Calling for more Open Map play in TOH

I realize RedSoxFan already started a thread similar to this one, but I would like this to get at least some attention; and being a thread rather than a reply on another thread seemed better suited to get that attention.

----------------------------------------------------------

Many closed TOH maps have several artifacts in each player's area.

If you don't get many artifacts that boost your hero's stats, you are pretty much done for in that game, because if you did not get good artys, it is likely that your opponent did.

That is one of the reasons I dislike closed maps opposed to open ones, as the closed ones seem to determine the winner often on how good artifacts are, whereas in open maps, artifacts are not so important, and how u move on the map and how you distribute your creatures (also known as skill) is often more important.

Also, Should we determine how good one is at Heroes by how well they have memorized a map????
I think not.

Therefore,
I would really like to see more TOH games played on Open Maps.

I think, some of the higher ranked players in TOH would not fair quite so well if they started playing open maps... As I think that they have been lulled to sleep by the closed maps, where they dont have to incorporate as much strategy into their games... just in the final battles.

I am not saying that those high-rated players are not good, I am just saying that I think that some of the better players are using the same old familiar closed maps as a crutch against actually losing, because they arent really that good on other maps, just on a particular one or two.

I also, am not saying that there arent any Open TOH maps, because there are... But not many, and the few that exist arent being played very much, compared to the many, many TOH closed maps that do get played constantly.

So I challenge you, fellow TOH players, to play Open Maps.. to throw your crutches down and show your real skill!

Seems an irrelevant post to me....

People play what they enjoy, and THATS the way ToH should be. Play what you enjoy the most. All types of maps require a skill of their own, to say that only open maps require skill is ludicrous and ignorant. Play some of the top ToH players on open or closed, they will still kick your arse.

Cheers

Well...

In my opinion, closed open, blind, random, indifferent, it all really comes down to battle tactics.

I have seen many times on a closed map : less creatures, less stats, more skill... and yes beaten again...

in the same regard open maps test a players management of resources, creatures, offense and defense..

Where as a closed map tests more the ability to kill a seemingly insurmontable stack of creatures to actually arrive at your opponent.  And what is almost certainly the most tactical is "the Unknown opponent".

I mean, granted, you know your opponent will have X lv7 and X lv6 (Usually) however you don't get the opportunity to view his spell list, kill a few extra of those level 3 shooters, or really anything of this nature.

I enjoy both open and closed maps.. but really I feel that this game should be and will be decided by tactics in combat...

And in fact most of my favorite games I think, have been situations in which a player has an obvious if not supreme advantage, but still trying a way to figure out how to out maneuver him or generally F**K his position up.

And of course in saying that it certainly does not matter if it is week 1 day 5 or week 4 day 6

Which is why I will play anything/anytime (when both parties are blind) otherwise we will both need to know the map

Open maps reuire that you defend your turf and expand at the same time.

On a closed map you get some guardian angels to watch your back.

Kinda weak to have to have something to protect you.

Learn to protect yourself and expand at the same time.

In the popular closed maps expansion is also pre-set.

You take your preset towns. You go gather your arties.

Then meet and whoever got the best crap and has the best battles skills wins it.

Everyone knows how to play closed maps but only Flamingo, Frank, Antal and a few others can play open maps well.

I personally do not value a win where I get a 5 dragon utopia while Angels guard my land for me.

Sound like a wimpy game to me.

Open, closed, they're all good.  I prefer a good open map because it doens't all come down to that decicive battle where I click right NEXT to the unit instead of on it.  Also, open maps usually go faster because you can breakout and hit each other immediatly, unless they become wars of attrition... I never have time for them.

BAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

I like closed maps... I like to develope my hero...

I like semi open maps... caue I love to F*CK up opponents pln with a well placed scout and some refugees...

I LOVE blind maps, this is were I feel the true comes into play... When neither opponent knows the map, it is open, or semi closed, and as you play you need to develope strategy, ect..

And of course hand in hand with blind maps come randoms, which of course are 70% luck of area, and 30% skill with what you can do with area..  This formula of course only relates to week 1, in subsequent weeks, ( disregarding 200%) it is all pure skill to decide wether you can kill a horde of orge magi, with minimal loss... or wether the benefit is worth the loss..

Random maps are when the most spell casting ( out of combat) comes into your strategy,

and all the aspects of this game become real

mocara: closed maps require the same skill, you just so full of yourself and your friends "tactics"

both is fun, i like playing different maps dun matter if open or closed, scout battles are fun, beating the map and guards on closed ones is fun, so whats the point in this discussion.
what is not fun: old unbalanced maps like 7 lakes and beltway, that some folks just like coz they know every hex of it and fear that they could suck on new maps they didnt play 100 times...
