seriously, what's wrong with socialist policies?
Socialism is being banded about the HC like it is the political equalivent of the bogey man, and I just to say... what's wrong with it?
isn't socialism, at it's heart, about equality for all, about everyone getting a fair chance? to me, that sounds better than "if your born into X family, you'll do very well, if not, tough s***, your going to die young and only make any real money out of crime."
maybe it's because I've been living in a country with socialist policies in it's government for a while now, but what's wrong with the left and everything they stand for? I mean, surely it's no better with the right and everything they stand for. it's just a different oppinion on how you run the country.
I'm not accusing anyone, I'm just curious over why some people have such an adversion to Socialism. To my mind, it's done wonders for Britain and Ireland, free healthcare for the needy, free education for the desperate and free housing for those who can't afford, as well as benefits for those who can't get a job due to disability, age or whatever.
and please, no links, no bookmarks to glenn beck, ben o'rielly, Mac Mosley, no references to anything outside. All I want to hear is your honest oppinion, to which I will listen to.
You might come up with something good on your own.

Immigration isn't that bad in britain! if you read the daily mail, then yeah it is, but those who do have the intelligence of a common or garden variety turd.

Many reasons:
- Many of the boards members are Americans. Socialism used to be associated with Soviet Russia there, the opposition to capitalism and freedom, and some people just think socialism is bad by default because of it.
- People confuse communism and socialism.
- Countries claimed to be socialistic failed or turned out to be communistic regimes.
and so on
What people usually criticize is communism or some sort of failed post soviet russia wannabe-socialism. And that's fine. Those systems are a pile of snow and should be criticized.
Pure socialism was never adopted and we can only speculate.

Pure ignorance. Socialism is about distributing wealth among the people, communism that we had (not the communism in the definition) was about distributing wealth to the rulers.

I cant talk about Socialism globally but in my country it sucks, its comunism behind a big hypocresy or something like that. What i know about socialism isnt bad but its the way the system is carried out what defines if its good or not for a country... i think

Well I can say that capitalism here pretty much sucks also (although communism sucked even more, but then, it was the Sovietic-installed communism).

Well you can't say that everything about socialism sucks, take healthcare for example.
Sure it has its good sides and its bad sides. Just like capitalism.
The idea is to find a reasonable mix of both; however, socialists will hate capitalism till the end of time, and vice versa, so it's best to just keep tossing tomatoes and crying over our fate until the end of time. That way everyone's happy.

Yep, you give up freedom in exchange for "the government" taking care of you. "Taking care of you" basically means it steals money and redistributes it.

Socialism, like anarchy, has one problem.
It looks interesting on paper, but relies on the unrealistic assumption that people will not be people.

Well, if you think about it. Redistributing wealth isn't all that great. Sure it's not fair that some people start out with loads of money and others don't, but there have been many people that started out poor, but rose to success because of the work they put into their lives. A socialist idea, welfare, in fact makes the poor suffer more than help because it doesn't make them work for the money, which not only doesn't help them rise to success, but takes away more money from other people and the government. Capitalism, though constantly bashed because of its faults, works better than any other system we've come up with, even if there are unfair advantages to the rich. Also, socialism typically supports higher taxes, and who likes taxes? No one (except the guys that collect it, I'm sure). What would help is tax cuts, because that lets the individual citizen keep more money. And what do people do when they have more money? They spend it. And who gets the money from them? Businesses, therefore stimulating economy, and also giving the government a cut of it as well (sales taxes). Health care...(sigh...)...government run health care tends to...well...suck. Not only is the quality lower than healthcare companies, it also destroys many healthcare companies (if not all) as well, lowering the state of the economy. All of this money going to the government, just so that the politicians can please the lobbyists. Sorry, but I'd rather take capitalism and conservatism.
