I think that the gryphon's upgrade should be something like the royal gryphon in King's Bounty. The helmet makes it quite strange.

I wonder who the Griffin's date is to the Masquerade ?
Seriously though, the mask looks ridiculous. I'm not a stickler for practicality, but how could he see out of that thing? lol.
Other than that I think it looks cool. Admittedly I actually like the look of the homm5 griffin. Hopefully this new griffin comes with some abilities, etc.

Probably the Sphinx from Necropolis on the promo art.
They'll be the most dashing couple of the ball.

That's pretty good - body well proportioned, armour paddings realistic. Helmet doesn't do it for me though.

Just like the rest of the already revealed upgraded Haven creatures, the Imperial Griffin makes no sense at all. Seriously, what is this stupid obsession with ornamented plate armors? Are these units supposed to fight on the battlefield or to look like some photo models advertising the latest fashion line of Angelo Elrathi? Damn...

The idea is that Anton's visions have led him to changing the way his army is run, placing an extraordinary focus on angels and heaven. It may be impractical, but then, the man in charge is listening to voices in his head.
It's the same kind of deal with Kiril's demons. It just happens that the more fiery versions of them don't look silly from a military standpoint.

ya the H5 demon race was a joke, all puppies and cute imps it made me sick , and they did not even have fire resistance.
they are from hell (sheog or something) why they suffer so much from fire attacks!!
the unit designs were horrible, but then again the zombies and vampires did not fair any better, good to see them pulling back from the anime cartonny style and back to the more gothicy although a bit more colorful style

Quite frankly don't like either of the designs. The proportions seem off for me, and the upgraded version's armor is plain silly. Looks more like a decoration for a parade than armor one could use for battle.

I find it disproportionate and the the upgrade is even worse. They should do much better than this.

Well so far 51% thinks it's great.
31% likes it.
11% thinks it's so-so.
3% doesn't like it.
3% thinks it sucks.
(At the time of posting this comment.)
Democratically speaking, they are doing a decent job.
This poll isn't massive or anything, but so far more people think it's decent.
As for the whole decorative armor thing.
Well it looks impressive, maybe not practical but hey, that's always been the norm in fantasy games, can't say characters from the previous installments (plural) had highly practical armor either.
Of course that is purely a matter of taste, in fact this whole thread is a matter or taste.
Please remember that.

I have to disagree. Up until HoMM V the armored creatures (and not only the as a matter of fact) were always pictured quite adequately and looked like military units. In HoMM I and II only the Crusaders/Paladins are wearing fancy armors. The HoMM III Archangel is maybe the best example. The creature inspires veneration, unlike the HoMM V Archangel which inspireas head-scratching. The same applies to the Marksmen, Crusaders, Cavaliers, Champions, Grand Elves, Arch Devils (I loved how they made the Devil's equipment a deriding version of the Angel's in HoMM III & IV), Titans and so on. It's a matter of taste, sure, but everyone should be objective enough to admit that in HoMM I-IV we have armies of soldiers, while in HoMM V and so far in MMH VI we have armies of mannequins.
