in most cases i'll start with cyra (Tower. has haste + I like this town. the minus is the fact she has diplomacy). if the map is large enough and i had found a better hero (Elleshar, Jedith, Malekth, gird, andra, styg) after i built my mage guild I might switch to it in order to get a perfect hero.
Tower - Cyra
Castle - Adela (bless. but diplomacy...)
I'm so confused by this. Your favorite heroes are Diplomacy born, which is actually by far their strongest feature. Maybe you're playing no-diplomacy games, as a large percentage of people do, but if so, then why wouldn't you prefer other heroes from these towns? Like, any might hero? We all like getting haste and bless, but if those show up in your level 1 mage guild, there was no point.

except for XL maps (where monsters start to pile up to hordes) the diplomacy never was useful for me.
I never play with might heroes...For me the battles are won not by the units, but by the spells.

favorite Heroes
Quote: I'm goin with two Death Knights, Lord Haart and Vokial the Vampire. Dread Knights are one of my favorite units in the game. They have high HP, they're undead so they're immune to Mind Spells, and that Death Blow attack is sick nasty! Vampire Lords are such a devastating foe in large numbers due to their un-counterable attack, and their ability to steal their opponent's life force and use it to heal themselves, and it doesn't hurt that they're undead so they're immune to Mind Spells. Many a battle I've bin in where my Vampire Lords have saved me due to these two attributes.
Castle-->Ingham
Dungeon-->Synca
Rampart-->Ivor
Necropolis-->Vokial/Lord Haart
Conflux-->Erdamon
Fortress-->Alkin
Stronghold-->Shiva
Tower-->Theodorus
I prefer Heroes with creature specialties, b/c any hero can learn the four schools of magic

Is this Wog? Or how do you get that much shown knowledge, id like to know?
But its possible to get more (theoretical) pellpoints than that, using intelligence hero boosted by many events, you just cant fill it up, because the number will be negative...

Yes, a patch was made to display real value of primary skills up to 125, previously 99. So max is 5000 spell points. Not speaking about events which add spell points, only mechanics. As the patch digs directly in internal addresses, I guess someone can convert it for SoD too by looking at specified hex.

You can go up to 108th level (edit: 6424th for AI), if you know how to give the right experience value.

yes you are right, I forgot it. Chinese SoD mapmakers use it for getting high level AI heroes. In WoG we can get it for human player too, but is useless.

I overall take the ones with +1 Resource or +350 Gold.. But if I have Tower (you probably already know which one) then its of course SOLMYR. Holy crap, so overpowered. Advanced Wisdom (?) and Chain Lightning + spellbook in the start..

Solmyr should be removed from game. It is the perfect trap for newbies and greatly delays their understanding of the mechanics.

Solmyr looks very tempting, but he's actually not good at all.
Due to him being a wizard, he gets more often power and knowledge, but attack and defense is regarded as more valueable. I think attack is usually regarded as most valueable, which is why most people would like to have a barbarian hero.
I believe the reason why power and knowledge aren't very important is rather simple. The spell haste is independent of power, but every battle is usually decided by one side casting this spell and using ones high attack score to destroy the opponent quickly. No matter what you've in power, if the battle lasts very shortly, that spell damage won't help you much, nor will it help that you could have casted many more times.
Regarding knowledge, when you reach a certain amount, you've plenty of mana until you get to refill. As such, knowledge isn't very valueable either.
There are tactics better suited for a high value of power, which is usually scout wars, hit & run, etc., but hit & run is not usually considered when playing another human, unless already agreed upon.
You do need some knowledge and power, because you, e.g., want blind to last for at least a couple of rounds, and you want to be able to town portal a couple amount of times, but you don't need a lot.
In campaigns however, a magic hero is probably a very good choice, because you keep your hero, not your creatures, between campaigns. As such it can be a good idea to be creature independent in campaigns.

You are not forced to go with native hero, unless you play a game which requires it. In general, you will have good results with a knight, barbarian and beastmaster, try to get those who have best specialties, as armorer, offense and archery, it will pay a lot later.
