Why the heck do we have to be talking about Nazis on page 2 of a thread about a US Congressman being shot?? Who the heck brought Hitler into this?

Oh, yeah, right. Big surprise.

A fair article on this.
The writer at AmericaBlog who linked this article deserves quoting.
Quote: Let it be noted that the Republicans control the majority of talk radio and cable TV shows that try outdo each other. The GOP controls talk radio. From Dr. Laura to Limbaugh to Hannity, O'Reilly, Beck, Savage and the rest. As for cable TV shows that try to outdo each other, CNN doesn't even try to do shows like that, MSNBC is new to the game (and in any case, shows left and right), whereas FOX News has given the GOP an entire network all to itself and has been broadcasting vitriol, with incendiary hosts and guests, for 15 years. There is no equivalence. And finally, the town halls. Who has been using angry mobs to disrupt town halls in a manner that is one hair away from violent? Republicans. Not Democrats, but Republicans.

Oh, yeah, right. Big surprise.
You are right. It is to be expected that someone will always blame the tea party/Palin/some other conservative. But I merely pointed out that the political viewpoints of the shooter are those of his favorite poilitical writings. The Communist Manifesto and the sociliast book Mein Kamph. Also, I showed how American progressives since the 1880 pressed for eugenics, wanting to create a master race of whites and wanting the "lesser races" to become extinct and that Hitler picked up this American progressive goal. So that is how Hitler ties in with the shooter who tried to kill a Jewish Congresswoman.

You aren't 'merely' pointing out anything Elodin. Isn't there some commandment against lying? Christ, you've already broken the 9th one time and again when it comes to our president.
As for somehow tying eugenics with modern progressivism, been watching Glenn Beck much? While we're at it, let's talk about some other widely discredited disciplines.
Let's start with Young Earth Creationism and Intelligent Design.
But that smackdown's for another thread.

Page three, and the thread is a shame.
I have to say, I'm a bit shocked about how easily people are reacting hysterically - or generalize their own feelings.
One thing is clear: THE KILLER IS INSANE!
If you have a serial killer rapist, will you argue that women had it coming? That it's a start? That it's an expression of the wrongly used power mothers have? Or will you argue that it's a PERSONAL thing based on PERSONAL experiences and maybe personal genetic defects?
This insanity has nothing to do with politics at all - the killer gave 19 shots. No matter what people like Binabik are saying, no matter what the press and the political parties say - the killings are this man's personal agenda, and this man is completely insane.
It is NOT a symptom, except for personal insanity.
And because of that it makes no sense to try and interpret the deed in a rational way - the man is insane, for god's sake. No sane man would go and shoot everything that stands, including a congresswoman, so looking for SANE explanations, when speaking about this guy is IRRATIONAL!
It's not the right place to discuss the political system in the USA, but if you have a bad system you mustn't wonder, if it results in snow. A couple of politicians, Congresspeople, senators and so on, can't change the system that starts with coming that far and being nominated in the first place. Politics - and court law - is a business, first and foremost, and justice and wisdom are for the history books, not for the daily business.
That said, generally the hard working local delegate, who IS fighting for the interests of his or her voters, is done a great wrong. If a system doesn't work the way it's supposed to be, the people who really give everything, are done a great wrong because they are generalized as "snows". That's true in other professions as well: lawyers; doctors... unemployed and welfare recipients, respectively.
Someone - Aculias? - already mentioned, that this thread is like it is out there: everyone yells at everyone else, blaming "the other side", trying to find the guilty parts for the snow going on in the world.
Cool down everyone, please, and don't use the deed of an insane person as justification for anything; you can't do that. Ever. Otherwise - since we are at it - Hitler's killing spree against the Jews could be taken as a symptom as well: they had it coming.

I responded to the claim the claims that the shooter was motivated from Palin/the right and proved that that is clearly not the case.

I see you have chosen to link to a left wing hatemonger from the New Youk times who lies and says that Palin/conservatives are reponsible for the shooter. Allow me to post a counter article about the claims of the lunitic you quoted.

