Arachnoids still exist though, in the form of Necropolis' Fate Whatever.
And Centaurs, harpies and shark men are definitely beastmen.
But yeah, other than that...

One of the most fun encounters I've seen in DnD with a Dragon was with a Saphire Dragon.
He was teleporting around the chamber, and could cast timestop twice and wall of stone several times.
Plenty of other abilities but those three were more then enough.
Timestop, throw down some walls to seperate the player characters and then use teleport to enter and exit the various chmabers and engage the player characters as seperate as she could manage with the wall placement, or at least untill the walls get dispelled or destroyed.
One of my own design (which I still have not used) is a Forest Dragon who breathes a cloud of spores, seeds and raw life energy, coating his opponents in living growths.
Then as a 1-2 punch, throws out a wind of decay with a blast from his wings and causes the growth to decay and poison/digest the victims.
It is one of the less then a hundred dragons in my setting. (not 100 different species, less then one hundred dragons on the entire planet period!, so when my players meet a dragon, it will be a rare occurence and the dragon will be unique.)
So far in 3 years of campaign, the players have met one dragon, which was a black dragon FYI with Dark-elemental magicks and breath to match, and they did not fight her because they knew they couldn't beat her, instead they bargained with her.
I'm not going to say that's how you run a dragon, but at least she left an impression on my players who know to treat her with respect both out of caution and admiration.
It's ok to have a few dragons, but never flood the player with them, every time you have your players meet a dragon it should be two things:
1, extremely dangerous, even the rare benevolent dragon should be a serious threat if provoked.
2, memorable
As Nightterror said, slapping the same abilities on your various dragons is both boring and stupid.
Qualities a dragon should exhibit typically are a dangerous breath, an affinity or resistance to magic and most dangerous of all: a keen intellect or at least a sense of cunning.
All three those elements are easy to manipulate, the breath can have loads of properties, it's magical abilities or defenses can come in many different veriaties and finally it's intellect can give it the ability to use it's assets creatively.

Ahh you guys are just too much fun.
Personally I don't mind if the dragon has the old boring abilities, just like Mr Dragons says they can be used in such awesome ways that they are enough.
However if they start adding an abundance of dragons like they had in Heroes 5, then they better be more creative about the abilities in my opinion. :/

I believe that squeezing dragons into a 2x2 sq was an 'issue' they addressed properly, also they might add a fear (just an example) aura/ability to the new dragons though i doubt it. Then again im certain they won't have 'plain' dragons.

that's not what you imagine when mentioning a Dragon!!!

Dragons have breath attacks based on their colours. That's how I like it.
Blue dragons breathe lightning, black dragons breathe disintegration, grey dragons breathe pure magic, green dragons breathe poison, orange dragons breathe sleeping gas, red dragons breathe fire, both silver and white dragons breathe freezing vapors for ice damage, but silver dragons reflect spells, and yellow dragons breathe acid.

If you say it like this I would totally disagree with you, most importantly it would be just a ripoff of nethack and not all colours and powers make really sense,I mean blue is a color associated with water,so wouldn't water make more sense?Or why should orange dragons breathe sleeping gas, that doesn't make any sense at all.The same goes for silver,I mean there isn't any reason to associate silver with ice,the same goes for yellow and acid.
And we all should not forget, that if they give the dragons abilities that match their colours,it would mean, that they have to include several dragons.

Because Nethack has the right idea and the system should be unified everywhere.
Ehhhh, whatever. Disintegration breath still is awesome.

Evenoguh dragon age is just another ripoff generally.
,this dragon u see in the picture could be your generic black dragon as in all Heroes games.
It would kinda fit the black dragon. However, unique abilities could make things a bit more diverse.
Replacing fire breath with something different would be better, corruptive energy perhaps?
H5 dragons were problematic because they were 2x2 square size. That was ridiculous for a thing that was meant to be fearsome. Those things in h5 looked like dragon whelps

So typical, so uninspired, so boring...
Dragons with fire breath are just too boring, especially when you also have Fire Elementals around.
So why does the dragon have to have some crazy powers aside from their fire breath?
Having no dragon with a fire breath would be like putting in titans who can't shoot lightning, but rather shoots chainsaws
Original?Yes.
Does it make sense?No
So let us all hope, that there will be chainsawtitans....
