Poll Question: Our impressions of Heroes 6 from 1 (really bad) to 5 (really fantastic)
This is only for people who have PLAYED the game in some form. (Pre-Beta, Public Beta, etc.)
Simply rate your impression of the game.
The rating system goes something like this:
1. Horrible, awful game - do not buy!
2. Unfortunately they made a lot of mistakes making this one. You probably shouldn't bother with it - it's not really worth it.
3. They made some improvements and some mistakes; you should probably play a demo first, but overall it's not bad.
4. I like it! It's good! You'll probably like it too, be sure to check it out.
5. Definitely buy this game! They did an amazing job!
This is ONLY for people who have played the Pre-Beta, the Public Beta, a demo of the game, or the game itself. I'm covering all the bases because I don't know what the longevity of this thread will be. One day? The summer? I'm just excited people have finally made contact with the game! I hope you're all having a great time with the new Heroes!

So far it is really only decent to me. It lacks the Heroes atmosphere for me. But then it is only pre-beta, so my opinion may very well change over time.

Yes, indeed. Even Heroes V had it somewhat... it sort of feels like a generic strategy RPG at times.

This is a meaningless poll at this stage of the game.
1) Those who don't understand what a beta is will be disappointed
2) Those who are so excited to play the game no matter will think it's amazing
3) Those who know many things have already been improved for the public beta will not be able to give a proper answer, because we still don't know.

i didn't vote but i would say the game is slightly better than decent. one of the factions really plays well. all the creatures complement each other astoundingly. don't know if im allowed to say which one.
but other factions all have a few holes that need plugging. some are overpowered and some have problems in the beginning but pick up later. in a nutshell, they're not really balanced yet.
some of the abilities have no practical use, they're only useful in certain specific situations.
i'd give it a 7/10 so far.

I think, that it is already quite good. Don't get me wrong, it has many faults, and let's face it, it is still only the Beta of the Beta, but it has great potential, and I mean great potential. Despite it's numerous shortcomings, it managed to entertain me for 8+ hours, so I think it deserves to be called good . With a little polishing, and a lot of balancing, it can turn out to be at least as good as H3.
EDIT: Elvin/Ceph, (if you find anything bordering on NDA stuff, please notify me immediately, and I'll delete it. I tried to be generic, I really did, so please don't sue my pants off without giving me a warning first, ok?) *unleashes puppy dog look*

As a sequel I'd give it about 3/10, as a stand-alone game I'd probably give it about 8/10.

Decent.
I like the music so far.
I didnt like h5 at all eventho i tried for a long time to get into it all the way from the beta. And i still find h6 more fun, and it's only pre-beta.
One big problem i have is:
How much are they paying the "interface designer", because i have no education in this area and i can make more interesting boxes to look at.
Im not just speaking about the town windows, but all the little boxes (tips, resource bar, and so on...).
Everything looks like it is designed to look like a web browser. You got your lovely status bar at the top with your 4 resources...
And the heroes at the bottom are just floating there like lovely little tabs.
I don't know.... I just think they have simpliefied the wrong things while just cluttering other things with stuff you can barely understand what it is.
To me this isnt a game interface, it's a lack of a game interface.
It's just interface...

Pointless? How about for pure fun. I think pure fun is an excellent reason. Besides, it is a poll of people's impressions, and that is all. And I'd say the fact that the majority of the votes so far are positive is anything but a bad sign.
I'm looking forward to when the real public beta is out.

That has me hopeful.

It sounds like a lot of people don't like the interface. I think it would be awesome to have all the boxes be designed in detail and be done in a way that reflects the feeling of the rest of the game. They could use it as a way to make the atmosphere more immersive - and plus it would just be nice to look at.
I mean, how much would it cost them in resources to set aside one or two people towards the end to design a really cool interface? It is usually one of the last things they do, right? So hopefully since this is the pre-beta and an older version of the game, by the time the whole game is officially out, it will have been improved. Although I don't see it changing vastly.
On a side note: I hope someday we'll have centaur heroes.
Minotaur heroes were awesome.

It really depends on the game. Some games, like The Old Republic, place a lot of focus on UI, because it's such an important part of how you interact with the world. Knowing where your health bar and special abilities are is of utmost importance, and the UI should reflect that facility. Here is an article detailing the process of creating the Star Wars user interface.
Not an easy process.
Other games, like Super Mario, don't require a whole lot in the way of interface. You have your score, your extra lives, and occasionally (depending on the game) you have special items. That's about it.
For a Heroes game, you need the End Turn, Move, Spells, Hero, Town, Map, Options and Menus, Hero's Mana and Movement, Town Build status, team colors and auras, building descriptions and icons, tooltips...
Really, rather complex. But again, we're all looking at a Pre-Beta version of it. the public beta will likely have a more polished, more user-friendly UI. Because it does take time to develop. Sometimes a lot of time.

Hello,
first of all I would like to state that the rating system is not that ok! 4/5 should not be "check it out", should be something like "great game" and 5/5 should be "wow! I can't wait to burn the midnight oil even on weekdays!"
Secondly in my opinion not only those who have played the closed beta (until now that was the only way) but also the ones that have played a previous heroes game. and I may act bad now ( ) but the ones that played MANY heroes games (or at least heroes 5) and not only the H3 guys that think it was the best-EST games ever!
______________
Anyhow,,, my opinion is that it is --> AWESOME !!!!!!!!

A 4 is not a passing "check it out," it's a much stronger, "be sure to check it out." There's a major difference, trust me.
I'm glad you think the game is awesome. I have my hopes really high as well.
However, I definitely want this to be exclusive to those who have actually played it, because if you haven't played it yet then even though you think it looks awesome you don't know how it's actually all come together. In other words you don't know how the new implementations, such as area of control, reputation, etc., have really turned out.
By the way, quick question to all those who have played the pre-beta: how were the heroes? I'm not asking for details, just opinions. Did you enjoy their portraits, did you find them unique and/or interesting? And so on. Try to say as much as possible without breaking the NDA.

If you exclude the fact that the Sanctuary and Stronghold heroes are human, I'd say most portraits were quite ok (some very nice, some very ugly). Many can be seen in the pdf guide (in the news topic), though we only had 6 portraits (3 male, 3 female) per faction
I'd say overall, the Inferno females portraits were the best looking ones (with Deleb's one being the "worst" imo )

Yeah I've seen all the ones released so far. I'm hoping that that's not the majority of them. Can you say how many there are, or at least hint, give some sort of comparison, or something?

New skill tree and all that aside, I find that all heroes have been stripped of much in-game-mechanic personalities. Can't really go into details but I'm afraid that hero wise, they will be as unique as H4 heroes were, though in a somewhat different way

They're better than those from Heroes V but still too pompous for my taste, not to mention the plagiarism.
Quote: did you find them unique and interesting
Unique - definitely no. Interesting - too early to say.
What else? The "heroic attack" animations aren't nothing special visually, the main thing that distinguishes the heroes on the adventure map is their colour, respectively the colour of their horses, the inventory is a mess, there is a mountain of available abilities to choose from when you level up but most of them lacked full description in this version of the beta and when you have to change the direction of the movement on the map there is one animation that nearly drives me mad (feels like the horse will stumble and fall). The rest could be considered a NDA breach I guess.

The new portraits just scream generic to me.
Not to mention that they're all dressed up in their faction uniforms.
