If u want to take one out at least let it be the snow maiden. It looks like a geisha not a warrior.

Hell Yeah we have Cepheus on our side! YEAH!
I would actually be quite content with this faction if they would just remove or change the Spring Spirit or the Ice Maiden.
They would still be to much water for me, but I could live with that.

I laugh at all the hypocricy around here, also they aint gonna change it at all, they are pretty much final (havent we wished for it before??). The game should be mod-friendly though, to the teary eyes can change the "horrific" creatures to their liking.
Yeah Im pretty much pissed off of how depressed this community are sometimes, heck even Bungie, Blizzard, Bioware, Lionhead, Maxis forums are more optimistic though much more pre-mature when the crappy comments first arrives.

There I've said it. On to tha' topic!

It's too early to decide imo. The two units look similar in exactly two aspect. they both float and are blue. aside from that they really don't have much else in common.

Given the japanese undertones (kappa, yuki-onna [snow maiden], kirin, shark). I'd say it is a good lineup with some noticeable references.

The fact that this wasn't official really hurts too though... So far what we've been complaining about has been really minor, (artworks and such) because we don't know too much more about the game other than artwork and some token information. Had these been 'officially' revealed with some information, I think this wouldn't even have been a problem we would be more concerned with the more serious issues.

I also want to replace any of the 3 Sanctuary casters. I don't have particular hate against any but they are too similar in their role. I hope 1 of them can be replaced by some water beast in far eastern myth. Dragon Turtle perhaps?

I prefer the Long Neck Dragon Turtle as the basic form the one like this:

and the head replaced by something similar to this Dragon turtle concept:

Finally the shell should be spiky with Crystal Ice, I couldn't find one but I think this can be a nice replacement for one of the 3 females in the Sanctuary.

Actually, the sad thing is that Cepheus and, according to what he wrote in the discussion thread, a (larger?) part of the other insiders agreed with us that the Spring Spirit would be better left out - and still UbiHole didn't listen.

If all they use the insider group for is to make some random name changes (and by random I mean some for better, some for worse), the efford seems wasted.

I think Cepheus would prefer the snow/ice maiden be left out actually. Not everyone likes the maiden more, you know. Cepheus is of course welcome to correct me if I'm mistaken; I'm not trying to put words into his mouth.

Heheh, ok then... Since Cepheus, an insider is against letting the Spring Spirit stay, I suppose that I should offer some serious criticism instead of just joking around.

This post is mostly directed to Cepheus, and to all other users who go beyond of viewing the units as just pretty pictures of different creatures.

First of all, I'm sure you know but for the sake of making my point, let me go over the four decisive factors that compose a unit:

Firstly is the apperance, and by that mean both the concept art, official artwork of the creature and its in-game model. This is, for the most of the users, the factor that is receiving all the criticism due to some vague similarities with other units.

Secondly is the 'life' of the unit. By that I mean the animation and sound effects that accompany each unit in the game. Not I and neither does anyone else in this forum, save for the insiders perhaps, know the unit's idle animations, attack animations, movement animations, death animations, defense animations, and many others and all the sound effects that accompany them.

Ofcourse, I do not need to explain how important is this factor to the variety between the units, right?

Thirdly is the gameplay of the unit. From its racial skills to its stats and the tactics one would use with it in combat. To me at least, this is the most essential part of the unit. I would much rather have a line-up of seven similar units that play differently than seven different units that play similarly. Well, best of all, it's different units that play differently. But what I wanna say is that even similar units will feel very different if they play out differently.

Lastly and just as important, is the lore of it. Everything from its name to the background story as well as every other little bit of information that can come along with it. I see people jump the gun and just dub it a water elemental. I know though that even their names have changed by now (as Elvin or Cepheus said, I don't remember). So again, we know nothing about what this unit is.

So out of the four factors, we only know of one. Low resolution scans of a unit that is still probably work in progress. Even in the Christmas Tree leak, there were notable differences on the artwork, and there we could only see their faces.

So my conclusion is this: We cannot pass judgment on the unit just yet. We can't rule it out, it could turn out to be awesome and we wouldn't ever know.

