't made any bad things, their parents made that (because of smoking, drugs, alchool etc..).I sustain that the 'mutants' are humans.
Well,I have a friend, one of his arms is visibly bigger than the other and a finger is too small compared to the others.Lucky for him is that he has good friends which do not tell him "ahh, look there,A MONSTER,RUN!RUN!"

It seems that your friend's mutation is worse than mine. I never was bothered of mine. And I also don't think that it is not comfortable. No, it's even useful in some cases.
But still people don't like mutants. Even they don't run from me, but still they feel pity or contemptuously towards me, I see it. But I'm happy with my mutation. As I said it doesn't bother me, even gives some advantages. That's why I refused offer of making operation.

About my friend, that's true .But as you said here are also some advantages.I haven't see too much for now,but I'm sure that about hasn't too happen this,he wasn't so good at heart and a true friend
About the 2nd paragraph I can say only a thing - You have a great character and personality.Respect
Ok,you told me about you mutation that is not worse than my friend's one,but what's exactly your mutation?

I told it already. My big finger on right hand has an additional phalanx. So my finger looks... erm... hooked. But actually it's an additional phalanx.

Everybody is a mutant. So I don't quite get what you want to discuss...

Perhaps everybody is. But I'm talking about those who are quite different from other people. People like me, with something weird in their appearance.
Please, don't kill this thread.

Ok, you have a weird finger. I have a strange shaped toe bone. I'm not sure I'd consider myself a "mutant".
And by the way, since when does asking a question constitute killing a thread?

Here is how does it approximately look. I know that picture is weird, but anyway. (The mutant phalanx is colored in red)
@Corribus: your toe bone may be a physical defect you got in life. But if you have it from birth it is most probably mutation. Even if it is mutation, it's so small, that you don't consider yourself as a mutant. I speak about much more visible mutations. I guess you don't see people with finger like mine every day.

Actually, my toe is quite strange looking and is noticeable if I don't have a shoe on. Comes out a very weird angle, and the bone is malformed. I was born with it. My thumbs are also a little strange (short and stubby)... but I found someone else who has the same ones so now I'm cool with them!
The reason I don't consider myself a mutant is because I realize that everybody has things that make them different. That's part of genetic diversity. Plus, I just don't consider it a big deal. Maybe if I had a 2nd head or something, but I think there are people out there with much crazier and difficult-to-live-with manifestations of genetic mutation than a crooked toe or a little extra bone in a finger. I mean, I don't think your bone makes you THAT much of a freak.

Well, I don't say that I am a freak or a monster. I even don't call myself mutant. And it's not very noticable because I often keep my hand in pocket. But still, even a small difference and people will take you as a mutant.
And I guess that if people will see your toe they would have same feelings as those towards me. But as I said I don't consider myslef as a monster.
But this thread not only about people with little mutations like me or you. I also devoted it for people with terrible mutations like handlessness or huge head (The are really people like that. Drugs take their harvest)

I have a deformed thumb bone as well with an extra joint. Though bending it backwards can freak them out a little, nobody calls me a mutant.

That's exactly my situation. Nobody will call me a mutant, but it is mutation, don't you agree?

Getting away from the term mutant I do have an unusual dental condition. It doesn't impact the view of others but I do spend an uncommon amount of time at the dentist getting things fixed.

For want of a better term for it, I guess so, but it would probably be classed as one of the most minor mutations possible. I'm not about to turn into Melchiah.

I agree, that's very minor mutation. But I'm really happy with it at least because it makes me somehow unique.

Being unique is really nice, and it's good that you like being unique, but as I said in my posts here, this "uniqueness" depends of how people think it is (mutant or not)

I think mutants only apply if they are in your genetics, right? For example someone who replaces his finger with an artificial different finger (if possible) is not a mutant in my book.
I'm pretty sure this is not a mutation or anything but my left eye is much better than my right. I'm also weird in the sense that I mostly use my left hand for that reason (eye coordination probably, like when I use my camera through the viewfinder, etc...), but am right-handed when it comes to writing and moving the mouse and such. Even my glasses don't help my right eye enough to be similar to the left in vision. (btw for all you Harry Poter freaks, sorry to disappoint you, but with my glasses on I look very much like Gordon Freeman from Half-life, not Harry Poter )
No I'm pretty sure again, this isn't a mutation, just wanted to mention it.

My index, middle and ring fingers can bend the other way more than those of an average person's. I've heard it's because of some small bone that's missing, but I never bothered to research the subject. I just think it's pretty cool, I don't need the technical nonsense.
