Poll Question: A mental exercise
If they were to make an identical (in terms of gameplay) 2D version of the game in parallel with the 3D version and the two versions were compatible with one another in multiplayer (which is doable), would you consider buying the 2D version?
I would buy both, because I would be able to play it on my laptop as well, plus I would be able to play it in multiplayer on both my computer and my laptop when friends came by my place.
What about you?

Could it be that I'm the only person on earth who would buy a 2D version of the game?

Why buy a 2d version of a game?Sure H2 had no mp but you can play h2,h3.
Instead of going back to 2d,why not optimize better for everyone's likes.
If you cant play it with Ultrahigh,play it with ultralow,it would still better than 2d imo.

Because I actually like 2D, because I would not need a fancy computer to play it, because I would be able to play it in multiplayer with one having the 3D version. I mostly care about multiplayer. For me that's what Heroes of Might and Magic is about.

The idea is not to need a graphics accelerator card at all to play it. That's optimizing it for everyone.

It would be better for you.

My option: 2D
Why? I sort of an old school person who likes 2D graphic more then 3D. It has the magic.
The 3D is nice, but has tensions towards unnecessary light efects.
2D is more perceivable.

I'd buy one and download the other.
Oh who am I kidding I'd just download them both.

I'd look at the system requirements...
Then go with the 3D version anyway, as the requirements would be so low any remotely modern computer could run the game.

Well maybe if they made it very cheap..... but atm I don't have a laptop, and i have a desktop that can play basically anything, so i probably wuldnt buy a 2d version..
Also, all i care about is mp, infact I will probably nvr play campaign (nvr played it in the past) I nvr saw any cinematics past the intro. But the graphics are look nice, and 2d just wuldnt be very appealing. I mean, yea ppl with crappy comps culd buy it, but I dont think they'd put the energy into it.

I should have used "play" instead of "buy"... Unfortunately I can't modify the original post.

My laptop can't even handle Heroes 5 properly. With all the details set to minimum it barely runs. And I suspect there still are many people around the world with less "remotely modern" computers.

You can't carry the desktop around, unlike a laptop, that's why I'd mostly play it on my laptop if it worked.

If the 3D graphics and the modding difficulty were like H5,I would surely buy 2d.However the Water effects in H6,the creatures,the HD map and other facilities make me buy 3D.

A 2D Heroes VI? That would be a laugh. No way would I buy it... If I'm nostalgic about the so called good old days, I'm better off playing H3.

I guess I'm an old-fashioned guy, for whom the gameplay is much more important than the graphics. And it's not (just) nostalgia. I really like 2D, strange as it may seem.
My question is, why Heroes 3 and not Heroes 2, or Heroes 1? Because in Heroes 3 the gameplay has changed. By this logic, why not play the 2D version of Heroes 6 instead of Heroes 3, since the gameplay would change?

No one said it would. It's just that 3D wouldn't bring anything to the gameplay either.

To be honest, to me it comes down to 2 factors:
* Visuals
* Optimization
I would get the version that has the best looks.(yeah I'm a shallow snow.) But only if it is also optimized properly, so that is may run smoothly.
And I'm sure H6 will turn out to be smooth-running and I already know it is good looking, so I really doubt that a 2D game would be better.
(however visual-wise, H3 is vastly superior to H5...)

I'd get the version that looks better.
I ain't gonna buy some 2D game just to "support 2D" or something, same with 3D.
I also find separating graphics from gameplay kinda silly, it's all part of the experience.
