Suppose the theory in the article is correct.
Corollary 1: Trolls contribute to the internet society by increasing the lifespans of hundreds, if not thousands of people with each thread they flame.
Corollary 2: If the amount of trolling inherent in the web is any indication, the world population will increase dramatically in the next century because of people living indefinitely long lives, sustained by cumulatively increasing troll activity.
In the light of the abovementioned arguments, the only halfway logical conclusion that can be drawn is that trolls want to doom the world by overpopulation and make it a global China! The trolls want you to be blue-collar slaves! And if you get angry, again it is them who wins.
Implication: Resistance is futile. We should all commit suicide before the trolls bring back the Malthusian trap.

I think the issue is bottling the anger/negative feelings inside rather than letting them go. You don't have to scream, throw things, and hit people to let anger go.

Hello everyone, long time no see! (My fault)
Here goes the doctor's opinion on the matter!
First of all, I loved the idea behind the study, its ingenious, intriguing and most of all, interesting. The question they are trying to answer is IMHO a very valid one.
About the method: I think their biggest triumph is also paradoxically their demise. Although the clergy offers a proper socioeconomical background for such a study, it IS nonetheless an intentionally selected subgroup, which makes this study a bit less trustworthy; for intentional selection of a subgroup is a known and common source of bias. The most trustworthy studies are those with randomly selected subjects confronted by a control group.
What do I mean by that? Have you seen how wildly priests and nuns burst into anger? Of course you didn't, they rarely do. Have you seen what kind of eating habits they usually have? Do you think they eat Bigmacs and donuts for dessert everyday?
So the question is: do you thing the heart and blood pressure of a 220 pound football fan will react to anger attacks the same way the heart of a NUN will do?
Perhaps within the clergy the study INDEED shows a valid point, and I admire the study's conclusions. But in the REAL WORLD not rarely what motivates many blood pressure peaks, stomach ulcers, heart infarcts and others is PRECISELY the expression of extreme feelings, such as anger, sorrow, fear and antecipation.
My personal opinion is therefore: a study conducted within a cloister is potentially too biased to be taken as a fact for the general population.
Greetings on you all!

Yes, my conclusion is that the study is a bit slanted. Any number of other factors may have impacted this case study. From diet, to environmental, to who knows what. Further study, with many more and more varied tests would be needed to validate the theory. While it is not healthy to bottle anger, it is also not healthy to throw fits of rage every day or so.
