My latest game - early block of 30 pit lords

Maybe this would have been an instant re-start for many MP games, but I figured I'd go for the challenge. Here's the scenario - Random XL (not a template) with Underground. 30 Pit Lords just outside the gate of my Dungeon, no dwelling pre-built in my town, only the tiniest amount of resources available to gather without fighting the Pit Lords. No ballista heroes or good spells available from tavern heroes.

The decision that I felt needed to be made right away was when to attack the Pit Lords? I built dwellings 1-5, mage guild to level 2, and upgraded to hags. This let me attack on week two day one troops quantities of trogs, hags, beholders, medusas, minos. I won the fight, then beat a quick hive for some wyverns, and I was on my way. However, I may have been hopelessly behind and lost an endfight late week three that was closer than it had any right to be because of opponent errors.

My question is: should I have attacked earlier? Would have been 5 stacks of 6 Pit Lords each and I would have had no more than 12 harpy hags, 4 medusas, 8 beholders, 60 trogs, and 2 minos. Should I have considered this a winnable fight and tried it?

If its random, there is a template. It would be one of the original 3DO templates, but still it is a template

The question is, what difficulty level did you play? Building level 1-5 dwellings with mage guild level 2 requires some resources which you do not have from beginning when playing on higher difficulty.

And the moves of the neutral monsters are quite easy to predict on easier difficulties...

It was on 130% - I don't really like playing higher than that with friends because of the slow start 200% can cause. You're right that I needed a few extra gems, but they were luckily one of the only things I could reach. So Minotaurs were reachable, but also not until day 5 or 6, don't remember.

I agree that movements of the AI are predictable, but trying to manipulate six stacks all with speed 7 with speed 4 fodder is beyond my skill set. Isn't it inevitable that they're going to start reaching my shooters on the third turn no matter how well I dance? Maybe 12 hags (4 from hero, 8 from dwelling) played perfectly and with no morale from the pit lords could have won this fight day 3?

Well, you had at least 2 heroes with army, so it makes it about 16-17 hags.

Unfortunately, thats not enough.

You need some special hero in order to beat those 30 pit lords. Maybe Luna, Ciele and you can buy mana vortex so you will have at least 60 mana.

And still you may give too much victims.

In every normal multiplayer game this should be restart.
