Strange bug at end of campaign
Was playing the Nighthaven campaign on champion when a strange thing happened on the last scenario. The one where you are supposed to defeat Gavin Magnus.
Well, I went up to the top of the map to get the mind sheild, and after getting it, started coming back down when Gavin Magnus took the one-way portal into my land. He took the order town in the middle, but then I came down with my army which would easily defeat him but he simply disappeared from the map... ?
I continued on thinking he would maybe show up again, but I ended up completing the whole map and he never showed up. I got the message that the blue player has been eliminated, which was the last player, but the game was not over since the victory condition was to defeat Gavin Magnus... ?
I still have the save state, if anyone is interested to see it.
What seemed to happen was after Magnus took the order town in the middle, he simply disappeared somehow but his army was still there.
Strange.

Sounds like Gavin got killed by some neutral monsters on the map. In that case, the map becomes unwinnable.
Everyone agrees that this map was poorly designed. For example, you can use your town portal spell to get to the upper-left town on day one. Also, you might find other mind shields in random places on the map.

I don't think he got killed by neutral monsters, because I checked the map everywhere afterwards and I saw no dead flag anywhere. I saw that he did have a pretty strong army too before he came over.
Had to do this one over again because I only made one save state.
On the second time I did it, I did infact find a another mind sheild, and actually found it quite early. But I got the second one again anyway.
How do you town portal to the top left town? Doesn't town portal in heroes 4 just take you to the nearest town? In this case it would be the town you start with in the bottom right corner.

I think you can portal to that town by blocking off paths to your starting town. However, under the patched version/expansion, you get auto-lose when you do that and attack Gavin... I think.
You also lose if your ally kills Gavin (if I recall correctly).
