Heroes 3 Music
Hi Guys
Don't you just love the music from heroes 3? I was wondering, does anyone know if there exists a higher quality sound package? The only Mp3's I have are 128kbps bit rate.
I would love to have them at 172 kilobit quality
Best Regards

Sorry, can't help you. But the music is just great. The only thing (imo) in Heroes 4 that is greater then Heroes 3 is the music. If you liked H3 music - you may also like H4 music.
p.s. I like Necropolis theme the most.

Hi!, I think you mean to say, an mp3 bitrate of 192. I don't mean to be cocky, but I needed to reply to a thread (first post), in order to post a new thread here at "Heroes Community".

I can understand your request considering MP3 is the most lossy digital audio encoding format.
Well, I think The Berlin Philharmonic shall perform H3 music. I don't know about you but I would go there even if I miss Beethoven's 5th Symphony orchestrated by Herbert von Karajan who might have risen from the grave.

What file format did 'Heroes II' use?. I just ordered 'Heroes IV Complete' through 'eBay', so I'll be able to use that. What about music from 'The Lord of the Rings'?, or, a similar soundtrack, that blends in well with the rest of 'HoMMIII' music.

I looked into it, 'Heroes II' uses the 'midi' file format. You need a program like 'Audacity' or 'GoldWave', open, then save the 'midi' file as 'wave'. When that's done, using 'LAME' or LameFE, convert the 'wave' to 'mp3'.
Tip: Download the 'LAME codec' & place it in the 'GoldWave' directory, (while it's closed.) You'll then be able to save wave files as mp3, whithin 'GoldWave' itself. The same goes for Audacity I believe, (correct me if I'm wrong.)
Audacity
http://audacity.sourceforge.net
GoldWave
http://www.goldwave.com
LAME Codec
http://www.free-codecs.com/Lame_Encoder_download.htm
LameFE (Front-End GUI)
download.cnet.com/LameFE/3000-2140_4-10192303.html
Taken from the GoldWave FAQ...
Does GoldWave support MIDI files?
GoldWave is a digital audio editor, but most MIDI files do not contain any digital audio. They are like sheet music. They only have information about how to play music and not the music itself. Essentially, they contain a set of instructions that determine what instrument should be played, the pitch it should be played at, and when and how long it should be played. The audio for each instrument is actually stored in your sound card hardware or synthesized by the computer, which means that MIDI files do not need to hold any audio at all. While MIDI files cannot be converted directly to digital audio, they can be translated indirectly by MIDI players and by some MIDI programs. You can play the file in Windows Media Player and record the sound output in GoldWave.

H3 music being performed? Where, when, how?! Could you give a link?

Heroes 2 also uses CD Digital (Redbook) audio music. If you want an example of the various town themes from the Heroes series, I can recommend a certain Youtube Playlist
I'm actually working on (eventually) putting up the entire soundtrack to each game.

Thanks for the videos Shyranis, they give me a nice glimpse at Heroes IV.
HoMMIII has a much darker feel to it, compared to HoMMIV (town wise.)

It sounded too good to be true anyway. But still I can dream, right? That in some parallel universe, in some star system akin to ours, some philarmonic orchestra might be playing the Heroes 3 music. They bloody well should! I have played countless games, noticed countless good pieces of music; but in no game other than Heroes 3 was the soundtrack so complete and flawless.
For some close competitors, see Baldur's Gate II, Arcanum, Stronghold, Starcraft (Terran only), Emperor Battle for Dune and Medal of Honor 1. Some of the games aren't really that good; but their music is.

The music of the 'Medal of Honor' series, by Michael Giacchino is great!, but what about Nobuo Uematsu's 'Final Fantasy' music?.

About the quality problem: you could just copy the sound from the music folder in H3, it doesn't get much better than that.
Portal and Mass Effect has quite good,, 'specially portal.
