After mentioning it to Xerox, I decided to read History of Civilizations by Braudel one more time, thinking it might lead me to contemplate things I wouldnt in my youth. I stand with awe in front of the man's intelligence and clarity once again. Even the first 30 pages made me realize again how big his impact was on study of history as a social science. I recommend the book to everyone, Braudel has the gift of explaining even the most sophisticated matters in a way that any person, even if not familiar with academic language, can easily grasp.

I finally got around to reading a book by Sir Walter Scott;.he wrote Ivanhoe, Rob Roy and many others. I recently watched a vid-bio done by Andrew Marr (I think) and he said his favorite was The Heart of Mid-Lothian. I decided to give that book a read.
I once read somewhere that Scott did not write women well. To my surprise Mid-Lothian is not a tale of heroic swordsman but more a courtroom drama, and it stars females for the most part that are well written. I thought it a very good book, although archaic reading in places and I was forced to pause in places (imo too often) to understand native Scots.

Wow, I guess reading is on the decline people are not talking about books.
Thought I would post a good find. Get it at Gutenberg.org
King Eric and the Outlaws, Vol. 1 or, the Throne, the Church, and the People in the Thirteenth Century. by Bernhard Severin Ingemann. (1st of 3)
TRANSLATOR'S PREFACE.
The historical records and traditions of Denmark, as well as the modern productions of Danish genius, are almost equally unknown to the general reader is England. While German, Swedish, and Italian works of any recognised merit, readily find translators, and the ancient ballads of Spain have received their English dress from an able and poetic pen, it appears somewhat singular that so little notice has hitherto been bestowed on the literature of a country, whose rich historical recollections are so closely interwoven with those of Anglo-Saxon England.
4 Chapters in I read this that sounds like modern day politics.
Quote: "Every ungracious word spoken to me by your highness in public, I shall take to be a proof of your secret favour."

I had pleasant reading on Artemis Fowl series. I was bit sceptic for one it's kids fantasy tale and second it's main character was a kid. But i think it was cleverly written and the characters where interesting. Check it out!
Last i read, the first Forgotten Realms trilogy. Now there's something for the older readers! Go Drizzt. Well i think you all have read this one already.. If not WHY IN PETE'S NAME YOU AREN'T IN THE LIBRARY YET Good stuff, lots of action and meaningful stuff.

My Sister Rosa
The language isn’t anything fancy, in fact, it’s quite simple english.
The characters could use some fleshing out to feel more real at times.
The end of the book felt clearly lacking...
...yet...
...and yet...
...it’s captivating, exhilarating and intense. I could not put the book down before I finished it. I gorged on it. I feasted on it. I absolutely, undoubtedly, loved every second of it.