Quote: Left-wing New York Times columnist and economist Paul Krugman is exploiting the tragic shooting in Arizona Saturday, which claimed six lives, including the lives of a federal district court judge and a 9 year-old girl, and which critically wounded Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. In a disgraceful op-ed column today entitled “Climate of Hate,” Krugman pinned the blame for the shooting on the Right.
Krugman’s discredited spend-and-borrow economics are bad enough. But his attempt to pin the senseless acts of a deranged young man on conservative politicians and political commentators is libelous. It is an obvious attempt to squelch free speech in America by justifing what Krugman has long advocated:
a return of the Fairness Doctrine to the media.
In his op-ed piece today, Krugman makes only a fleeting reference to the mental state of the alleged shooter, Jared Lee Loughner. Krugman skips over entirely Loughner’s apparent three-year obsession with Representative Giffords since he first saw her at an event back in 2007 and his alleged plans to target her. Krugman also leaves out Loughner’s alleged drug problem, his rejection by the Army and his suspension from community college for acts that appeared to evidence a severe mental disorder.
Instead of acknowledging the fact that deranged assassins are sadly nothing new in American history, Krugman blames “the national climate” today fed by what he calls “eliminationist rhetoric” of “the purveyors of hate” on the Right. He includes in his blameworthy category Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann, Glenn Beck, Bill O’Reilly and Fox News in general.
For someone who prides himself on relying upon empirical evidence, Krugman displays his true ideological zealotry with such an unsubstantiated accusation. Where, for example, in Krugman’s column is any acknowledgment that Loughner, whose favorite reading matter included The Communist Manifesto as well as Mein Kampf, was described by a former classmate as “left wing?”
More importantly, how do the following quotes from President Barack Obama himself and his supporters on the Left fit in with Krugman’s theory that the “toxic rhetoric” is “coming, overwhelmingly, from the right”?
if they bring a knife to the fight, we’ll bring a gun (President Obama)
We’re gonna punish our enemies ( President Obama)
My two favorite philosophers are Mao Tse-Tung and Mother Teresa…In 1947, when Mao Zedong was being challenged within his own party on his plan to basically take China over. Chiang Kai-shek and the Nationalist Chinese held the cities, they had the army, they had the air force, they had everything on their side. And people said, “How can you win? How can you do this? How can you do this, against all of the odds against you?” And Mao Zedong said, you know, “You fight your war, and I’ll fight mine.” (Former Obama Communications Director, Anita Dunn during a high school graduation speech)
[W]e prefer to use the power of persuasion, but if that doesn’t work we use the persuasion of power ( Andy Stern, former president of SEIU)
Dick Cheney’s heart’s a political football. We ought to rip it out and kick it around and stuff it back in him. ( Ed Schultz, host of “The Ed Show” on MSNBC)
Obama’s critics keep blasting him for Chicago-style politics. So, fine.Channel your inner Al Capone and go gangsta against your foes. Let ‘em know that if they aren’t with you, they are against you, and will pay the price. (CNN columnist Roland Martin)
You’ve given it your best shot, you’ve tried numerous times to talk with the Republicans, to negotiate, to meet them halfway on every single matter before the American people. But they hate you for many reasons. It’s time you break kneecaps (bold in original) ( Huffington Post columnist David Bourgeois , “Obama Better Start Breaking Kneecaps”)
a map, included in a Democratic Leadership Committee publication in 2004, featured nine bullseyes over regions where Republican candidates were considered vulnerable that year, and was accompanied by a caption reading: TARGETING STRATEGY. A smaller caption, beneath the bullseyes, read: BEHIND ENEMY LINES. The map illustrated an article on campaign strategy by Will Marshall of the Progressive Policy Institute.
And how about Democratic Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), who literally shot through the health care bill with a rifle during his political campaign?
Make no mistake about what Krugman and his pals on the Left are trying to do. They are setting up the argument for more government regulation of the Internet and the need to bring back the so-called Fairness Doctrine. They cannot compete with conservatives in the marketplace of ideas, so Krugman and company want to go back to the good old days when
The “fairness doctrine” forced broadcast media to give comparable representation to opposing points of view.
Only then can the Left achieve its goal of suppressing free speech which disagrees with its ideological agenda.
Oh, here is an excellent article showing the left and the "climate of hate" that they accuse the right of. Warning: Very foul and distrubing speech is linked to.

Don't you all feel reminded of the school shootings, when suddenly video games were to blame?
People want to blame someone or something in these cases, but blaming the "climate of hate" or "the low in political culture" is obviously nonsense, because if it was, a lot more people would go and shoot politics, not one guy shooting a politic and everyone in his way.
Not to mention, that there would be lots of people running around, killing lawyers, attorneys, policemen, and perpetrators gone free because one or more of the formers either being corrupt, screwing up or making some kind of deal.
If anyone is to blame, then it's the authorities which examined the killer - the army, for example -, and rejected him, without taking measures to make sure of further examinations.
It's a typical case where a tragedy is abused for political purposes - which paradoxically shows indeed, that the political climate lacks basically everything. But considering how things are handled at court - that "the truth" is basically irrelevant and the purpose justifies tbhe means - this is not so much a reflection of the political climate, but of soecietal ethics when it comes to truth and justice versus success and money.

