Demons history in the world of Heroes
Where can I learn more about the Demons/Inferno in Heroes? I want to learn more about them before i start playing the Inferno campaign. This is my favorite faction and I'd like to know it better, like origin, social structure (leaders, hierarchy). Also is there somewhere a time-line of the most important events in the history of Ashan, and lastly any books on Ashan?

You'll find the general timeline and lore of Ashan in the Myth Of Creation which, while never being confirmed as official, matches every single detail in game lore they've released since start of Heroes 5, and hence there is no longer much need to doubt its relevance for the game.
Furthermore, the Factions Overview will give you an insight in the individual factions as they are perceived in the context of Heroes 6 by the developers.

The most important part is that the Heroes III-IV "demons" (the Kreegans and their allies) have nothing to do with the Heroes V-VI ones. The Kreegans in particular have nothing to do with "demons" either but that's another story.

I have a question about the demon lore:
We know that Urgash created six demon overlords, mirroring his sister with her elemental dragons.
*Ur-Vormoch - Overlord of Madness
*Ur-Krag - Overlord of Destruction
*Ur-Hekal - Overlord of Hate
*Ur-Traggal - Overlord of Pain
*Ur-Mespharoth - Overlord of Proliferation
Now the Overlord of Hate is sometimes called Ur-Haazheel and sometimes Ur-Hekal (like the capital of Sheogh you visted at the end of Heroes V), likewise Ur-Mespharoth is replaced with Ur-Aazheel sometimes.
Which names are right and what's the name of the Overlord of Voracity?

According to the in-game wiki, it's :
- Ur-Jubaal : Overlord of Madness
- Ur-Traggal : Overlord of Pain
- Ur-Hekal : Overlord of Hate
- Ur-Krag : Overlord of Destruction
- Ur-Vomoch : Overlord of Voracity
- Ur-Mespharoth : Overlord of Proliferation

This system of leadership sounds pretty ineffective. 6 leaders? How could this possibly work? They need one strong leader to lead them all.

That's usually the reason why the bad guys always lose. Too many cooks in the kitchen.
Why do you think the Huns or the Mongols were so successful in their conquests ? It was because they were united behind their leader (Attila or Gengis Khan). And why do you think their civilization declined after Attila or Gengis Khan's death ?

Thanks, I assumed that the ingame bestiary would contain the same information as the various websites. Ur-Hekal seems to be the most important one if the named their capital after him.

hmmm, wait. So Khabeleth is above those 6 Overlords? :-o
If Overlords equal Dragons of Elementals, maybe the demons can defeat Elrath and his siblings too?

Kha-Beleth overthrown the six Demon Overlords and took the power for himself. Something like a revolution. This happens after the events of H6 but before the events of H5.
In H6 the Six Demon Overlords rule Sheogh, in H5 Kha-Beleth as the Demon Sovereign rules Sheogh.
I think the Dragon Gods are very much stronger than the Demon Overlords. Because the Dragon Gods are the children of Asha and Urgash but the demons and their Overlords are just the product of Urgash's hate and jealousy for Asha's creations, if I get it right.

This sounds reasonable. Also this change of powers in Sheogh seems the right thing to do.
Quote: 969 YSD: 6th Eclipse - Queen Isabel's War
An eclipse not forecast on any calendar grips the Blind Brothers in a panic. The Demons emerge in force and march towards Haven’s capital.
This war will be known as Queen Isabel's War and is the topic of Heroes V’s campaign.
Since I haven't played Heroes V, what happened there? How did this war end? Any chance for my favorite creatures to win? After so many centuries of battles Destiny should smile upon them at last
I take it 969 YSD is the final date known so far?

The Demons lost that war too. Can't catch a break.
The final known date is 989 YSD, Dark Messiah, which might result in the Demons' permanent release from Sheogh. That's a matter for Heroes VII or some other game to deal with, though.

That is arguable, because though the main force of the Demons was pushed back, the Dark Messiah was born. This was their real objective, wasn't it?
Plus, the Griffin Empire died in that war and that is an accomplishment.
The real success of that war for the Demons, comes from wether the Dark Messiah fulfills his destiny or not in the Dark Messiah of Might and Magic game.
I think, but I'm not quite sure, that the canon ending of the game is that the Dark Messiah chooses to unleash the Demons, right? And that's why in Heroes Kingdoms there is still an Inferno faction?

There is nothing explicit that proves this, moreover Urgash is supposedly much more powerful than any of the Elemental Dragons so why some of his supreme commanders can't be as powerful as, say, Elrath & Co?
