Thanks Dad
Long ago I dare to call this poetry, ahhh...youthful fancy Now I see it as a "thank You" and I'm glad he was able to read it one Father's day.
“Dad”
I remember my father’s laughter,
as a snowball whizzed by us.
His youthful face sleeping on the couch,
lit only by the light of the TV screen.
Suits and ties dashing out the door,
to work to earn a living.
Standing over a stove in the kitchen,
making some edible concoction in a pan.
Concern is his eyes for my safety,
at some situation I relayed to him.
Hands at work with a ring,
tuning some old television.
Sitting behind the wheel,
of a red speeding racecar.
Projected sadness and anger,
when I was caught in a lie.
Sadness in his voice,
at the lack of forgiveness from others.
Steadfastness on issues of importance,
covering a gamut of causes.
I see the tenderness,
behind the wall.
The love,
inside the stronghold.
The good,
behind the wrong.
The child,
protecting the Man.
A friend,
beside by Father.
I know how much he loves me,
by is nature.
His challenges to me,
in his debate.
Care for me,
with effort.
A father like no other,
and no other would I have.

I gave my dad a painting for Father's Day. Appreciative vibes were detected in the air.

Thanks guys. I should add a little background for GP.
This <ahem> poem, came at the end of a very long road. We battled tooth and nail as I "grew-up", "fairly" evenly divided when it came to "right and wrong" (more true as I aged) and all the while, we were both intense persons. The ol' apple and tree thing. Funny how neither of us could see that for sooo long.
Then one day, I saw Dad in a way that changed my entire view of him forever. It is a long story, so I'll just say my combative/defensive-blinders fell off and I fully realized..."Dad is Dad" (silly I know) and he was never remotely...a "take it or leave it" object. He was far more important than I was seeing for most of my life.
My granite-head took things for granted...too much. Anyway, this was my One Big Thank You to my Dad and I am glad I did finally get to it.
@BB Care to share...what sort?
