Recommended campaign order
Hello everybody,
I remember reading yesterday about a recommended order in which to play the five campaigns (Necropolis being the last if I am not mistaken).
I am unable to find it anymore. Can someone help (with the direct link or just the correct order)?
Thanks,
skortzy

Well the thing is that the campaigns intersect sometimes, so you are forced to play the missions out of chronological order. But to get the basic premise of what is going on:
- Stronghold 1, then
- Sanctuary 1, then
- Haven 1, then
- Inferno 1, then
- Necropolis 1

I was gonna play stronghold before Sanctuary! Still waiting for my second copy. So it's best to play the first mission in that order and then finish them one by one in same order

Kind of strange they would make the campaign structure so open-ended. I started with Necro first, so things will be interesting for me.

And I started Inferno first. I don't like this kinda independant campaign structure. Wish it was in order

Not really liking the intersecting thing.
Anyway, not sure this is the right thread to ask, I've been out of the loop for some time, but what happened to that "prologue" with Sveltana and the Dragon Eel? I just finished the tutorial and was expecting that level to come but the Necropolis campaign starts with Anastasya alread...

I just got mine & the updates are installing now.
I always play the campaigns before I play a tourney game.
I always like to play the stories the way it is supposed to be. I will play it that way
Good luck yall.

Well that mission is a Single Scenario only for those who have the Deluxe/Collector's Edition. The Map is called "Heart of Nightmares".

I just did that map (Heart of Nightmares).
Ages ago, before Sanctuary was revealed, Heart of Nightmare was the map that was previewed all the time.
And the enemies in it were of the Haven faction. I remember that I wrote in the H6 discussion thread that I thought that the Haven enemies on that map were placeholders for Naga troops. ^^
Turns out that I was right - there is no sign of Haven in that map now and instead there are Naga everywhere. ^^
Anyway, this is the order I have been doing the campaign in, should probably have started with Stronghold though.
Haven 1 with a Magic Blood Anton
Stronghold 1 with a Might Tear Sandor
Sanctuary 1 with a Magic Tear Irina
will probably do sanctuary/stronghold 2 before doing the first Inferno mission

I'm sorry if this question had been asked already, but why does the order matter? Do you get different cutscenes/heroes if you play the campaigns in another order than the recommended one?

because the story gets a little messy when you do not do them in their chronological order
for instance a lot of people started with Necropolis after the tutorial, and if you start with Necropolis first you get a very wide and deep plot hole

Stuck on 2nd map of Stronghold campaign due to really annoying bug. (game locks after animation if player already selected tears in 1st map)
Guess ill have to suck it up and skip stronghold, and hope i don't miss too much lore.

You don't have to play the entire Stronghold campaign to get the main lore. Just the first mission. When I say "Stronghold 1" I mean "Stronghold mission 1", not "the Stronghold one".

Sorry for posting this here, but I have too few forum traffic to open up a thread of my own ... ;-)
Talking of Stronghold's first mission - I really need a nudge in the right direction from you experienced guys. Without getting too spoiler-ish ... I started that mission two times, and I don't feel like I'm really getting anywhere. Troop conservation seems to be the key in the beginning. First time, I took the first Haven town you come across - the one with the relatively weak defence - and then it was securing the area, freeing the goblins south of town and building up some more troops. Or so I thought. The AI kept sending enemy heroes that could be taken on one-on-one but still whittled down my hard-earned troops. I felt compelled to go for the second Haven town east of the first - I lost too many units and wasn't strong enough to hold the second area and go for the quests at the same time.
I reloaded the map, and this time I ignored the first Haven town and went straight south to the "neutral" area. I managed to grab some additional troops, but not without losses, and I was disappointed to see that there is no town in this area that you can conquer and build up. So I was forced back to the method of my previous attempt, with a delay in game time on top of it ...
For the moment, I quit the Stronghold campaign, but I would really like to go back to it as it was said it is the best choice chronologically. Btw, I plan to skill Sandor towards Blood, of course with a focus on Might abilities. Before that, I played the first three Necro missions and didn't encounter any major problems. All missions were played on normal difficulty.
So I would really appreciate some advice on Stronghold 1. Thanks alot in advance!

If I understood right, you say that it's normal to play the first missions from every campaign.
And after that, what's the correct order to play?
Thanks.

Great post Ceph, thanks! Although I think it's foolish of them to make it like this. I liked how the old campaigns focused on one faction at a time, so you could get familiar with their units, style and so on. Here you have to choose between that or the story (which has been promoted as one of the good things about the game!).
