Quote: The best form of government is a benevolent dictator who supports individual freedoms and rights, and does not let anyone get in power who would interfere with those rights (although he lets people express their opposition freely). Unfortunately, such a dictator will never exist.

Quote: The problem is, in a democracy, you have tyranny of the majority, and people vote for things that make them less free.
Yeah, such a situation was exactly what I hoped to avoid with a mathematical derived model for what ideas are to vote for in the first place (a purpose of the state, so to say), thereby maximizing freedom of everyone equally in regards to the variable of present technology and ressources.

I don't understand you here Vlaad. Isn't this thread about democracy and isn't it democracy we're talking about?

Oh, I thought the documentary was just the leap board of which the discussion of democracy should evolve from.
Also, about what you write (the problem with your what is possible to vote for) I notice you describe the people and not the ideas they stand for.
In my opinion, it doesn't matter much if someone have the charm of a dalek, the ways of blair or is unknown, it should be the ideas they've that should be focused on.

I think it's turned from the documentary about a chinese classroom vote to complaining how much democracy sucks.
considering the options for me in my general election, (either a) the party whose been in power for the past 14 years, with a leader with all the charm of a Dalek b) a party of fustidious old coots whose worse than the party going out, and whose leader seems to have taken to much out of tony blairs hand-book to the point where I think they went to the same hairstylist or C) a relative unknown who have good policies and nice ideas, but whose representative in my local area wants to get rid of alochol... in a student town!) I can pretty much agree on that at this stage.
