not everyone's against you, Bro... I'm a God person too. I just chose not to use points taken from that part of my viewpoint to "argue" my case because fewer people see that belief system as holding validity... you took the tougher stance and I applaud you for it.

The original post asked for our opinions, and for us to explain why we felt that way, right? People are going to have different opinions, right? Even people who like each other. I mostly agree with what RMS has said, in case that wasn't clear.
I also feel that people who think their arguments are week, tend to talk louder, make fun, put down, etc. That is why I am so glad Hexa and Gimmickless returned to post reasonable arguments. I realize sometimes something can upset you enough that you may lash out at first, but if you can come back from that to make your point clear, I respect you even more.
Opinions are by definition difficult, if not impossible, to prove, so how can one's opinion be stupid if it can not be proven to be wrong. History has shown that "stupid" ideas have been true, while the comonly accepted fact has been wrong.
I guess the reason I am talking more about the debate than what is debated, is I really have nothing more to say than RMS and others have said.
What would be really interesting would be for Hexa and Gimmickless to take the side that is was wrong, against RMS and Icedragon saying it was right Of course that wouldn't work cuz people wouldn't all read the whole thread, and might think it showed how they truly felt.

Oooooooh...
That could be very interesting, Tristan. Great idea. I'm fairly sure I could defend a faith that I do not hold to, but I'm used to arguing on the basis of ideals in the first place. However, there would have to be a clarification of whether it would be the Christian "party line" and of which party in the first place. After all, there is an extreme between Jesse Helms and Marge Simpson, yet both strongly believe in God. Of course, RMS, Icedragon, and/or anyone else that is normally pro-Christian would also have to choose a position of whether they are atheists, neopagans, polytheists, chaos magicians.....you get the idea. I'd be up for it if I knew what position I'd need to take.
And I should have said this a lot earlier... I know first-hand how hard it is to justify a belief (or lack of it). And for that, RMS, I commend you for defending your position, for as long as you have. Justifying your faith is not easy against anyone who does not share it, and it can get worse when you don't seem to have anyone else on your side. It's especially hard when you argue against someone who used to support your position and later forsook(sp?) it. I hope neither of us were unnecessarily hard on you. And for that matter, I hope to have another theological discussion with you at a later time.
In the meantime...keep the faith.

...life is neither a game, nor does God play dice with the world, but I admit that this has been a bit...er, intriguing if you will, if not also extremely time consuming
...however, unless it seems utterly hopeless, I'll continue to argue my point until it is accepted if still disaproved...although less often the case when with my peers, online or in real life, away from my certain groups of friends, I'm usually the cast out...well, sometimes I'm included but not exactly a very active member, especially since in where I live, it seems that although I have different relations with different kinds of people, I am still a member of the minority view, if not also influenced by the fact that I'm a member of an ehtnic minority as well.
...when I feel like it, there are variant paths of views that I can on the basic foundation of my beliefs, depending on how I feel that day, and how my thoughts are temporarily altered by what others have already previously said...
...I'm not big into psychology but as far as philosophy goes, as long as there's the topic is not a close kin to any religious topic or ventures off in that direction, I can hold a different opinion or slightly different opinion than I would usually hold, portraying myself...however, since a good debater has some idea of what kinds of arguments to expect from the other side, I can sometimes present and weakly defend a view that I don't necessarily agree with...so long as I'm not totally repulsed by the very idea.
...I'm not sure why this is the case, but it seems that wherever I go, there's usually at least one or two other people who may agree to me at leaset most of the way, but usually I'm the one backing up that view against a stronger opposition, and the others kind of sink into the background until I'm basically through
Dunno why that is, but I just felt like pointing it out
...so are we still going to dweel on thsi topic? ...because frankly, I'm getting a bit tired of saying the same things over and over, in different fashions

Sorry RMS, wasn't trying to make you work any harder than you have been. I think the point I was making is that if you believe in GOD, and that every word of the Bible is true, (as I do for what that is worth) what this boy did was wrong, and those that helped him were wrong as well. However, if you believe that once we die, it is all over, how can there be anything wrong with it?
Of course, most people's beliefs are somewhere in the middle. Some believe we only have this life, but are not quite sure, where others believe in other gods, other holy books, and what have you.
I respect those who adhere to their beliefs in the face of opposition, no matter where they fall, but if mine turns out to be correct, my respect will not help them either.
In summary, unless there is a new opinion or new people intellegently discussing this, we should probably just let it lie. Of course, if something else is written here I that I have thoughts about, I will probably not be able to keep quiet either.

Oh boy..
I just read this thread, and i couldn't get this out of my mind. First i thought "Why won't they give him his last request? It is fair." But as i thought about, it would be a dumb request. Now you may be thinking "Sex? A Dum request? where is this kid from?" I'm a big fan of it, but still. You could meet whoever you wanted, or, you could haev sex, which wouldnt last long for him(well, he's never done it before, and he has like no strenght)
Then i thought about it again(now i'm on my bed watching some funny tv shows) And it struck me, how i would feel if i was in his sitiuation(i've been dead before) 2 weeks.. 2 weeks. 2 weeks are like no time at all, take sleeping eating crapping time away and you've got nothing. You can say what you want, but it's true.
Later on i thought about it again, but now it was those "what if it was you thoughts" again, and they really burned into my skull. What would i wish? Would i do the same?
I wouldn't do the same. But here's my dilemma, i would really have a tough time dealing with the 2 weeks, and if i really felt bad enough, because you don't have friends or anything, i might have wished to be killed, instead of just waiting to die. But then again, wishing for suicide is also dumb, because maybe you should go do what u've always wanted now you've got the chance.
But there opens another dilemma! If what he wanted was sex, and that was that, shouldn't he be granted this actually very small wish?
I'f tommorrow the docters told me that i had 2 weeks to live in(nomatter the reason, be what ever disease it should be) i Know what i would wish for.. a Few of my favorit bands comming to play for me and my friends, but then again, that might be ridicioulus in someone elses eyes.
I really would like to reopen this thread, because i think i want to hear someone elses opinion and maybe start a discussion about it, so far i've read alot of old threads, and this is the Best thread i've read so far, because it really makes you think..
Regards Christian.

I am warning all of you Cybergeeks right now...do not, I repeat, DO NOT even think about faking cancer or some other incurable disease in order to get laid! Just put the thought out of your little heads and go back to reading your Dune novels or C++ For Dummies.

I'm sorry to dissapoint, but I read Dune a long time ago, believe before you even scored... so back off... You see, looking like an athletic type is not always the way. It is when the girl only wants to get laid( also a girl of this type is very very stupid, with no life knowledge whatsoever), but for me... I only seek a smart girl, that will understand my philosophical ways..
