Poll Question:
TownSitting?? .... Do you?? ....Will You?? .....

I realize this is an old arguement but wanted to get some feedback and opinions on this.

Now keep in mind, my questions and feedback request is Mainly directed at the Higherranked more experienced players... but opinions from everyone is cool to. The reason I am wanting to hear more from the higherranked players is simple.  The higher ranked you are.. the more skill you should be..

MY BIGGEST weakness in this game, is my lack of ability to judge charcter of my opponent. Mainly the opponents I dont play on a regular basis. And thusly, I tend to assume to many things.. and they cause me to lose games that I normally could win.

I have played 232 Heroes 5 games.. And in that time, I think I can only remember a couple times that someone has resorted to the cheesy townsitting tactic.  In my mind, if you HAVE to resort to Townsitting in the first place.... then you obviously played bad enough that you dont deserve to win anyways.. so why not just accept the loss with your integrity and honor intact, instead of take advanatage of a weakness in game and exploit it to steal a win you dont deserve?  I mean come on!! You we likely just invested 10-12+ hours in a hard fought fun game, leading up to an epic final battle, and then you just COWER and hid in town, just so you can click the " Win" button with no serious challange or final battle??

Is that what TOH, and Heroes 5 has been reduced to. With all the depth this game has to offer, and all the talent in TOH... dont you think we could expect higher quality games outta the higherranked players?

Is clicking the win button truely the ONLY reason some of you players are here? Now granted I am very very OLD school.. I have been in TOH since the beginning.. I registered #4 and back in the beginning.. Not only winning was important, but even more so.. was being ABLE to win AND doing do with honorable tactics was even more kewl. Sure there have always been those players that can only win games with Hit and run and townsitting etc etc. But those were usually the lower ranked players that was trying to make up for the fact they couldnt win the standard normal way.. Those were tactics that gave the illusion of abiltiy to beat a better player. Wow we stole a game from the Top ranked player.. But I never understood, how getting wins like that gave any pride or value to the win. Cause it was not your player ability or skill that achieved it.. it was simply abusing and exploiteing design flaws and weakness in game. In which case we need 2 seperate rankings.. one for the skilled at heroes players... and another for the skill and abusing and exploiting the design flaws.

Just finished a very long game with a player that I really enjoyed all game, and really was looking forward to rematchs and many more games etc.. until I see him passing turn sitting in town and I ask him if he seriously was just gonna sit there.. and he said yes.. until you come attack me.. otherwise I will just draw game out and outgrow you.. hahaha... So I attacked and clicked defend all battle while he slaughtered me. Wow.. very impressive skill shown! I am sure he is proud when he clicks the win button and sees his points grow.  Unfortunely I then blacklist him and will never play him again..

Anyways.. would like to hear some feeback on this.. I am sure there will be some players that support this cheesy tactic.. but I tend to think that the Majority of players will vote that they wouldnt use such sillyness..   Lets try and keep this topic and thread flame free.. no direct attacks , just stick to the general topic.

Responses:
Sure I would townsit if it was my only way to win.
Noway.. townsitting is silly, and I dont do it.

Are we still going on about that? If you fail to set a rule then it's all in the game. If you are rushed then yes you will defend in town, will you just stay outside and get slaughtered? However the problem is if you decide to remain in town for an indefinite time to delay your defeat, I can understand it being a temporary shield but beyond that.. I won't say it is dishonourable, I will simply say that you suck And no, staying if your opponent outcreeps you that does not mean you don't deserve your game because he has already exploited a few things to do that or he might have been luckier with creeps ect, it's not all skill. I'm sure we all know our share of creeping exploits.

And I still remember our first game so 'nuff said. You are too eager to label people dishonourable, if you keep blaming others' ethos or luck or Nival it's not an honourable thing in itself. Set your rules and play by them, I know you do cheesy things yourself. That is by no means an accusation so don't take it as such, I'm merely trying to make a point.

Well.. It seems as elvin proved.. its impossible to actually have a discussion and stay soley on the Topic.. it always comes down to pointing fingers at how good or bad Jinxer did play or didnt play etc..  I didnt name names.. I did not bash anyones honor here.. I merely wanted opinions on the what other players think about townsitting and if it benefits the game or hurts the game.  So please.. weather Jinxer sucks or Player X outplayed this etc etc.. should have no bearing on the basic idea of Is it necessary to use TownSit to steal a win or not.. lets stay on topic.. PLEASE.....

Hey you were the one that mentioned outplaying which by default serves to undermine your opponent's skill. I just remarked on the fact that you show it black and white when it's not. Maybe that sounds clearer now? I'll hang in the back and grab my popcorn, this thread is promising

I'm supporting Jinx side on this!

Also, I think we dont need to mention all the rules that are very clearly, right from the beggining.