Oh, and it's Mein Kampf, Elodin. Not Mein Kamph.
as for the left-right issue, see even the blasted wiki.
Quote: Far right, extreme right, hard right, radical right, and ultra-right are terms used to discuss the qualitative or quantitative position a group or person occupies within right-wing politics. The terms are often used to imply that someone is an extremist. The terms have been used by different scholars in somewhat conflicting ways.[1]
Far right politics usually involve supremacism — a belief that superiority and inferiority is an innate reality between individuals and groups — and a complete rejection of the concept of social equality as a norm.[2] Far right politics often support segregation; the separation of groups deemed to be superior from groups deemed to be inferior.[3] Far right politics also commonly include authoritarianism, nativism, racism and xenophobia.[4]
The ideologies usually associated with the far right include fascism, Nazism and other ultra-nationalist, religiously extreme or reactionary ideologies
Think what you want, you're wrong. Nazism is far-right. End of story.

Don't even know where to begin with this. It is such a mess, and frankly it is just sad. Again people are trying to justify their side of things with trying rationalizing. He did this because of 'x'. *shakes head sadly*.
We love our excuses don't we. Religion, atheism, politics, he wasn't breastfed as a kid, he was breastfed to much as a child, video games, movies, oh my how the list goes on. What is skipped over is..that people were harmed..for nothing.
If we go out and shoot everybody who we disagree with, nobody will be left. What he did was wrong, he CHOSE to do it, and there IS no justification for it. It doesn't matter if Nazi's were left, right, or upsidedowndiagonal. It doesn't matter if he read certain books, heck it would matter just as much as if he read the Hobbit. Those hobbits are evil! Doesn't matter his political leaning, or anything else. It matters that he shot at people. HUMAN BEINGS, for absolutely no JUSTIFIABLE reason.
Bina, you are wrong if you condone violence because our system is messed up. I don't care who hates who, because of why, there are better ways then violence. It is not going to change anything, except maybe make things worse. More 'big brother' because the politicians will fear for their life..which will give others 'excuses' to do more..and it will just create a spiral of escalation in which everybody will lose.
You don't like the politicians? Get like minded people together and get the OUT of office. Put your own people in. I can hear it now. "BUT ITS TOOOO HARRRRDDDDD!" That is why nothing is done about it, people prefer to whine then do something about it.
Change is NEVER easy. It has to be WORKED at, but people want it right now! Instant gratification. Blah, I am so disappointed in this thread.

Binabik is 1 person.
For there to be change, he needs at the least 50% of the countries voters. Lets for funs sake say that it would something like 1/8th of the countries population that can't or won't vote.
The country has a population of 300 millions, 7/8 of that is roughly 250 millions?
Now, Binabik persuades 1000 people, each of those people persuade another 1000 people to change their view, now we have 1 million voters, we need another 179 million to go? At these large numbers you can't really have a effective democraty, nor a rapid enough change to just get rid of corruption.
This is the sole reason I dispise democracy: Over a certain scale the sheere scale will be able to eliminate the entire effectivity. The other problem are if the dempgraphic of parties to select is too few, or you need something as ridicule to have over 50% of the votes to get in office(otherwise re-election).
Add on such messes as a unregulated media so each candidate can litterally buy votes via aimed commercials.
Or such messes as careere polticans....
So basically: When enough people get together and want a revolution, at some point there will be blood because careere polticans will snap up the job oppertunity when they are doing it the civil way. The oppsite(ideal guy gets ideal position and follows the will that he was suppose to do) rarely happens.
Elodin: We are not around here talking about you or your poltical viewpoint, so stop making a fuzz over it.
You are however using a quite black sheep and bad logic when you use your own superpolarized poltical scale on a international forum, what you call left we usually call right, mainly because it is not close to center at all.
Even better: You should know better than using cherrypicking when arguing. This is not some poltical debate where the level of the word is far lower than low.
We are not accusing "the right", we are accusing YOU, your neightbor and the guy you most likely disagree with poltically.
As for "Intelligent design", it is already proven that life can evolve from enough particles colliding for a long enough periode of time, which again evolves randomly into something else, which again evolves. On the other hand, Intelligent design can't be proven
Which is a half posetiv versus a negitive, which is not stating "right vs wrong", but merely "cherrypicked facts vs a claim"

Basically spoken, del_diablo, democracy isn't meant to do ONE person's bidding. If YOU don't like something - fine, but you are not supposed to single-handedly change a nation of 300 million people in a day.
Makes no sense either.
This is an example, how it can work in reality:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alliance_%2790/The_Greens
Current polls see the Green Party in Germany at 20% which isn't too bad for a party that began as radical left student movement. Note that Germany's foreign minister or Secretary of State from 1998 to 2005, Joschka Fischer, has a history of having thrown stones in demonstrations onto policemen.

While your premise is pretty solid Del_diablo, your numbers are way off. First off..not all of the 300 million can vote. Convicts, minors, illegals, etc can not vote at all. 24% is believed to be underage alone. Even then you have people who won't vote..etc. The numbers are not important however.
Going out and shooting politicians will not solve anything either. Heck if we went out and shot everybody who caused us issues or we didn't agree with..there would be a lot of dead people. The people are not the problem, the system is. Change the system. Only way to do that is HARD work. People don't want to do hard work.
