Quote: Especially since many maps have different strategies for different colors, making it a completely different experience.
And this is exactly why those maps don't work for tournament play. There always seems to be one color that is unbalanced/better then the others. That is fine for single player but for tournament play, no. Your comparing pond hockey to the NHL when you make statements like this. 2 games, that while similiar, are vastly different.
Quote: The toh map makers havent figured out how to make maps balanced without being perfectly symmetrical... which really is a shame.
You have a valid criticism here, and yes it is a shame. But there are toh maps that aren't symmetrical and guess what? Not many people like them. People in toh play to win not admire how pretty a map is. Try to understand that.
Quote: Well, we know there will be 6 campaigns, not 2.
and I seriously doubt there will be only 20 maps, considering that H3 had many more than that. I really wish you guys wouldnt be so pessimistic.
Well, speaking for myself, I would be more optimistic if I thought 3do could make a challenging campaign. The last hard campaign I played was the Ironfist one in h2. I would like to see a campaign that forces someone to develop skills and become a better player. None of the campaigns have ever helped me compete in online play. If 3do does this, then I will be extremely happy.
Quote: because really, C a C is sooo much more fun than any build-up-your-forces-and-kill-the-L7-creature-who-is-guarding-the-pass-to-your-enemy-and-then-take-their-castle TOH map will ever be.
You think C a C is a fun map? Go play Dix_ef on it. Tell me how much fun you had when he kills you day 4 like he did to me. And the maps you have described are maybe 25% of toh maps. If you want, play me on Fire War Campaign sometime or ask Frank for or a game on 7 Lakes.

It's all about big words. Really BIG words! (wait, I thought is was all about what you do with them. Nah, I'm pretty sure that's just a myth. )

You can say that again!
I personally like MP more than SP (of course) and I can beat almost any map on impossible (almost, don't count me on South of Hell) but I'm poor vs. my HS friend. This should speak a word or 2.
Second, rychen, if we are talking about maps like Hourglass... gee, is this your idea of maps? If so, I'm disappointed, VERY disappointed with you? If a map is not ToH and not rich in resources, I bet you put a cross on it saying, no, not for me. This is not good gaming.

Did everybody go blind lately?
People, people! There were random map generators ever since HoMM1! But no, poor old comfortable veterans don't know half the options in the map editor. The random map generator first appeared in AB they say. Bullsnow! AB is the first HoMM product, where the generator was in the game itself, apart from the editor!

yeah, AB actually fun
Too many people associate the various problems with Conflux with AB expansion- aside from that I enjoy playing maps on AB most of any of H3 products. You can always disable conflux on map so it doesn't appear if on randoms, or hyst find the good templates. There is a tendency in generator to make very twisted lanes maps with lots of bad terrain, but otherwise map creation is good from what I played.
It's too bad people can't get used to idea of templates- many other mult games don't have identical maps used over and over, they have a template that is generally the same, but a lil different each time so map doesn't get stale and memorizeable to same degree.

I think I can understand how you feel when you denounced the AI for not posing enough challenge to game play. Indeed, a hundred AB may be nothing once they get blinded. However, this reminded me of what a "friend" of mine had suggested, "How about playing without the use of magic"?
I agree with you that if the game doesn't provide enough satisfaction (or challenge, as this seems the two are in equivalent to you), then we may just have to quit it. Though, why not giving it (HOMM4) a try before judging it?
Again, it may not be a bad idea to wait for a while before buying the game, for various reasons - if you know what I mean.
Pityful me, it's not even selling here yet, even if I wanted to get it! Wonder how long I would have to wait...
