Objects with transparency for WoG 3.58f+Era
Now we can make objects for maps with REAL transparency, but only for Era platform.
Require WoG 3.58f + Era1.6 + alpha.dll plugin.
For use objects with transparency in your maps, make this object with transparency in PNG graphic format and place it in folder "Heroes3\replace" ("Heroes3" - is name of your game-folder), then make DEF file for this object. Frames in this DEF must have same name, as PNG. For example, if your DEF have frame with name "MYOBJECT.pcx", your PNG must have name ""MYOBJECT.pcx.png" (yes, double extension). Like this:

Only for objects in map, not for creatures.
About cyan. For all DEFs you can use any background colours. For DEFs in previous my post I use black background.

They look great, but just a remind: Berserker told that those defs will cause memory leaks.

Yes, it is problem if you restart one map many times, for testing or Save-Load "cheating". For normal game it is not problem.

Blasphemy! You will burn in dark depths of Microsoft customer support!
Still, it's nice to know that someone made such graphics so VCMI now has something to support

The only problem with those objects is that they look awful in editor and wonderful in game. But how the map looks in editor is very important for the mapmaker, however. Proportions, sizes, colors, everything is screwed if you place one of those.
(I will use them still)

Not worked with HD-patch. Alpha.dll is only for 800x600.

UPDATE.
A little changes by totkotoriy. Now supported HD-mod and supported monsters in battle! But DEFs with non-cyan background unsupported
Download from http://www.multiupload.com/HER15NNUV4
alphaSE.dll copy to "EraPlugins" folder
libpng3.dll and zlib1.dll copy to main folder of you WoG-Era.
How to create objects with transparency from Dis2. For T2_2112.
Spell's graphic from Dis2 have black background. In Paint.NET (I hate Photoshop ) with plugins for work with transparency I just translate black color intensity (black is full transparent, white is opaque) to alpha-channel.
10 april: link updated.

itsjustme, i am working on a transparent ocean. currently, i am making the graphics without using the alpha.dll(just graphics overlaid atop the ocean).
1. is the alpha.dll part of the cause for the memory leak issue, or is it only the transparent frames causing it? is there a way to circumvent the issue(get rid of the threat of memory leaks entirely)?
2. the alpha.dll works by replacing frames in a def, from a folder under "mods"; can this same .dll(or a variant, new .dll) work to replace ONE frame with MULTIPLE frames, if the transparent frames will still cause memory leaks?
this(and a great deal more) is what is possible right now, with the ocean:

anyone here who can contact itsjustme, and let him know i'm trying to reach him? i know he's on another forum somewhere, who have the same members here.
