Nah, you can always say its due to heroes military prowess and such. But how to explain magic sword attack of a might hero? Only plausible explanation is that this sword symbolizes some sort of diversion attack in which the hero somehow manages to get in, attack and return!

Seriously, a magical sword falling from the sky is still more realistic than a trained hero shooting an arrow above/through walls and hitting his target.

I like how people discuss meaningless elements of the game as if those were of such importance. Hero charge was removed by the devs because it was making to many glitches if I recall, so they decided to make this "symbolic" type of attack animation that enables your imagination to interpret it any way you like...

Heroes game always had those "agreed upon" elements like how the whole stack of creatures of the same type is represented by a single unit with a number next to it...

I still remember fondly my Knights from Heroes 5 galloping through the city walls in order to strike the enemy units standing behind them. Those were the days.

I don't think realism has to work against gameplay in this case. So what if might heroes can't attack behind walls whereas magic heroes can, that just goes to separate the two. Give Might heroes better proves with the catapult to compensate if there is a balance issue. Or add some new game elements, like your hero can actually gain a ranged attack, like a real ranged attack, not just a magical animated sword, which will let him attack at a distance. Only fantasy sets the limit, and with a bit of creativity, one can turn a challenge into something positive.
