Multiplayer Network mod?

If anyone knows I was wondering what the newest improvements are for LAN games, if any.

I was hoping maybe someone has made it possible to treat "Human or Computer players" as "Human only" players instead, like the setting available in the map editor. Right now each computer on a network is treated as 1 human player. But my friends and I would like a way to be able to hold hot seat-like team games over the LAN, so that two people can play two different allied colors on one computer. Essentially we want, for example, only two PC's hooked up to a router but have 4 Human players.

If anyone knows any cool mods for multiplayer, even if they're not related to this, I'm just curious to check them out if they're out there.

Another way we could get around this problem is if we could open two HoMM games at once, but we can't and just get a "This program is already running" message. Maybe the good people at VCMI could do this? If this hasn't happened, it's my suggestion. A wish for future HoMM multiplayer.
