Heroes 3 modding without WoG

Welcome.

I realize that this topic might be destined for no-single-reply.

A little bit of background first. As we all know Conflux town was implemented in AB instead of Forge. Authors were in a rush, so couple of game features weren't done correctly.

One of those (I think) are the heroes of Elemental Conflux. It's a pity that 50% of Planeswalkers have same specials as the other 50%... Not to mention their secondary skills (Lacus A.Tactics - Kalt B.Tactics, B.Learning or similar situation with Fiur/Ignissa).

Let's get to the point.
I think (and highly suggest making) that there should be, a patch that changes secondary skills of planeswalkers for more various (or at least change Thunars/Erdamons - they're the same! It's like the conflux had 1 less hero...).

I'd do it myself but I don't know hex editing, and besides wouldn't know where to look. I realize it is hard to do, but NOT as hard as making new town or new creatures...

If ANYONE is willing to help/do it/tell how to do it, or at least give a piece of advice - please - post a reply or mail me.

Cheers.

You are in WOG forums, so all you need it a precise idea of what you want, then you'll get a small code to play with. Too vague the complaint.

I suppose it could be done through Heroes trait files, could'nt it?

It is easy to do that in both SOD and WOG.
Of course, it is more interesting to edit in WOG by ERM script.
But you should learn much about this firstly.

Hellburn did'nt make it clear whether it was for SoD or WoG. My suggestion would be through trait files for SoD and ERM with WOG for the changes he proposes.

changing skills/spec can't be done with text files. Can be done with ERM. In homm3 TE version many heroes have new specialty or new skills. In new release of TE I plan to add few campaign heroes to be available to play at random maps and also will be Centaur, Gremlin, Air elemental specialists.

I thought about making the patch for SOD. But if ppl will like it, it could be done for WOG too.

I think it is in Heroes3.exe, but as I wrote before, I don't know how to do it.

These could be the changes:
Lacus - B. Archery and B. Navigation instead of A.Tactics.
Kalt - nothing.
Ignissa - B.Balistics instead of B.Offense. B.Artilery stays as it is.
Fiur - nothing.
Thunar - nothing.
Erdamon - B.Armorer and B.Resistance instead of B.Tacitcs and B.Estates.
Pasis - B.Luck and B.Diplomacy (or B.Logistics and B.Scouting) instead of B.Offense and B.Artilery
Monere - A.Armorer instead of B.Offense and B.Logistics.

Change speciality of Grindan (to Estates, like Lord Haart's) or Gelare (to Bless). Rest is ok imo...

Many hero classes have similar secondary skills. Barbarians all have offense, beastmasters all have armorer. Taking away log and offense from Monere turns him from a good hero into a non-important one.

Offense for barbarians and armorer for beastmasters are like 'racial skills'. Planeswalkers obviously don't have one...

This change makes Monere a bit 'weaker' but balanced imo... He had almost perfect starting skills, so nobody would choose Lacus f.ex.

Some of your ideas are quite good. Especially your suggestions for erdamon.

BTW: Lord Haart is not an estates specialist (as far as i know) but a gold specialist. As far as i know there is no estates specialist. And there is no built-in code for an estates specialist.

Lord Haart is definitely an Estates specialist. I spent two hours last night writing an article on him and tested numerous times

@songfx:
If it's that simple, can you do it, or at least tell how to?

There are a bilion of WoG maps out which have changed the heroes specialty. Just copy/paste the scripts from them. It is a basic script. Not need hex editing when have ERM for that.

But from what I understood he does not play WoG but SoD. I doubt ERM will help him there.
Or perhaps he could just install WoG over his SoD and disable ALL options, except the one he will create with ERM?

Nah, imagine - everytime you install SOD, you must also install WoG, uncheck its options, load the script...
Copying and pasting *.exe file is much more simplier.

C'mon ppl... I know that SOMEONE knows how to do it.

WOG was made for modding purpose. There are ways to mod the original game but still you will have to handle the custom files to everyone to have your changes applied. While WoG allows to just place a few commands into a script without any changes in original txt.files (which are easy screwed if use the wrong tools). After all, you asked in WoG forum but want to skip it and mod by yourself? Fine.

Also it is amazing to still listen people complaining that they have to install something which takes 5 minutes. It will take you weeks to mod without WoG, 5 minutes install is nothing. Not to mention how many times you will have to reinstall the original game while messing with modifications.

There are some people that don't like WOG (for many reasons, but that's not important right now). Why force them to install it only to have few single changes?
It doesn't matter if WOG is installed in 5, 3 or even 1 minute. It's about simplicity. It's so simple to download the file, and change the original one.

I wrote here, because I thought that people here generaly know more about how to mod H3 than in Liberary of Enlightment. It doesn't matter to me if someone wishes to make a script with changes for WOG. I'm interested only in modificated Heroes3.exe

True, but if I manage to change it properly, the 'messing' will come to end.

Good luck changing the .exe. Btw, do you know that it is possible to disable everything in WoG and keep only your changes and the original mechanics?
