Which towns have the fastest start?
Hi, i just recently got myself a copy of heroes 5 and 2 expansions and my favorite town is deinfitely fortress. However i've had some problems on a small map where a sylvan guy had significantly more troops than I when we met. So my question is which towns have the fastest start in that they get alot of good creatures early on as possible?
Thanks

I haven't played Heroes V all that much, but atleast Crossbowmen are good for creeping (having Dougal as the hero helps too).
Even though success in first weeks is really important I'd say use which faction you want.
Also I think Sylvan had more troops probably due the cheating AI.

The best start you can hope for does not rely on units but instead spells and warmachines. Take Havez, ballista, tent and a horde of saboteurs. Crazy. Or Sinitar with an army of stalkers only. Etc.

*Shudders* dear lord, have mercy on our souls...
But yes, generally, the Dungeon faction has a reputation for a powerful spellcasting hero who can zerg the starting creatures with just their 1st tier unit's alternate upgrade (as invisible creatures work beautifully against neutrals). Haven, the orcs and Deleb (from Inferno) generally also have a reputation for early creeping since they have powerful war machines.

On dead man's lake I took down lots of spectrals week 2-3 and rushed my opponent mid week 3. Having taken a utopia and armed with some 20 stalkers I proceeded to blast his ballista and then the rest of his troops. It was a risky game of hide and seek but totally worth it
Then there's the time when I took down lots of titans week 2.. But that was under 3.0 where in presence of invisibility, units would keep pressing wait instead of moving randomly in the battlefield. Extra ignite damage and guaranteed fireballing of two titan stacksper round.

Upon playing Heroes V regularly now and then, the fastest starts largely come from the following:
Dungeon, with Yrwanna and Kythra, who can sweep mine guards on the first day with Blood Maidens and Ice Bolt/Minotaurs.
Stronghold, with Haggash, who has a lot of centaurs can easily clean up mine guards first day too. And they are the best early gamers.
Sylvan, with Gilraen, can clean up quite easily on the first week with his fast and improved Blade Dancers. Ylthin with a Unicorn can also do things quite easily on the first week too.
Dougal with his Archers can do well for the Haven, but he needs Footmen and/or Brutes to help out. Vittorio may clean up nicely at a pinch if the guards aren't too strong.
Ebba is great for cleaning up mine guards first week as well for the Fortress (Bears).
Other three I don't play much, and in the case of the Academy, not at all since they are very poor.

This post made me thinking and i realized that im playing it all wrong (units depended&basic spell mageguild lv1). So how fast do you upgrade your mageguild and what do you sacrefice in that build (im focusing 1st on economy asap capital) unit production building or economy.

With dungeon? I initially aim for stalkers and blood furies(easily kill any stack that has 4 speed even if divided in 4 stacks, no need for spells), capitol, hydras, raiders(neither actually needed for earlygame but the more the merrier) and mage guild 2. Reason for that is that with lvl 2 there is a higher chance that you will get a good spell from secrets of destruction. Now if you can also build mage guild 3 so much the better - IF you get fireball you will have the easiest time creeping, esp with ignite. Cheapest yet most damaging spell. There's a big plus, with your pathetic army units tend to be divided in 4 stacks so the first fireball will hit two targets.

Secrets of desctruction cannot give you something you already have and will always pick one from lvl 1-3. So the more you have the better your chances of getting the desired one. Getting stone spikes sucks though

It's not a question of which towns have the fastest start but which heroes and skills have fastest start...
Haven - Dougal (shooters)
Necro - Kasper (healing tent)
Inferno - Deleb (ballista)
Dungeon - Sinitar (empowered spells)
Sylvan - Ossir (shooters)
To name but a few...
Early game, these heroes kick butt!

Telsek and Haggash can be insanely fast Kragh can do some incredible things too, killing a pack of archangels on week 2 feels good ~

I'm surprised that no one mentioned starting with fortress and Ingvar as a hero ; If you start with the defender dwelling and upgrade it turn 1, you'll be able to start with about 90 mountain guards turn 1, which can easily take out most neutrals in the start

Fast creeping with powerful blow, empathy and tactics so that you can surround the centaurs with stacks of single goblins. Not something you can do in every game but if you get those you are fine.

How about Ossir?
His speciality + archers + luck is a great combo. Also having luck at the start can get you Resourcefulness so in theory you can advance faster.

i must ask - how do you use stalkers properly? because i must be missing something... you just take a few stacks of them, turn invis and just cast spells? how do you regain mana and such..

I never cast any spells unless it is a matter of life or death Stalkers must do a good part of the damage so that your hero does not need to cast. And of course you kill slow walkers with fury hit&run so no mana spent there. Vs large units you try to maximize the damage of aoe etc.