So, you Cepheus, as an insider can tell us. Is this the final artwork for the spring spirit? Have you seen the in-game model? Its animation and sounds? Have you play-tested it? Do you know its new name and the story behind it? Is it anything like the Blazing Glory and/or the Snow Maiden?

If you know the answer to this and still wish it to be changed, I rest my case.

And anyway, passing criticism is easy, but can anyone of you come up with an alternative? And none of this D&D Dragon Turtles, Lobsters and Toads and other French cuisine dishes!

If you are to offer an alternative do so with regard to the game's lore and especially the faction's lore and playstyle, which you do not know yet! Try and respect the cultural background that the designers tried to draw inspirations from, at least.

Lastly, if Cepheus answers my questions in a way that convinces me to agree that the unit is redudant. Then I still have one last word to its defense: I would rather have the Snow Maiden moved as a neutral affiliated with the snow terrain of the game; than terminating the Spring Spirit. I like both the same so far, but I feel the Snow Maiden doesn't belong in a jungle.

The snow maiden is a spirit tied to the frozen aspect of the water. We have seen the ingame model and I really liked it despite being bummed by the artwork. As for the rest we'll have to wait.

I´d for one would rather have a coherent faction including a lot of different water spirits then a mashup of loosely connected water creatures. It´s clear the the nagas japanese influence is the root of this spirit-theme and i´m sure that the lore and history of the nagas will make it all fit like a glove. Anyways it´s far to soon to be raging like this, we havn´t even seen the officially released artwork yet (not to  mention the in game models and their appearance and abilities).

The faction is Naga, not "aquatic creatures in a town".

"aquatic creatures in a town" is a lot better then "water girl, ice girl and aquatic creatures in a town". There are so much cooler creatures they could have added instead.

No I'm not.
Personally I have no problem whatsoever with a faction that is "just made up of random creatures". You say that the Spring Spirit and the Ice Maiden is fine because they seems to fit with the general theme of the rest of the faction, Well guess what, Any new unit added in their places could also fit the the theme and lore of the faction. You just need the right creatures. The thing is YOU might like this "spiritual theme" I however don't(not that I can go any further with that... ).

What I'm trying to say is they can easily replace these units with something that is equally fitting, they might not be spirits but instead they could be proud and honorable beings within this "Japanese-themed" faction.

Edit: and yeah as I have said countless times, I will have to see the ingame models and animations to really know if I can hate them :/

Sigh-sigh...

Although I do tend to avoid replying to you, NightTerror, I just want to clarify something: I called the lobster and toad French cuisine dishes, not you. Well, that is unless you associate yourself with those creatures so much but I wouldn't know that.

And the delicate art of writing is not any easier than that of drawing. If we ever want the series to be as well written as they used to be, we should be expecting a serious effort from the writers. Certainly coming up with something in a moment to fill in the gap, will not do.

Lastly, I'm not trolling, I'm offering my opinion and criticism and keeping it civil or at least humorously stingy. Can you say the same for yourself? Not my fault you're getting pissed off at whoever disagrees with you, you know.

Without Unicorns and Nightmares in the game I think the water witch can be replaced by the much sweeter Kelpie, which is not only a water-based creature/spirit it also is plant, and so far I didn't see a plant creature inside the game yet.

Yes, a celtic waterhorse that "is said to lure humans, especially children, into the water to drown and eat them" makes perfect sense in a japanese themed, spiritual and serene naga faction.

Hmm that changes everything
But what it you change the horse part and replace it with a HIPPO!!! instead (ofc then it wouldn't be a kelpie but whatever...)

Have we even get confirmation whether this is a racial naga faction or more towards Japanese water thematic faction? Because the way I see them, it's more towards a thematic faction.

It has been at least stated by moderators and insiders that they are indeed naga, it would be rather strange it it was just water creatures with a japanese theme. Especially since two of the creatures are naga (granted one looks more like a medusa). Other creatures descriptions talk about the naga faction, it´s in the ashan lore, it was planned for tribes of the east and they have a role in the storyline that takes place in H6 as guardians of the avatar of death mother namtaru.