And yes...this is a very promising thread indeed

ALSO Just to be clear since Fraud pointed this out..  My reference to TownSitting is talking about sitting in town for more then couple days with the intent to hide behind the walls and not planning on coming out in open to fight.

Ofcourse sitting in town for 1-2 turns to finish gathering your stuff is NOT considered Townsitting.

So with that clarification, Fraud, you can now vote

Hmm. I'm not a ToH'er, but I would only Town Sit when playing H3 and being attacked by a larger enemy army, controlled by the AI. (I prefer fighting in the Open in H4 and H5), OR when playing the other games when being INCESSANTLY attacked by the AI with really big armies.)

Against An opponent, I wouldn't do it tho - I figure it's both a stupid and irritating thing to do.

well I'm not ure if I fit into any of : "Now keep in mind, my questions and feedback request is Mainly directed at the Higherranked more experienced players... "

But I've always meant that townsitting is'nt any good sollution for a "good" final fight.... (I'm old school too)
BUT.... it for sure depends alot on the map...
lets say player A choose to townsit... Can't player B just block him inside and the use all his scout to take all his dwellings/mines...
in the looooong run he will for sure run dry....
in my eyes it's a kind of "donky" style of game so if anyone wanna play me in the future  I will for sure add that rule no townsitting...

Jinxer, my opinion is that your permanent whining threads ( ) about "will you red rush", "would you hit and run", "would you town sitting" related to your particular sense of the "honor" would be much more productive if you just renamed them thus not getting flamed:

1) How to always win against hit and run
2) How to always prohibit red rush
3) How to always win against a town sitting player

The question is not "will you play" the one who is town sitting, but "will he do it again" when he always lost to it.

No offense Salamadre.. but you as usual put your self in the catagory of players that doesnt have a high enough mental capacity to stick to the topic.. You jump right to flaming, and bashing, instead of voicing your opinion on the topic.  I know you are one of them players that support all the dirtiest of dirty tricks.. and I respect your opinion..

However... I would respect your opinion more if it was directed at the thread topic and not at me personally. As I predicted there would be players not mature enough to beable to stay on topic..

Just post your opinion that you are a town sitter and you wanna win no matter what and leave the personal attacks and opinions out please.

One of these days I will start a thread that asks for everyones personal opinion about Jinxer and what they think of him.. AND THEN you guys can let it rip, since that will be the topic... but until then, can we show some grownupness a little bit and stick to the topic.. Thank you...

calm down... salamandres idea is not that bad actually. starting a topic to find out how to beat those "honor-less people" is a far more constructive approach than via this poll wich provokes a lot of angry comments.

I agree with Salamandre position. Players must tend to improve himself not blame the game, luck, opponents etc ... Long time town sitting is no good, yes. But assaulting the town is part of the game, and it's fun. Defend the town vs rushes is fun too. For example my last two games i was defending town vs necromancer rush week 2, 3 ... Was fun Other recent games i have rushed with sylvan vs inferno, Deleb his town defense. I won but after battle only one treant with 10 hp remain alive, was really fun No rules, do what you want my dear opponent, i will try to stay calm

How to rush a H5 game...i wish i knew....mmmmm yoda says im much of a H3 gamer
Last post, i swear sub, dont get mad. Heroes is not a gentlemen game, its a barbaric one and it is ok that players do not follow SOME rules (not taking advanteges of bugs)as it adds the non-honor component to the game.
My opinion only

Fiur answered the question of post. If that technique does not work, the map is bad. Even tough I dont think that townsitting is dihonorable, I would not play the guy again.

But I will not make any rule for townsitting, since there are special cases when "tactical" townsitting is important part of the game. (couple of days). Eg.: in hg when you face necro with wizard it makes some sense.

Jinxer, I don't know from where you conclude my post was flaming and bashing at you. We know each other since the big bang of Heroes and I am still amazed to see you believing that someone who dislike "rules" is dirty or "supporting dirty" tactics. I also saw your endless threads about this matter being mocked and turning to personal attacks, so I propose to take another approach, less "honor" related but more "let's find a counter".

You will be amazed to see how those modified threads will became part of the tactics database instead of finishing in trash.

The answer to this question depends on map, and on the ammount of time spent town sitting.

If you're town sitting for ever, on a one town map, with no external dwellings, forever, than of course town sitting is impossible to counter and pretty dishonorable and the map is very bad also.

On the other hand, if you want one/two/three more weeks production before final battle, and opponent has options to hurt your economy/ conquer other towns with his heroes, than this is just tactical move and cannot be regarded as dishonor.

Still, it depends a lot on the amount of time you plan to spend in town... and I think If it surpasses one week production, then it's getting pretty lame, and it's better to explain to opponent how much longer are you going to stay in there.
