news of the world, murdoch and the ethicalness of journalism
I'm sure pretty much everyone had heard about what has happened, but for those who haven't, I'm going to reitterate.
the news of the world, one of britains oldest papers, owned by Rupert murdoch under his company of News international, has been discovered with bribery for police and phone tapping and tampering with evidence. whilst alot of the phones hacked belong to politians and celebrities, there were a good number of the that belonged to the families of murder and terrorist victims. They had gone into phones, recorded messages and then deleted them, giving the families false hope with the thought that the person could be alive.
Murdoch quickly demolished News of the world as an institution, but has reorganised alot of the staff into other parts of his paper. This was due to the fact that Murdoch was gunning to by BskyB, britains biggest satellite television provider, and so probably didn't want something like that being linked to him. The british parliament has blocked his current take over and has starting an inquiry into the affair, with Murdoch and son, james (who runs news international for his dad) being summoned to the parliamentary chambers for a hearing.
What do people thing of this? Do Murdoch actions seem suspicious or justified? did the journalists who employed those tactics go too far? should some of them face jail-time?

Hey Bixie, I had not read. Seldom read the wall of refuse anymore.
To me, news has not been "news" in the correct sense for a long time.
It used to be "here's what just happened". Now it is entertainment.
When wealthy control-freaks (individuals or groups) own nearly all sources of news and dictate personal bias and interests in an exciting bundle of sensationalism, <imo> real news no longer exists. It becomes a product that promotes all of their other products, even to include their offspring.
If they break the law with their controlling egos? yup...jailtime.
Question is do they own the law too along with your underwear, morning cereal and the vital info you must digest over the cup of java you drink from their brazilan farms?
Ethics? What ethics? Btw, I'm just ranting.

It really doesn't come as a shock, that's the way it is with all of these media companies owned by a select few companies. They unify their narratives and stifle competition and alternative, independent thoughts to begin with.
I say start with investigating News Corp, move on to Disney, Turner and all of the others.
edit:
Fox has been caught Deliberately avoiding the scandal.
Only the Wall Street Journal in the US and Mr Murdoch's British holdings reported the issue in any detail at all. I suppose because the WSJ is considered to be a respectable news source and the British papers and stations are too near where the actual scandal took place to attempt deflecting the story.

My wife and I just saw a Doc on the Mouse-House. We were both dismayed at the power to halt truth. Although one truth was readily and arrogantly flaunted...We're about making money.
Ah...fat wallets & happy share-holders rule the news. I understand now.

Well they appear to have the full support of the news loving public, though it is highly unethical what they did, it doesn't surprise me or is a secret that they do this, the only thing that does surprise me is that they were caught, the only thing this incident might've done is increase sales imo.

Fox now is playing Newscorp as the victim of the hacking scandal like Citibank and the Pentagon have been.
Only problem here is that Those two entities were hackees, News of the World is the Hacker.
I mean geez, might as well dismiss all the stupid stuff done by Anonymous and Lulzsec while you're at it.

Can't we make a list of people that should be lynched, and lynch them?
Lets start by roughly everyone who did not bring down the foot at Newscorp, including CEOs.

Interesting.
Yes, the Whistleblower, Sean Hoare was murdered recently. That is definitely suspicious, but utterly stupid to do as well.
Rupert Murdoch claimed no responsibility in person to the British Parliament after brushing them off several times. (He was summoned over a week but initially said he couldn't see them this month) I personally do not necessarily believe he is responsible, it could in fact have been somebody underneath responsible for the whole thing. Time will tell.
Mr Murdoch was pied in the face also.
LulzSec hacked the Sun newspaper, dumped some information about some people on top and claims to have many interesting internal emails. Two wrongs don't make a right and any evidence acquired this way may not be admissible in court. But it may give concrete evidence of a link at the top, or not. (Also the Sun website also was hacked to report that Rupert Murdoch was dead)

Silly Shyranis police claim there is nothing suspicious about the deed and how he was murdered is 'classified' (they claim that the terms of his death are inconclusive ROFL!). I know I shouldn't laugh but they're really in your face with conspiracy to be honest, they don't even take measures to remain inconspicuous and that's what i find funny.

Hm... Apparently this is not the first time News Corp has been caught Hacking to gets its way.
News America Marketing In-Store Services Inc allegedly repeatedly hacked the servers of the small business (Floor Graphics) that was at the time dominating the floor ad business and stole their customers' information (then stole said customers). When Floor Graphic sued, they were swallowed up whole (bought out).
And this scandal is apparently hurting News Corp a lot, with James Murdoch's defense basically falling apart as he handled some of the settlements. Rupert basically has to choose whether to throw his son or his company under the bus.
Edit: July 29th.
Apparently News of the World has been confirmed by Scotland Yard to have hacked the phone of yet another murder victim's family...
Messy... =(
Also James Murdoch is asked to come back to Parlaiment after his testimony was contradicted by other people working for News of the World. He wasn't under oath, but lying to Parlaiment is still considered a crime. Would be a shame if he really did turn out to be a huge sleazeball.

Wow, now News Corp is being looked at for using unmanned Drone aircraft illegally to photograph disaster areas in the US.
Quote: To get government permission to use a drone (for non-hobby purposes), a private entity has to jump through hoops including getting an airworthiness certificate — meaning the thing is safe to fly — and an experimental certificate, approving the planned use of the unmanned system (uses are currently limited to research and development, marketing surveys, or crew training).
Interesting.
