Quote: In Poland we see it clearly as once commusim has fallen, thousands of factions, associations and activists as well as journalists or common people change this with their own hands. Are you waiting for someone to knock at your door and kindly ask you 777 questions about things you want to change? Real democracy requires ACTIVITY.
The problem with that is it requires too much effort with very little gain, if any at all.
and UNTIL that happens I have to live in THIS situation, and THAT's the problem. Activity takes YEARS, maybe 5-6, before it manifests strongly. In those years I have to live in the "system". That's years I'm *****ing about.

Any news here? No?Just the same old snow on how people whine about the EU...
Quote: UK has much influence on the EU. UK (& USA's) obsession with fighting terrorism will affect all nations in the EU sooner or later. I guess they'll start to tap our phones soon also.
Isn't UK trying to get off the hell hole that is called "war on terror" since that brings too many body bags and actually drives "terrorists" to their country?
Btw, phone tapping is so outdated you don't have to use it any more

It's nothing new that the world is bad, but some of us try to change it.
As a polish saying reads, the absent are not right. No matter how hard you complain about things if you don't give better alternative.

If you all have so many problems in Romania in whatnot - MOVE.
Go to Italy, for frag's sake, to Germany or to Sweden.
Or overthrow your government.
What do you expect the EU to do? Pay all of you a pension? Have you any idea what Germany is paying into the EU coffers and what Romania is paying?
In 2008 Germany paid 22.2 billion € and got half of that back via EU payments to Germany.
Romania paid 1.2 bio and got 2.66 back, a net gain of 1.5 bio €.
Germany has 82 mio people who paid 11.1 bio € net loss - about 135 € p.p.
Romania has 21.5 mio people and they got 1.46 bio € - something like 67 € p.p.
While that isn't much - the EU can't spend more than they have, so complain to the national governments and ask them to pay more money into the EU coffers - I agree that it should be more, by the way, but, hey, that's only me; I'm willing to pay a bit for European unity, but when I read that people in countries wbho are in the EU less than 3 years expect them to solve all their problems...
We've been unified with Eastern Germany for 20 years now, are STILL paying in the West part for them, and they STILL are not on the West level. So what the frag do you expect? God coming down working miracles?

JollyJoker, you must have misunderstood. I was only talking about your example with the cigarette costs, I wasn't trying to say that I demand more aid from the EU. I'm pissed at the EU for other reasons, mostly legislation, NOT aid or welfare for poorer states. My point with that was that in different situations, people find different things "important". For example, finding food is no problem for us, but for children in Africa, I guess it would be a hell of a political option (if there was one, of course I'm only giving an example analogy).
And yeah, overthrow your government, let me just make a phone call through a secure line. It'll be done in no time.

Well, isn't everyone pissed about legislation in their own country as well? So why should that be different with the EU?
There will always people who are pissed wwith a rule, no matter wwhat, so what's so special here?

Mainly that its Europa, we can't agree even if we wanted to.
And that unlike the "normal" kind of organisation, it needs to be more effective and move its ass move. I would say the problem is in 2 parts:
*EU can't move fast enough
*There is already government of each respective country its in EU
Now, if EU could actually move its ass and be more effective, then we got a chance of people liking it.

Ah, but the problem is what the member states' governments are allowing the EU government to do.
And look at the money. EU has 130 billion € budget which is a joke actually. Federal budget of Germany was 280 bio € AND German states (counties) had roughly the same again.

Fact: Advanced countries in the EU pour loads of money into the coffers of the newcomers. If you are from a newly-admitted European Union country, you have a lot to thank for.
Fact: The supranational power of EU; at least in the political arena; is very limited. Also, the coordination is still problematic, as can be seen in the recent Irish monetary crisis, and the war of attrition between France and Germany not to be the first one to help and get under the burden.
I'm from Turkey and although I'm not supporting the "beggar" attitude of the current government (how they can continue to do it without losing the support of their fundamentalist thick-headed "moderate Islamist" is still a mystery to me), I would be happy if we could join the EU. Yes, you may lose some autonomy; but if money and human capital will enter your country, it may be well worth it. Also, even if you don't join EU, this doesn't mean your country can be independent of all outside pressure. Turkey is not in the EU, so it is being the lap dog of the USA. What's the difference? We don't get paid for what we do (The politicians are paid all right).
So Eastern EU people: Just realize that the benefits from your EU membership far outweigh its costs. It is the people in countries like France, Germany, England and the Scandinavians who should complain, because they are practically being forced to be charitable.

my 2 cent?
No, no it is not. to many countries have bad memories of soviet imposed doctrine, and thus, purely from a peoples stand point, communism is not next.
as for this beggar culture of the new admitance to the EU, I say may good, they need that money more than we do. if we have enough money to build a school, I would gladly give that money to poland to build a school that to britian in order to allow some rich pricks a tax brake. And I am not just saying that because there's a member of youth ukip in my flat and he's bloody irritating.

Nobody is suggesting anarchy. Do you like your world black and white?

if you don't want to be controlled, vote against it. It's as simple as it goes, there are no evil, opressive communists who want to monitor your mail.
Oh that's funny, I do believe we voted a very harsh NO, as did France and later Ireland. Yeah that totally worked man Some democracy, huh?

Quote: We seem to move away from democracy and our personal integrity/privacy.
It's called progress. People want and can know more. All you need to protect is the access to these data. However, it is nessessary for law to PROTECT vital data and that's what most of goverments are aware of.
And frankly I don't believe in that bullsnow History is full with examples of corrupt leaders and only few examples of integre men. You really live in a pretty paradise don't you? It's okay dude, it's 2009, there's no more corruption and exploitation /naive.

Quote: In school they said that Swedens was one of the oldest democracies
That is why you don't see the difference between communism, aliens and Flying Spagetti Monster, duh.
Communism is an ideal society that does not take into account humanity's greed and therefor won't ever work in a modern world. If you want to experience true communism, visit a native tribe in Africa. THAT'S communism.
Aliens are extraterrestrial lifeforms.
The Flying Spaghetti Monster is truth (as much as Christianity is truth).

US is so weird because it seems to me like everybody can sue each other for huge amounts of money (that will ruin the other persons life) really easily. Lots of greed in the sueing over there I think.
Also I have read about capitalism/socialism in school and socialism is better
Maybe just because we have heavy socialism in Sweden lol xD
