Then I may have misenterpretated you wrong earlier and it would be my apologies which are called for. Because I read that you believed that the series as a whole will move back to the original continuity. I find that belief to be a stubbron refusal to look at reality and clinging to a utopic worldview.
If Ubisoft had any such intention, they would have abandoned the Ashan continuity after TotE/DMoMM. They clearly intend to see this continuity through.
I hope I did not offend you to much.

Well I've developed a belief - and not an unfounded one - that there was just one major reason they chose to create a new continuity: they had nobody on their team who fully understood the old one. One can easily tell this by checking the first dev diary they released, where someone mistakenly mentions that Antagarich is on Axeoth. They certainly didn't disparage the "old universe", aside from mentioning "there was so much info here and no storyline bible to go with it".
In other words, while they're obviously fond of Ashan, I don't think they're necessarily totally committed to abandoning the old continuity, or that they're at peace with the current "reality". They never ever actually referred to Ashan as a "new universe" or "a reboot", only "the world of Might and Magic" and "a revamp". I'm definitely not the only person who criticised what I understood as the writers throwing away 25 years worth of lore; in fact looking at some old threads and a few casual, non-Heroes-related discussion boards, I'd say I'm in the majority. Indeed, the overall bad storyline and setting were the only real gripes I ever had against H5.
Now, they have someone very very competent who knows the series storyline on their team - knows it better than anyone, in fact - so we'll be able to make a final judgment on their commitment to standalone-universe Ashan or in-Might-and-Magic-universe Ashan when H6 comes out. If it's the latter, I may continue to complain. But if the storyline is actually good this time around, I will not complain for long
Not offended. Sorry for misinterpretation. But the last thing I would intend is to come across as a mindless, pigheaded zealot or whatever who has no real thought, reasoning or credibility behind his posts. Though I guess everyone else will be the judge of that eventually

No offense here, but wasn't Marzihn hired as a mapmaking consultant?
I believe you when you say the guy knows his lore. But if that's not what they've brought him on the team for, then that part of his knowledge will not come to fruition much.

All I know is that he's an excellent mapmaker and knows the lore of the series. I know Ubi are aware of both, but I don't know if the latter is part of why he was hired. So, as I said, "we'll see about that".

I don't think the Forge was that out of place. Considering how there are already spells that are as powerful as nuclear weapons, some lasers and tanks aren't going to make that much a difference.

Super advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
But I agree with Cepheus here, the series has developed it's own identity by now and introducing changes of sever nature would be bad.
(even though HoMM 3 butchered HoMM 2's creature lineups - I already foresee incoming hate).
I wouldn't mind a steampunk spin-off HoMM, though.
Anyway, I'm a HoMM II Paladin fan - Angels die, old school Paladins/Crusaders emerge!

What happens if you mix the super-advanced (lasers, cyborging) with the far less advanced (guns, flamethrowers)?

Quote: If you suddenly had an undead unit in, say, the Haven lineup, there's also that fact that Undead and livings traditionally don't get along that well with each other. Not that many pet ghosts or zombies that I ever heard of.
There's a fairly common norm of undead hating everything living in fantasy but they are also often subjected by magic. Banshees and wraiths, for example, would be bound to serve the dark elves. As for something like vampires, I wouldn't consider it odd for them to have a willing alliance with an evil human empire.

If there is to be darky elves then just don't make them cheesy light clothed women with giant hair like in H5. Gosh I hated it. The faction of old evil beardy wizard men with lust for power and using various monsters for their armies suddenly turned into light clothed ugly dark elf women. Just make them evil human like with dark colored and sharp pointy equipment, like in warhammer.
And why does the undead dragons not have a breath weapon? Why do they bite? Don't tell me dragons have anything but magical reasons for their breath attacks. Undead dragons should have breath attacks working by magic as well. Give them some interrsting ability again like the aging in H3.
