Poll Question: Favourite town?
I don't know, maybe I'm repeating this one, but there are some newbies around here and maybe they would like to share their opinions. I being a newbie am also interested.
P.S. I've divided them how I could, considering that there are only five slots...

It's hard
It's hard to choose. Of course with my nick, I have to choose the stronghold. But I like other towns.
The town I don't really like is dungeon, because I don't like beholders and troglodythes.
But there are four towns which are boring and four which are exciting.
The four boarings are:
castle, inferno, rampart and dungeon.
Because they have a very fast 8th level which often plays first and travels all the battlefield in one tound and is very powerfull. Too boring!
Theinferno is less powerfull than others, so it's not as boring as I said.
And all the others are fun to play, especially the fortress because it's weeker than others, so more difficult.
I talk about H3, not shadow of death which I never played.

Tower, that's why I'm solmyr in MvM. Although my avatar is Necroy, it just looks really cool, and Solmyr was taken long before I got here.

Are u kidding us??
Inferno and Fortress are very strong towns indeed. It al depends on what map u are playing....
Let's play Battle For Honour or any other open map ... and u can have Tower and I'll pick the "weak" Fortress ok...?@

Eehh, it all depends on the map. I never play Tower on small maps. How do you raise 25k gold for upgrading Cloud Temple there? Methinks that a hero's strength isn't in the quantity of his army. A simple powerfull spell can kill lots of creatures. Play Conflux and equip your strongest hero with lots of Power Spell and Knowledge and three units: Magma E, Energy E and Phoenixes. If you have armageddon, you'll clear the map in no time. So I think the worst towns are Stronghold and Fortress, because of the Level 3 MG. Well, needless to say that my fav is Necro. But I also like Dungeon.

thats the point why armageddon is of most maps (not enough if you ask me goddamnit ), where is the fun in such a armageddon "tactic" ?
give my mother who of course never played heroes that spell, some power and fire immune creatures, tell her what a hero and a monster is , and watch her kick ass, woooow....

Heheee, that's THE fun in HOMM3. Getting armageddon and using it. I like mass destruction spells, and I am only sorry that Death Ripple is so weak....

Ok Hexa
Fortress and Inferno are maybe more peficient on small map than other towns. But you can't say that inferno and fortress creatures are not weakest than others. I'm sorry, but except chaos hydra and mighty gorgons there are no really strong creatures in the fortress. The gnoolls are not bad, but I don't find that they make the power of fortress.
And tell me which creature is very strong in the inferno? Maybe devils but every l7 creature is strong.
And a question for everybody:
Why do you always prefere the town that you find the better?
Personnaly I find the castel is very strong, and I don't really like playing with it, too easy! (maybe not with every kind of map of course).
And for me death ripple is strong enough, when you have it against you, you understand why.

For starters devils have no retaliation, Pit Lords can potentially raise a horde of free demons...ceribri are another great non-retaliation unit that will do a lot for early in the game ... castle gate can be great to with multiple Inferno's but no TP. And don't forget those damn efreet with there speed, and fire shield (fire immunity).
As for Fortress .. well I don't know where to start with u .. I'll let some other player explain that one to u ok?@

Unlike what most people think Fortress plays FAST. You can easily build the Wyvern nest as soon as day 2 (if you're lucky to have Lizard's Den). 2 Wyverns aided by First Aid tent can really win many battles. Week 2 you should have got either the upgraded Wyverns or Dragon Flies. A lot of the times you can clear out everything with just DF and WM.
Split the DFs as necessary to absorb retaliation, surround enemies, flank shooters, cause Weakness, etc. They're the handymen of Fortress!
And let's not forget about the good ol' Lizard Warriors. Have you not noticed what a contender they're after getting some stat AND growth bonus in SoD? They're better shooters than Orc Chieftains and even the two Dungeon shooters due to their increased growth and stats.

In numbers Lizardmen are threat. Gnoll Marauders are quite good level 1 creatures if you include their weekly growth. One of the reasons why the Fortress troops are so hard to attrition down is the Chaos Hydras, another is, of course, Beastmaster's and creatures high defense skill. It is hard to kill those Mighty Gorgons with your units without risking to give multiple targets to Chaos Hydras. And as players rather attack Gorgons with low level troops instead of high, the Hydras will do damage.
Mass Bless is devastating spell for Fortress as there are many creatures with wide damage range (especially Chaos Hydras). Mass Shield, Mass Weakness and Mass Stoneskin makes it harder for enemy to attrition your troops down.
Expert Teleport will come handy, especially when attacking town. Chaos Hydras and Mighty Gorgons are the prime choice for teleporting. If there are some enemy troops grouped together, a group which Chaos Hydras can't reach, it usually is a good move to teleport them into middle of enemy troops but if normal haste is enough for that purpose cast that instead. Mass Haste and Mass Prayer are amazing spells for Fortress, albeit both are rather hard to get, but should you have one of them, you should also cast it. Like Stronghold, Fortress units don't have much speed difference between their units so opponent rarely get to move his or her units between your troops. Sometimes it is better to cast Mass Haste (or Mass Prayer) on the turn of Wywern Monarchs instead of Dragon Flies though. Tactics advantage will ensure that your units will reach the opponent when hasted. Clone, if you can get it, can be a terror for your opponent. Other useful spells are Earthquake and Anti-Magic. Expert Counterstrike, when in middle of battle, will be nasty and especially Hydras and Basilisks will benefit of it.

Thanks your tactics make Fortress a much better contender against the bigger towns...never thought of first aid + wyverns or teleport + hydras!

Well, I like the part with mass Bless. Only thing with this spell is that it doesn't work on undead. Why not? I dunno. Maybe someone does. Don't tell me it's a holy spell, 'cause Prayer works on undead. Hmmm.....

to Perji: I believe bless is considered a "mind spell" and undead are immune to them.
Another advantage of Fortress, Stronghold, and to a somewhat lesser extent Necro, is that they are cheaper to build and buy on average, so you can have more of them early. On many TOH maps, with 1st and 2nd creature dwellings already built, you can get wyverns and rocs the first day, behomeths the 2nd, if you really want to. Speed is everything in this game, not so much creature speed as speed of "getting things done". When you put ALL the parts together, the towns are really pretty well balanced, but they take different strategies to use well.
Oh, my vote for favourite town? Random!
Just like to see what I can do with the cards I am dealt.
