A faraway land (not on the map!) {Variant: the whole land is destroyed somehow}
OR
A now-sunken big island/landmass somewhere on the map where now is sea {Varaint: the southwestern islands were once a continent. IOt was destroyed and the elves fled. Later, the remaining islands were repopulated}

Some still-existent place on the map
