Everybody, I want to draw your attention to something from H6 Necropolis .pdf:
Quote: Country / kingdom: The Silver cities
Capital city: None at the time of Heroes 6
The Silver Cities are the Academy territory in H5, so I think this implies that the Academy won't appear in H6 vanilla.

Quote: Maybe the northern tribes where sylath is still popular according to lore.
Doubt that. In the north of the known continent of Ashan the Dwarves are the ones that call the shots in Grimheim and the Orcs in Ranaar. There are a few unnamed islands above that, but I doubt there are enough people there.
No, if there is a 10th faction to be seen (I'm convinced the 9th are the Naga, as most are), it's either a Lizardman faction or a race we've not heard of yet.
Quote: The Silver Cities are the Academy territory in H5, so I think this implies that the Academy won't appear in H6 vanilla.
And here I thought you knew your lore.
The Necromancers are a faction within the Seven Cities of Magic aka the Silver Cities. As are the Wizards and it is not until the Purge of The Necromancers that they are kicked out in 751-770. That is also when most of the lands are destroyed. So it might be a reasonable assumption that the Desertlands of HoMMV were once Jungles.

How so? They state the Necropolis are situated in the Silver Cities, but *they* don't have a capital city at the time. How does that say that there's no Academy (who obviously have a capital city since they are the Silver Cities)?

That doesn't necesarily mean that Academy can't be in as well.

Yeah, but I think this, coupled with the lack of a desert terrain, is the final nail in the coffin.

Well...when I said 10 factions it was just because for me the more the better when the topic is number of factions
But if they could implement one extra faction instead of making alternative upgrades I would choose the extra faction.

But remember same pdf references the Wizards, including one of their units.
Also, they'd have to implement a big twist in the story to explain how the Necromancers can be one of the major forces in a war but the Wizards decide to lay low.
I do think it's possible they'd include a neutral faction instead of having 3 good ones, but then opposing pairs wouldn't fit, only Haven & Inferno.

@War-Overlord: That's exactly my point - I know the Wizards and Necromancers were in the same place back then (I wouldn't stop whining to MattII about it in the main thread every time he complained about inconsistencies ), so I believe they were one faction instead of two at that point.
If that united faction is the Necropolis, it can't be the Academy.

Arantir was a force on his own if you recall The fact that necro is in does not mean a whole nation goes to war, Sveltana could be independent for all you know.

This is from AOH H5 page:
62 YSD: The Schism of the Seven
Schism between the disciples of Sar-Elam, who can’t agree on the best way to follow the road laid down by the Seventh Dragon and, hopefully someday surpass him. Sar-Antor founds the Blind Brothers, a congregation of healers, seers and embalmers dedicated to the worship of Asha. Sar-Badon founds the Dragon Knights, a martial order disciplined in both body and mind. The other disciples, led by Sar-Shazzar, the most gifted of them all, lead an exodus of wizards and like-minded humans to found the Seven Cities (the first kingdom of Magic) in the southern deserts.
To me that implies it has been the desert ever since.

May I point to these entries in the timeline:
Quote: 610 - 660 YSD. Rise of the Necromancers The Necromancer presence grows until they are a powerful political force in the Seven Cities.
Which implies that the Necromancers were only a small faction before that in the Seven Cities. HoMMVI is set earlier than that.
And to:
Quote: 751 - 770 YSD. Purge of the Necromancers - Civil war in the Seven Cities Jealous of the power acquired by the Necromancers, the Wizards of the Seven Cities initiate a large-scale persecution, ranging from the seizing of their properties, to banishment, to the spectacle of public executions
A long and gruesome civil war ensues. The ancient cities are destroyed and much of the land is rendered uninhabitable.
Which implies that the Cities were once in much more hospitable lands. Which could be the Jungles.

Some other things:
New tier system
Units are no longer divided in successive levels of strength, they fall under three categories: Core, elite and champion.
The former 2 categories have 3 units each and there is one champion unit. Take haven, the archer and the spear guy will be of comparable strength since they are both core units.
Creature Siege Damage
Creature stacks can now damage the fortifications but are less efficient than catapults.
Presence of critters on the adventure map
Turtles, dolphins, birds, etc. I loved those in previous heroes games

It's not that I haven't thought of such a tier-system in some of my own concepts in German forum Drachenwald, but I doubt that I can believe this news.
If they are true it would mean that tactical use of an unit may be more important than its level. I would appreciate this.

Quote: Which implies that the Necromancers were only a small faction before that in the Seven Cities. HoMMVI is set earlier than that.
I do think this has been kinda overridden, due to gameplay purposes. If Necropolis can battle against the Holy Empire it's size is questionable. But I agree this still shouldn't mean the Wizards are nonexistent.
Quote: Which implies that the Cities were once in much more hospitable lands. Which could be the Jungles.
I think it's more of a reference to the Academy being in the clouds now, as opposed to being still on the ground when the land was hospitable. I just don't think the lore would say they were in the desert since foundation, if it was a different kinda terrain.

I like the sound of that, and it's also in line with the smaller creature stacks that have been implied.

Ooh, nice news Elvin.
I'm rather curious as to how the new tiering system will work out.
And I'm glad creatures can do siege damage now. It never made much sense to me why 20 dragons could not damage a simple brick-and-mortar wall.

Wow, this one sounds great, much like Clash of Heroes. Tactics will take precedence over raw power.
But before I post it on AoH, I'm going to wait for definitive proof that you're not still taking us for a ride.
